Does anyone remember BUGGLES / "VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR"? So now we could sing "STREAMING SO SPOILED THE ACTUAL CHARTS". Just came to my head / mind. Isn´t that funny! Like funny hah hah?!

I need other people opinions?, Do you think that finding any songs which enter the "iTunes Live Chart" and "Spotify Chart" is a good way of finding new music? Because this is how I find new music, but I want another persons opinion on this???? Whenever I go onto the site whichever tells new entries in the full top 200, not just the top 100; every one of the tracks I find from the iTunes and Spotify Charts enters the full top 200????

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

quite often I do that too yeah ;) for example sexual got in the Spotify top 50 like a month before it reached the top 40 but that's not always how I find new music I look on other Spotify playlists like hot hits and new music friday

An interesting fact - Sean Paul's ninth week at the summit marks the longest time at Number 1 for a Jamaican artist, overtaking Omi.

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

cheerleader was NOT 8 weeks- it was like 4 /5 if I remember rightly. not 8 though

avatar

Rhys Daley

1

Never said it was 8. I know it was 4, but the fact is Rockabye has overtaken it. Omi was the last title holder, therefore I mentioned him.

oh but the way u said the 9th week made sean paul the leader made me think u did

Can we please get Kiesza's "Dearly Beloved" into the top 40? It's such a great song!

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Good luck with that, Kiesza is a two-hit wonder at best who faded away in 2014

SH

Scott Harris

Is there an artist that you like who presumably faded but wish made a comeback?

I Am A Stegosaurus

John Newman. All the way.

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

john newman hasn't faded. just bcos ole failed (it wasn't a good song) doesn't mean he'll never have a hit again cos he will. eg give me ur love with sigala was only from june- not long enough ago to say hes faded

SH

Scott Harris

Me too, his music is amazing!

WHy are there so many new entries in the bottom half of the chart, I'm assuming due to many Christmas songs and older songs dropping off and so glad add Sheeran has released 2 new songs with both selling more than 35000 on iTunes in their first day of sales, "shape of You" is guaranteed number 1 next week, however I Feel asif the sales for "Castle on the Hill" may decrease due to "Shape of You" being much stronger. Aand I'm hearing about an Irish singles chart, so glad!! They should also do a Welsh Singles Chart but I'm almost a tiny bit impressed with this weeks chart.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

'Almost impressed'... XD. Also, I hope Castle On The Hill outperforms Shape of You as it's so much better

G

Gail

1

Do you mean that you wish "Castle on the Hill" outperforms "Shape of You"? And have you noticed they're currently number 1 & 2 in most countries including the U.S and Spotify and iTunes and worldwide, however; I don't think this will last except in the U.K. :( :( :( Unfortunately I think "Shape of You" will outperform Castle on the Hill due to much more stronger sales and streams. :(

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

erm....

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

do u know that also the performance of shape of you and castle on the hill on Spotify led to a large increase in streams of his other songs eg photograph and A-team. so don't be surprised if some of his old songs re-enter next week too

"Rockabye" by Clean Bandit (feat Anne-Marie & Sean Paul) remains at number 1 on the Official UK Singles Top 100 Charts for a ninth straight week. The song has now joined an elite club of chart toppers- it's only the 18th song in history to spend nine or more weeks at number 1 on the Official UK Singles charts. It joins the likes of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" (2006) and Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Two Tribes" (1984), which also spent nine weeks at number 1.
"Human" by the Rag'N'Bone Man rises to number 2 this week .
"September Song" by English singer John Paul Cooper (better known as JP Cooper) rises from number 45 to 16. I like this song. This guy has been blessed with a great voice, I expect him to become an international superstar this year- Sky's the limit (no Biggie). "September Song" was written by JP Cooper and Alex Smith.
"Bad and Boujee" by Migos debuts on the charts at number 67.
"How Far I'll Go" by Auli'i Cravalho (from the animated movie "Moana") debuts on the charts at number 94.
Ed Sheeran released two new songs this morning (at 5 am UTC to be exact)- "Shape of You" and "Castle On The Hill". I expect both of them to debut in the Top 10 next week.

Listen up, people. Wanna hear something that sounds a bit like 80s Michael Jackson with a bit of modern Justin Timberlake? A cool pop song that makes you feel upbeat! Here you go!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3ZL20Zj1Pk

The song is from 2015 but it's got new exposure on Spotify! We need more songs like this in the chart. :)

Very happy with this weeks chart! Still loving Rockabye and happy it is number 1 although put money on Ed Sheeran occupying 2 of the top 3 next week for sure i think. i`m happy with all the top 40 re entries. Glad CSTF is so high and im also happy to see One Dance and LMLY there, As for the top 10, happy with all the re entries, glad NEIKED is back with Sexual. Shame The Chainsmokers came so close with Closer but couldn't quite re enter the top 10.
And i`m really happy September song is in the top 20 finally, i think its a brilliant true song and deserves to be so high> Glad stations like radio 1 are playing it lots giving it the airplay it deserves.
Overall, a great week imo!
Thanks for reading

One thing to note is that the Singles chart doesn't account for radio directly, but rather indirectly if people stream or buy it after listening to it there. I'd guess there's probably significant disparity between what radio plays and what gets streamed in the U.K. which is what normally happens in the U.S.

R

riley

0

this is true, good point. So would you say Radio airplay is one of the reasons with the hot 100 is so standstill with major movement in a single week very rarely occurring?

well as youd expect no-one streams any xmas songs in January. if u think bout it, last week was 5 days after xmas and they all still climbed. so they were long overdue to go out of the top 100 and give non holidat songs a chance

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Just occurred to me but how come they credit Kendrick Lamar in Sia's The Greatest but discredit Sean Paul in Cheap Thrills? Inconsistent much?

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

bcos both the sean paul one and original are streamed and downloaded. they always put it as the original if two versions of a song are popular, eg the hills and desire when they had popular remixes it still said the original as people downloaded / streamed them too

Who wants to discuss Ed Sheeran's two new songs?

avatar

over here on bb, looks like his 2 new singles (don't know if both will make it on the hot 100 chart the same week) will be making some kind of splash over here ;). he won't be on this monday's hot 100, but he should be on the following week's chart. piran and myself will keep everyone here updated ;)

They're both absolutely horrible. The fact that he's lauded as some kind of musical genius speaks volumes about the idiocy of today's music-buying society.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Step back... while Shape of You is pretty bad,Castle on The Hill is good. Also, if you don't like Ed Sheeran or Olly Murs, who DO you like? Probably some metal band from the 70s

avatar

TheInkAndThePaper

1

LOL, acting as if Olly Murs and Ed Sheeran are the only 2 musicians on the planet (God forbid!) >.<

Well, seeing as you're asking: The , Bonobo, Massive Attack, Rufus Wainwright, Everything Everything, The Internet, Childish Gambino, Washed Out, Royskopp, Gorillaz, Blur, Dutch Uncles, The 1975, Jeff Buckley, Elliot Smith, Adele, Nirvana, Metallica, The Neighbourhood, Air, Daft Punk, Empire Of The Sun, Queen, Warpaint, Sly & The Family Stone, Sampha, Interpol, James Blake, XTC...etc etc

I know i act as if i'm averse to ALL music, but the charts these days are like 97% s**t.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

2

Never heard of half those artists but oh well, valid answer, it's virtually impossible to deny how bad the charts are nowadays

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

only heard of like 20% of those I guess theyre all unpopular rock bands

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

I like shape of you but castle on the hill sounds like rock in the chorus with the stuff in the background so I don't like it that much

avatar

TheInkAndThePaper

1

1) Not all of them are rock bands. Mostly pop, indie, electronica.
2) There's absolutely nothing wrong with rock bands.
3) There's also nothing wrong with not being mainstream (even though about 90% of these bands/artists have considerable fanbases that border on being mainstream. The only exceptions being Dutch Uncles, Bonobo and Sampha).

If you look further than the top 40, you TOO could expand your musical tastes :D

You only had to watch the Xmas Top Of The Pops to see what a state the charts are in these days. If i remember correctly "Blossoms" were the only rock band on there. All the other acts appeared to be a guy behind a mixing desk with a female singer in front of him. Ferne Cotton said a good year for "Grime". What an appropriate name for that music

Right, I'm actually doing ups & downs this week:

Ups:
Well, I don't mind seeing Human at number 2. If tropical-over-f**kin-used-house wasn't a thing it would be number 1 though.
September Song enters. Pretty good song, doesn't get enough radio play. I've not heard any of the other new entries in the top 40 this week before though
Let Me Love You back in, I guess that's a good thing.
This Girl back in the top 100, wait, it dropped out?
Shed a Light at 48. Come on, we need REAL EDM back in the top 40 rather than this tropical remixy house
Mr Brightside at 49. The only question is: how?

Downs:
Rockabye at... you know the rest, how dare that song get more weeks at number 1 than Uptown Funk.
Sexual back in the top 10. Rubbish.
I'm After the Afterparty is back in the top 40, that pillock needs to drop out the charts and never enter again.
Crank it and Juju On The Beat in the top 100 again. Yay....... no.

Well at least this week wasn't static, but that's easy for me to say

avatar

Piran

3

I agree with you mostly, except your thoughts about 'Rockabye'.
'Mr Brightside' jumped thanks to an iTunes discount, which explains why it's back in the Top 40 of the sales chart. :)

My ups and downs:

Ups:
Human at number 2
September Song entering
This Girl back in
Mr Brightside at 49
Sexual in the top 10
Crank It in the top 100

Neutral:
After The Afterparty in the top 40
Let Me Love You back in the top 40

Downs:
Shed A Light at 48
Rockabye at number 1...still, although it only had 48,000 sales (and streams) this week (it had 78,000 sales (and streams) the previous weeK) so it might be falling next week.
Juju On The Beat back in the top 100. I just realised that it's a novelty song

I mostly agree with you then

avatar

Techfan

0

Juju has been viral in the U.S. since there's a dance related to it. Calling it novelty is being kind to it. Had Broccoli become a hit in the U.K., a novelty song label would have been accurate in my view.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

I always think of Crank It as the British version of Juju On The Beat... IDK why

avatar

Calum Pk7

human? now that really is rubbish. never have a hit again

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

my ups and downs.
ups:
-rockabye beat human to no.1- don't mind rockabye hate human
-bad things re-entered at 52- higher than even I expected despite its top40 position on Spotify- top 40 place hopefully within 2 weeks :)
-sexual re-entered top 10
-call on me, September song and you don't know me finally reached top 40- they were the other 3 I mentioned last week except bad things as hopeful climbers :)
-the Christmas songs went out finally
-starving climbed back to top 20
-fifth harmony and the weeknd re-entered
- shed a light climbed to 48- love cheat codes' voice :)
downs:
-human went ahead of I would like- I hoped it would be no.1 but instead it went down
-mr Brightside 49- how people like rock from 12 years ago ill never know.
- not a great deal more- this week was good :)
completely opposite to u synthesiza ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

oh yeah another down is one dance and cant stop the feeling climbing to much as both are so old and how theyre still in the top 40 is a mystery. ok, its bcos they still are streamed and downloaded (only the former In the case of one dance), but I dunno why

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Ay, Mr Brightside is a classic. It was groundbreaking in the day (underperformed in the charts though) and still appreciated today

avatar

Dan Love

Cool week.

Positions 59-100 are almost all re-entries probably to do with all the Christmas songs dropping out and partly due to the new chart rule that changes the streaming:sale to 150:1.

I'm glad that George Michael hasn't fallen too far down the chart.

I noticed that 'Bad And Boujee' by Migos has entered the chart at 67. That is something to get worried about because it is a terrible song. I have no idea how it is currently number 2 in the US.

Mr Brightside has jumped up to 49! :)

Scars To Your Beautiful, Now And Later, Shed A Light, No Lie and Oops have all reached new peaks outside the top 40 this week. Water Under The Bridge by Adele has also got to number 40.

I was surprised to see You Don't Know Me so high up the chart, but I like it. :)

Call On Me is at 26 :( It is one of the most generic, boring, meaningless, pointless songs I've ever heard.

Love My Life is at a higher position than One Dance.

September Song has gone from 45 - 16. It isn't my favourite song but it is extremely catchy.

Glad to see Starboy spending a 15th week in the top 10. I'm also happy that 24K Magic is climbing for a 3rd consecutive week.

I'm really happy that I Would Like is at 3. I don't know how it got into the top 5, but I felt like the OCC weren't serious that I Would Like was Zara Larsson's highest-peaking single. It's better that Human is at number 2.

Rockabye is spending its 9th week at number 1. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The only new entries are at 67 and 94.

avatar

Naos

Good point about the new 150:1 streaming:sale taking hold this week. We'll see how it changes the Singles chart better next week since this week was preceded by a holiday one, which probably resulted in some of the unusual and unexpected behavior in comparison to the week before.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey, what's up mates! ok, now it's time for 'battle of the boybands' :D. both the wanted and 1D are the most recent uk boybands that have achieved great u.s. success. so, let's take a look @ both groups' biggest u.s. hits and each singles' chart success on the hot 100 chart :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

3

the wanted 'glad you came':

enters hot 100 chart on 1/28/2012 @ #85-64-40-30-25-23-5-4-4-3 *final peak*. single will remain in the top 10 for about 3 mos. and will be #6 on the hot 100 year-end list. here's a look @ the top 10 for the week 'glad you came' hit it's final peak @ #3.

top 10-3/31/2012:
1. fun./we are young (6 wks @ #1)
2. kelly clarkson/stronger
3. the wanted/glad you came
4. adele/set fire to the rain
5. goyte/somebody that i used to know (will climb to #1 and be #1 song of the year)
6. nicki minaj/starships
7. david guetta & nicki minaj/turn me on
8. drake/take care
9. flo rida/wild ones
10. katy perry/part of me

well, not surprising that the single debuts low on the chart for a debut act *it's usually like that since u.s. radio wouldn't know who they were, don't have a huge fan following over here, etc.* and we have 2 quick climbs into the top 40...so, the amt. of radio spins is rapidly picking up and looks like sales and downloads are also quickly increasing.

so, it takes a good 3 weekly jumps to make it right into the top 5! fantastic response, esp. by u.s. radio. (usually big leaps are generated by either high downloads and high radio airplay). to make it in the top 5 and to keep remaining in the top 5 another good 3 wks also shows the weekly response of radio and sales keep remaining the same.

the song will remain @ the #3 spot for an additional week then fall to #4 (jb's boyfriend debuts @ #2, i def. recall that!). and then float within the top 10 for an additional 6 wks. so, awesome debut performance for the wanted! they weren't able to repeat their success *their next single 'chasing the sun' peaked @ #50 over here*. but that's still a fantastic response for a debut international act that u.s. radio had never heard of :)

avatar

Piran

1

This was an awesome Top 10 for the Hot 100! I would probably give it a 73/100 (which would be a huge improvement from this week's 44/100!) ;) LOL
What would be your favourite songs from the Top 10 in that week then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

**** right it was a fun year to be following the hot 100! i still remember carly rae jepsen locking the #1 spot all those weeks with 'call me maybe'. and i do recall jb debuting @ #2 and being mildly impressed :D i was more impressed with 'as long as you love me' and that rodney jerkins produced the track (mj's producer) i bought his believe album and loved it!

well, from this week's top 10 my faves would be: fun's 'we are young', david guetta's 'turn me on', and goyte's 'somebody that i used to know.' not an adele fan during this time, i'm still heartbroken over whitney houston's recent passing during this time. ok mate, i'll have the 1D throwback up in a sec ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I think 'Call Me Maybe' was #1 on the Hot 100 for nine weeks if I remember correctly. I really wanted that to be the #1 song of the year, but 'Somebody That I Used To Know' is still decent.
My favourite songs here would probably be: 'Set Fire To The Rain', 'Stronger' & 'Wild Ones'. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

ok, without further ado :D here's a look back @ 1D's u.s. debut single 'what makes you beautiful'.

enters on 3/3/2012 @ #28-50-44-33-19-11-9-4 *final peak* will remain @ #4 the following week and float up and down within the lower part of the top 10 (6-10) for an additional 10 wks and remains a top 10 hit for about 3 mos. and will rank @ #10 on the hot 100 year-end list. & here's a look back @ the current top 10 when 'what makes you beautiful' hit it's final peak @ #4.

top 10-4/21/2012
1. fun./we are young *did i already mention this was a big hit?* ;)
2. goyte/somebody that i used to know (will eclipse fun the next week @ #1)
3. the wanted/glad you came
4. 1D/what makes you beautiful
5. jb/boyfriend
6. nicki minaj/starships
7. flo rida & sia/wild ones
8. kelly clarkson/stronger
9. katy perry/part of me
10. carly rae jepsen/call me maybe *will eclipse goyte @ #1 in about 2 mos.*

ok...:) so, a debut right @ #28 is practically unheard of for an unknown international act (much like the spice girls' debut single 'wannabe' in 1997). so, u.s radio is highly interested, but seems to not be feeling the song the next week with a sharp drop out of the top 40 down to #50.

obviously based on listeners' responses ;) the single slowly moves outside the top 40 (radio airplay is slowly picking the song back up) and then 2 quick jumps right into the top 20. so, radio airplay and sales quickly pick up and then 2 more jumps to go into the top 10. and a final peak within the top 5 is also a great achievement, not just on the amt. of radio airplay and sales you need to be that high on the chart, but with the top 2 singles that were 2 of the biggest hits during that time being your competition.

looking back on both groups' debut singles, i'm very confident, that both for the wanted and 1D, if fun. and goyte didn't lock the top 2 spots for all those wks, both groups would've had a chance for the #1 spot. the amazing thing about both groups' singles peaking within the top 4 of the chart, we already had other bigger established acts that couldn't peak that high on the chart for that year.

1D will go on to achieve continued success over here in the states *more on their future bb chart feats later on ;), tons of unique and history-making feats that remain un-matched*...so, congrats again to both the wanted and 1D for notching debut top 5 singles here in the u.s. on both groups' 1st go-round!

avatar

Piran

1

Well I bet it was awesome for you to see two British male groups in the Hot 100's Top 5 in the same week! :)
JB's 'Boyfriend' debuted at #2 if I remember correctly, so he's had a total of four Top 2 debuts in the US. :D
I never actually knew that 1D & The Wanted were in the Top 5 in the same week though. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

hahaha! well, i wasn't into my 'british men' thing back then...i honestly didn't know too much about 1D and the wanted until later in the summer. whitney houston had just passed away and you know how much i love her! so, i didn't pay too much att. to the current music scene right away...i first knew who 1D was right after their debut album entered@ #1 and bb noting they were the first uk group to debut @ #1 with their first album. and then of course seeing how good looking harry was ;) well, let's just say, i sure didn't mind 1D doing great on the charts afterwards ;)

and same here, i had no idea they both were right next to each other in the top 10...cuz after the wanted's debut single, i didn't see them much on the chart. and i can't recall seeing their other albums doing well on the 200 chart...i totally see why there was drama between the 2 groups :D but also, it is what it is...that's how i see it. but both the wanted and 1D can always make a comeback.

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, that would explain the rivalry between the two groups! Well both aren't making music right now, but I'm sure both of them will reunite, even if it takes a few years.
Oh what are your favourite Ed Sheeran singles by the way? Mine are: 'Thinking Out Loud', 'The A Team' & if you count features, 'Everything Has Changed'. I might even do a list or poll about him soon! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

it sure was ;). well, you gotta remember that even after 'somebody that i used to know' fell out of the #1 spot, it still remained in the top 10 for many weeks. i think it was even in the top 3 for a number of wks too...hard to believe all that was 5 yrs ago!

after 1D's debut single, i was really rooting for 'one thing' to be a top 10 hit over here, but it peaked @ #39 for the chart on 7/7/2012. and guess who's in the top 3 that week? that's right, carly rae jepsen and goyte ;). maroon 5's 'payphone' was @ #2 that week.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it only feels like all of that happened last year! :) LOL
Well next time we chat, we'll talk about their chart run in the UK. If you thought their Hot 100 performance was impressive, wait until you see their Official Chart stats. :D
Anyway, I have to go now Sunshine Gal! I'll hopefully see you tomorrow though. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah...but i mean, it's nobody's fault and there's nothing wrong for any artist to go to great heights. i know the wanted felt that our 1D mates were stealing 'their thunder' (as we say here in the states), but i highly disagree about that. it's also about public appeal and the teen girls liked 1D more. but anyway, both had great runs for their 1st singles over here.

yeah, i'll take a look @ our mate ed's past chart runs over here...he had a debut album over here before that green 'x' album right? 'runaway' was always my fave track off that 'x' album.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok mate, i'll catch your ar$e later :P and yeah, fill me in on both the wanted and 1D's past uk chart runs...talk to you later :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

call me maybe is exactly what i've been preaching on bb all these years: u.s. radio almost always love upbeat pop songs. i thought it was pretty cool it went to #1 all those wks, i almost always root for debut acts that can do well over here. but isn't she also a one hit wonder over here? if she has any other to 10 hits, i can't recall them.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh mate, just wanted to let you know the riaa listed some more new certifications. looks like they're a few wks. behind. not too many interesting new certifications, but our mate zayn's 'pillowtalk' received a 3x plat. certification ;) but, nothing new on the 1D single...but, looks like the riaa will be having more new certifications each week :).

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, the debut album was called '+', which peaked at #5 on the BB200 in 2011. However, 'x' debuted at #1 on the 07/12/2014 dated chart & stayed there for one week. :)
Did you prefer '+' or 'x' then?

Well I would say she's a two-hit wonder in the US; 'Good Time' with Owl City also made the Top 10. 'I Really Like You' only peaked at #39 on the Hot 100, although a lot of people absolutely love her 'Emotion' album! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks Sunshine Gal, but I already checked them all out! LOL
Another two certifications I think you liked seeing were that 'Cold Water' is 2x platinum & 'Love Yourself' is 6x platinum. A good month for JB then, right? ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

Interestingly, GYC became a greater hit than WMYB and arguably had a bigger cultural impact. Also, The Wanted will be known in the U.S. as a one-hit wonder, while 1D as the most accomplished boy band there other than Maroon 5 in terms both of singles and albums.

good memory!

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

I used to quite like both those songs actually ;) good throwback

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i don't think i ever listened to his first album...but i did buy the deluxe of the 'x' album..it was pretty good.

avatar

Piran

1

I would give '+' a 7/10 & 'x' an 8/10. I wonder if '÷' can get an even higher score! ;)
If you never heard the former of these, I would definitely recommend it.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i honestly don't recall her 2nd hit...but that's great for her! i believe she's the only international female artist to have a diamond single.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

! well good for jb...i sure wish the riaa would hurry up and re-certify the 1D single, even if it doesn't make diamond...i just wanna see how high it can reach :).

avatar

Piran

1

You don't remember 'Good Time'? That would probably be in my Top 10 favourite songs of the entire decade! ;) LOL
Also, I never noticed that history-making feat of hers, but I'm very pleased to hear about it.

avatar

Piran

1

I think it will definitely pass 'Chasing Cars's record for the highest certified single by a British male group (which is 5x platinum I believe). ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, i don't consider maroon 5 a 'boyband' per se'...but yes, 1D certainly notched a bunch of feats and top 10 hits over here. but to be fair to the wanted, lots of uk acts (and i'm sure other international acts) have had struggles to maintain any success over here. but remember, i was trying to be civil with these throwbacks and not start any beefs here :D the wanted did pretty good for a 1st time try in my opinion.

so, what's your honest opinion about this: ok, both 1D and the wanted would be in the top 5 when goyte and fun. had their big hits. do you think 1D and the wanted would've had a chance @ the #1 spot if both big hits weren't @ the top 2 spots?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, this wasn't all from memory :D the hot 100 chart (and the 200 chart) have past chart archives even way back to 1958 ;). i've done beatles throwbacks on a uk singles article some time back....any chart runs i post up are all from the hot 100 archives. i give my honest opinions @ the bottom on how i think the single/album did, but other than that, i can't take full credit ;). piran and i have gone thru the hot 100 archives many times, lots of fun!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah, i just wanted to focus on both groups' debut singles and nothing more :D. but i plan to do some more 1D throwbacks...their song 'story of my life' spent almost 6 solid months in the top 20 over here ;). they were 1 week shy of 6 straight mos. nothing history making, but still an impressive feat!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

he has album called 'divide'?? no way :D or is that his new album?

avatar

Piran

0

That's the name of his upcoming album. I think his fourth one will be called '-'! ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

do u know piran in person?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i honestly don't :D how long was it in the top 10 over here? and to my knowledge she'd be the only non-u.s. female artist with a diamond single. the 1st international artist to have a diamond single, as far as i know, would be elton john's 'candle in the wind.'

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

see...i wish i knew exactly when the riaa will re-certify it :D oh, i'm sure the riaa will be taking a look @ george michael's catalog in the coming mos. i'm confident that 'faith' may go past the diamond mark to 11-12x plat. we'll have to keep an eye on that one ;)

to my knowledge, phil collins' 'no jacket required' is the highest certified studio album for a uk male artist (i believe one of elton john's greatest hits compilations is higher) @ 12x plat. i'm very confident, not sure how soon LOL!, that george may be able to match the 12x plat. peak and maybe even top it ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I need to check that, but I know 'Good Time' debuted at #18 & would peak at #8 on the Hot 100. :)
Oh by the way, did you remember that it's Elvis' birthday today? He would've been 82!

avatar

Piran

1

Don't the artists (or their record labels) have to apply for a recertification though? Also, I expect there is a very long list of requests the RIAA have to work through! :P LOL
Elton John's 'Greatest Hits' collection is 17x platinum in the US. Also, I believe '21' by Adele is the highest certified album in the US by a British female artist (14x platinum).

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hahah! no, just on billboard ;). i live in the u.s. and he's in england :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh yeah ;). and this aug. will be the 40th anniversary of when he passed...i was 2 when he died, but all thruout the late 70s and early 80s there would always be his past concerts on tv. i was too young to know who he was, but my whole family would sit and watch the program. i still remember seeing the 'aloha from hawaii' concert, i believe it was the 1st worldwide satellite telecasted concert ever. this would've been just a few yrs before he passed away.

avatar

Piran

1

Has he ever had any major appearances on the Hot 100 after his death? I know MJ re-appeared in the Top 10 with 'Love Never Felt So Good'. :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah adele has the highest certified album for any solo uk act. well, with elton john, that greatest hits might also have been a double album. maybe even a triple or more album. the beatles' white album i believe had 4 records in it, and it's 19x plat. but for a studio album, i don't think any male uk act has matched or topped phil collin's album.

yeah i'm sure the label has to apply for the re-certification and i bet the riaa has a very long list to go thru ;) so, we'll see...anything can happen. i'm just surprised that zayn's single got re-certified quicker than 1D's.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

not too sure if elvis re-entered the hot 100 after his death, maybe the latter part of 1977 when he passed...cuz for the longest time, pre-released songs were ineligible to be on the hot 100. only until after whitney passed away, i think is when the rule was changed. but elvis is almost always on the xmas singles chart each year and i've seen a number of his compilations on the 200 chart over the years ;). even his #1's collection that debuted @ #1 in 2002 *or around the time of the 25th anniversary of his death*.

avatar

Piran

1

Probably because Zayn is currently an active artist right now & 1D are not. Oh sorry if I've already asked, but did you see you would post Ed Sheeran throwbacks on the next Official Charts article? ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, yeah, but there's older singles and albums that deserve to be re-certified first, in my opinion. but yeah, i'll see if can do some ed throwbacks for the next uk article...i also got lots of blackhawks this week, so sometimes i may not be online @ night too much. we'll see.

avatar

Piran

1

I remember you saying that MJ couldn't get too many re-entries on the Hot 100 after he did, but I think 27 of his songs returned to the Top 100 over here. I think 'I Will Always Love You' went back to #3 after Whitney's death, right? When MJ died, 'Man In The Mirror' reached #2 in the UK.

avatar

Piran

1

Well Mariah's 'We Belong Together' was also recently recertified as 3x platinum, which Techfan & I think is incredibly low. I think the Ed Sheeran throwbacks will be the most exciting ones you've done yet in my opinion! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah it's the same stupid rule that the hot 100 always had and pre-released songs would then go on the hot 100 recurrents chart. and yes, the week after whitney passed, on 2/25/2012 it re-entered @ #7 and then the next week it zoomed to #3. see what a big hit it originally was? ;). after she died, i would hear it on the radio a lot...took you right back to 1992 :). and in 1992-93, every time you turned on the radio, 'i will always love youuu..' :D i'm not joking!

and everyone noted how 'different' she sounded, like she was an even better singer than before...and believe me, that's like saying mj is a better dancer in his 40's than in his 20s...like, is it possible? :D i even thought she sounded so much better than she always did and i always considered her one of the best singers i ever heard.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

gee...i take it, you can't wait for the next uk article? ;) well...i don't know about the sales of 'we belong together', but she already has 2 diamond albums and a handful of multi-plat. albums and singles...3x plat. sounds about right to me.

oh and speaking of whitney ;). the week after she peaks @ #3 she then falls to #30 (i don't see anything wrong with that, the song will always be a history making #1 smash), guess who zoomed to the top 5? the wanted sailed from #23-5! :) this was on 3/10/2012.

avatar

Piran

1

Haha, that's right! Especially when Ed is so likely to make history. :)
Well didn't 'We Belong Together' spend 14 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100? I know this was well before the streaming era started, but I thought it would've sold more than 3 mill. copies.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh sorry mate to keep you waiting :D. well, with 'we belong together', remember radio airplay is a huge a chart factor, always has been and i'm sure always will be. a good portion of those 14 wks could also be huge radio airplay (i remember it a lot on the radio, my fave track off that album was 'don't forget about us')

avatar

Piran

1

Haha! I was wondering where you were. :P LOL
Yeah, I remember that 'We Belong Together' got many weeks atop the Airplay Charts. Do you know what the biggest selling song of all-time is in the US then? Over here, I believe it's 'Candle In The Wind 1997/Something About The Way You Look Tonight', which sold something like nearly 5 mill. pure sales in my country.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

and i just finished my post on the 1983 article. that took a bit of time too. well, i don't know the biggest selling single of all time here, but i do know that jb's 'baby' is 12x plat. and he has the highest certified single of all time here. i'm thinking maybe 'white xmas' by irving berlin? i really don't know...esp. when many huge certified singles by the riaa factor in youtube and streaming.

avatar

Piran

1

Didn't 'Baby's certifications mostly come from YouTube. I think (but don't know for definite) that it was the first song to reach a billion online views. :)
I wanted to ask you because 'The Twist' by Chubby Checker is #1 on Billboard's All-Time Hot 100. Do you know that song?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i'm sure it did :D but that's the highest certified single of all time here. and yes, i know 'the twist' single :D. if you go on youtube, look up 'the fat boys' doing the twist single ;). it was a moderate hit in the mid-80s, and chubby checker did a guest appearance on it.

avatar

Piran

1

I'll check out how 'The Twist' performed in the UK. Over here, Mariah's 'One Sweet Day' wasn't even a Top 5 hit, despite it spending 16 consecutive weeks atop the Hot 100.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

what!!?? :D no way!! where did it peak over there?

avatar

Techfan

1

Maroon 5 technically do play their instruments unlike most boy bands which only sing and dance.

During that particular week when SIUTK was #2, WAY #1, GYC #3 and WMYB #4, yes they would have been #1 and #2. ;)

So ready for the Giants at Packers game later today?

avatar

Piran

1

'One Sweet Day' only reached #6. Surprisingly, Mariah has only had two #1 singles over here; 'Without You' & 'Against All Odds'. The latter was a collaboration with Westlife! :)
Including those #1, she does have 24 Top 10 hits in the UK though. Oh The Fat Boys' version of 'The Twist' peaked at #2 in my country, but I don't think the Chubby Checker version charted.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

darn right i'm ready for the giants game 2day ;). and i don't know if you caught the bulls game last night, we were down like 20 pts. all during the game and came back and won in overtime. :) the crowd was really into it, just like back in the 90s when the 'dream team' would be struggling. i got the warriors on 2nite and all this week i'll be getting the blackhawks games ;)

did you see that big hit in the winnepeg vs. buffalo game? a sabre roughly checked a winnipeg and all heck broke loose! another winnepeg guy socked that one guy really hard and even @ the end of the game both teams are brawling. that winnepeg guy that got knocked down had to be taken out of the game.

and yes, i still think both the wanted & 1D had shots @ going to #1, but being stuck behind 2 very big hits, that's the only thing that blocked them.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

what!!?? no fricken way....only 2 #1's over there? oh and i still gotta check out that westlife collab...so, 'without you' was her 1st #1 over there? were her early albums on the uk charts? because i don't recall 'without you' as an official single...which album was that on again?

and the fat boys one reached #2 over there? i used to see that vid on mtv a lot back in the 80s :D

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I thought that would surprise you. Also, Tay-Tay has never had a UK #1 single, which has also always shocked me! :/
Mariah's earlier albums generally performed well over here & her first #1 would be 'Music Box'. 'Without You' was from that album & apparently peaked at #3 in the US (but I don't know if it was released as 'Without You'/'Never Forget You' in your country).
The Fat Boys one did indeed reach #2 over here. Regarding the Chubby Checker version, despite it being the #1 song of all-time in the US, it didn't spend very long at #1 on the Hot 100 though if I remember correctly.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

really..? over here, i think mariah got the #1 album of the year in 1991....that's the first mariah album i ever bought, right when her debut single 'vision of love' was a big hit. but that's crazy she's only had 2 #1's over there. oh and 'without you' was from music box...holy ****! by that time, she had something like 7-8 #1's and top 10 hits :D. but yeah i remember the music box album on the charts...esp. 'dreamlover' when it was #1 on the hot 100. it was her first diamond album and then her daydream album would also go diamond.

yeah, i'm not surprised 'the twist' didn't lock the #1 spot for many wks, bb also factors in the amt. of time in the top 10, top 20, overall chart, etc. i'm not exactly sure why that song is the #1 all time song, but it must've spent many weeks and even mos. on the chart.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok mate, just wanted to say goodbye here on disqus, be sure to get your ar$e to bed @ a reasonable time if you have school 2mor ;) ok mate, good night :P

avatar

Piran

1

Well for our next chat, I'll let you know how her albums performed on the End Of Year charts. :)Didn't Mariah get something like 18 Hot 100 #1s in total? :D
Anyway, I saw that you were signing off now. Have a good night then & I'll see you tomorrow! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh sorry mate, i didn't see this post, been responding to joseph :D ok, last response to him ;). and yes, mariah has 18 #1's over here. and they were all practically back-to-back and with just about every album too. ok, good night talk to you 2mor :)

avatar

Techfan

1

I'm sorry your team lost! ;) Also, that I missed the Bulls' game against the Raptors. The Warriors should be able to handle the Kings 2nite.

As I have mentioned before, I rarely follow the NHL any more. Such brawls are probably the main reason why.

Yeah, those songs got caught behind two songs which will probably in the Top 5 and 20 in the decade-end chart. Sometimes, it's a matter a timing what peaks songs get.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

oh ok I was just wondering ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

what sport ru talking about? is it like baseball or nfl or something? I'm not good with American sports ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, the chicago bulls are a basketball team, my fave. the golden state warriors are also a basketball team (my 2nd fave); the chicago blackhawks are a hockey team (my fave) and the winnepeg jets and buffalo sabres are also hockey teams. there was a mean hit on a rookie of the winnipeg team i was talking about.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah, yeah, yeah! :D i know! that's alright...i still got the bulls and blackhawks and of course golden state. don't know if you caught the warriors games last night against sacramento...the warriors were down by like 16 pts almost the entire first half...but came back and won ;)

well, it's been awhile since a hockey player had to be taken out of the game due to hard cross-check, but that agressor got his ;). he got a bunch of stitches under his eye from getting punched by that injured guy's teammate. other than that, hockey is still an exciting sport to watch :)

so, where do you think ed will be in the hot 100 next week?

avatar

Techfan

0

I missed watching the game, but thanks for the recap! I hope the Packers can derail the Cowboys aspirations next week. The Texans shouldn't pose a challenge to the Pat, unfortunately. Both the Falcons-Seahawks and Chiefs-Steelers matchups are intriguing, but I figure the Seahawks will win and I would like the Steelers to win.

The NHL has bad rap. Dentists probably get a lot of patients from them. But it's not nearly as bad as the NFL and boxing, to cite a couple of examples. Brain injuries are pretty bad in those two.

I'm hoping CotH can make the Top 10 and SoY can take away #1 from Bad & Boujee. ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

still don't get u never mind ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

it's alright mate...i like hockey, basketball and u.s. football. and then baseball when it starts in late spring. piran has been explaining uk football to me and my uk team would be chelsea (we get some of the english premier league games in my part of the u.s.) which team is your fave team?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

QPR but they're pretty bad they're in the 2nd division. not the premier league the championship. ;( but my fave prem team is probably Liverpool bcos my mum supports them

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

really! that's piran's fave team :D this sat. we're getting the chelsea game right before the u.s. football playoffs ;). i've been trying to get more into uk football and learning the rules and such. but right now, basketball and hockey is going on over here @ the moment. and the teams i previously talked about are all my fave sports teams and any buzz going on right now in each sport.

have you ever watched basketball or u.s. hockey?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

no. people have been trying to explain basketball to me recently though. it didn't really work ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hahaha...what!!?? you know who the chicago bulls are though, right? well, they're my #1 basketball team. i also root for the golden state warriors (oakland, california). their head coach used to play for the bulls about 20 yrs ago and he's a college basketball legend in my hometown of tucson, az *where i live*.

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

don't really know who they are, no. soz :/

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

really!! you've never heard of michael jordan? he was known for flying in the air to dunk a basketball...well, anyway, that's my basketball team. and that's what myself and whoever i wrote all that to :D were talking about.

are you gonna catch the chelsea game this sat.? it's on right before the u.s. football games, so i'll try and catch it ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yes ive heard of Michael Jordan but not the team. I know he has his own trainers too

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

basically, there's these things called Sky and BT Sport which have all the sport on including football, and u have to pay for them. I don't have them so I never watch live football except in the FA cup and Champions league. so no I cant watch Chelsea or anyone else for that matter ;( but I can watch Match Of The Day which is highlights on sat night or sun morning ;) not as good as live though

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i actually went to a bulls game and still have pics of michael jordan flying in the air to slam dunk the basketball :)))! he was like a god back then :D. so, are you gonna catch the liverpool and chelsea games this weekend? we're actually getting both games over here, right before the u.s. football games. but really early my time, like about 5am...so, i'll just catch the score later ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

as I said before if u saw, u have to have particular paid for channels to get live football and I don't have them so I cant watch it live ;(

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

really! i'll be getting the chelsea game this sat. :D i'll also be getting the hull city and arsenal games, do you like those teams? and then my reg. football, hockey and basketball this weekend.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh i don't know anything about all that mate, sorry. i'm surprised the uk football isn't on some reg. station where everyone there can catch it...over here, it'll be on the main nbc station, or one of the big ones. looks like they're trying to attract more of the u.s. audience, first time i've ever seen so much uk football games :D

but you should really check out more u.s. sports ;). have you ever seen a u.s. football game before?

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

don't really like hull or arsenal although some of my friends like them. youre only really meant to support one team although I have 2 bcos my mum and dad support different teams. otherwise id only have 1

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

no

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

soz, but theres not u.s football on free channels either

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

well, in u.s. football i got 1 main team, the new york giants. what happens when your parents' teams play each other? ;D

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

doesn't really happen an more as qpr are in the 2nd division but when they do I support qpr as theyre my main team- I go to matches, etc. but I support Liverpool too. I was always brought up as a qpr fan though by my dad and grandad

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

sorry mate, i don't know what 'qpr' is...so you've never seen an american football game or an ice hockey game?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

queens park rangers- its a uk football team just not one of the best ;( no ive never seen them before

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well mate, you really should check out more u.s. sports ;). i tell piran all the time you guys got the boring sports ;D so, you've never seen a baseball game or basketball game? over here for both those sports, playoffs can get crazy ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

ill try and watch some maybe on youtube or something ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, try finding the 2017 junior hockey gold medal game. team usa (won) beat team canada and these are the amateurs ;). talk about an exciting game. my main hockey team are the chicago blackhawks, check out some of their games ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate, hop your ar$e over to the current official singles article...i put up some ed sheeran throwbacks ;). his 'x' album did even better than i thought @ the time :)

Has anyone noticed that there's now an Irish Singles Chart as well?

avatar

I.B.

2

There has been since 1962.

M

Martin

1

The Officialcharts.com have taken over the compilation of the Irish single and album charts since the 1st January. These are the first published charts, this explains why all the songs are new entries.

avatar

Techfan

Interesting, I noticed it as well. But I wasn't aware that it was something new.

avatar

Naos

1

Nice to see "Rockabye" still at #1. Lots of re-entries.

avatar

Carl Mefkintallica Foxall

-1

Positions 59 - 100 mostly consists of re-entries which goes 2 show that the chart's definitely fixed

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

2

Or the Christmas songs dropping out

R

RIME

2

Formula change to favor sales more (so if they're fixed, they'll be fixed in a way you probably like :P) combined with the Christmas songs getting swept away also combined with year-end countdowns meaning people are buying songs from last year more.

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

good Bad Things has re-entered- expecting top 40 place within 2 weeks

avatar

James England

2

Piran - it's not fair to compare Rockabye's 11 week run with Queen and Wet Wet Wet. Those groups sold units, actual records, not streams. You seem to be an authority on chart music so please accept pre-streaming success is not the same as the new streaming/combined sales era.

avatar

Piran

0

I'm just stating the chart facts though, even though I agree with you that it's not entirely fair.
That said, 'Rockabye' has been in the Top 2 on the sales chart (except one week) since it was released. Sorry if you thought I came across as unfair in my review, because I certainly wasn't trying to be.
Well either way, don't worry about it passing 'Bohemian Rhapsody' or 'Love Is All Around', because I doubt that will be happening.

James England

Fair enough. Thanks for the reply.

My usual thoughts & observations on the UK Charts this week…
- I’m pleased to see Clean Bandit’s ‘Rockabye’ at #1 for a ninth consecutive week. In fact, only two groups have had spent longer in total at the top with a song; Queen with ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (14 weeks) & Wet Wet Wet with ‘Love Is All Around’ (15 weeks).
- This might be ‘Rockabye’s last week at #1 though, as Ed Sheeran released two new singles from his upcoming third studio album, called ‘÷’. The songs are called ‘Shape Of You’ & ‘Castle On The Hill’ & both are performing extremely well on iTunes, with the former having a very slight lead over the latter. If these songs don’t fall too fast on downloads during the week, I have a feeling that Ed Sheeran will debut at #1 next week & I wouldn’t even be surprised if he has the Top 2 spots. At first listen, I would rate ‘Shape Of You’ an 8/10 & ‘Castle On The Hill’ a 7/10 for now, but both of those will probably increase soon. I wouldn’t put them on the same level as ‘Thinking Out Loud’ or ‘The A-Team’, but I’m definitely impressed by Ed’s new music.
- There were three very big climbers inside the Top 40 this week: John Legend’s ‘Love Me Now’ (38-17), Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ (39-21) & ZAYN ft Taylor Swift’s ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’ (36-23). I absolutely love all of these songs!
- I’m also very happy about every new entry into the Top 40 this week. Some of 2016’s biggest hits have either re-entered or climbed due to two main reasons; 1) the loss of Christmas songs & 2) appearing on End Of Year playlists across streaming services. Robbie Williams’ ‘Love My Life’ also returned to the Top 40 this week thanks to his BBC1 New Year’s Eve performance. The only return I was surprised to see was Calvin Harris’ ‘My Way’.
- Finally, it’s also nice to see Little Mix’s ‘Glory Days’ lead the albums chart for a fourth non-consecutive week. The group also have two songs in the Top 10 again this week!
- Overall, a fantastic week for the singles chart & a very promising start to 2017. Thanks for reading this everyone & have a great weekend. :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

haven't heard eds songs yet ill listen later theyre probs good

avatar

Carl Mefkintallica Foxall

But Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" didn't spend 14 consecutive wks at no. 1 It had 9 wks on top in 1975 and another 5 wks on top wen re-released in 1991

avatar

Piran

0

Sorry for the confusion, but I meant that 'Bohemian Rhapsody' had a total of 14 weeks at #1. I knew that they weren't consecutive.

avatar

Techfan

3

A couple of observations:

- That's 37 songs re-entering and only 2 new ones, with Bad and Boujee as one of them ...
- Mr. Brightside rebounding 90-49

Thanks for that additional information Techfan! :)
Yeah, 'Mr Brightside's discounted helped it a lot this week. It might just pass 'Chasing Cars's Top 100 longevity record after all.
I also wonder if the 37 re-entries is a new chart record...

hey what's up mate!! ready for the next batch of throwbacks? ;) so, will our mate ed debut on both the hot 100 and uk singles chart for next week or the week after?

Of course I'm ready to see them! ;)
Ed will be debuting on the UK Charts next Friday. Regarding the Hot 100, if either 'Shape Of You' or 'Castle On The Hill' get huge radio support in the US over the weekend, Ed could debut next Monday. It'll probably be the week after for the Hot 100 though!

I would like to see Castle on the Hill at number 1 but it'll probably be outperformed by Shape of You even though that song is pretty bad

yeah i wouldn't expect him on the hot 100 next monday...but hey, i've seen all kinds of crazy **** on the chart over the years ;). well, has ed had any top 10 debuts over here that you know of? wasn't really tracking his singles until he locked the #2 spot all those wks with 'thinking out loud'

I'll need to check if they were any Top 10 debuts from him on the Hot 100, but I know he did have three Top 10 hits in the US: 'Don't', 'Thinking Out Loud' & 'Photograph'. :)

i don't think he debuted in the top 10 over here...but yeah, we'll have to double check, maybe i'll do some future throwbacks on him ;)

That's a good idea! Could you do Ed Sheeran throwbacks for next week when he debuts on the charts please? :)

we'll see, i wanna also take a look @ 2 other uk groups we chatted about ;). even if both groups missed the top 10, it's still a feat just to make it on the chart.

No Top10 debut from Sheeran in Hot100. Highest debut was "Sing" on #15 (peek #13).

oh ok, thanks mate ;). i wasn't tracking ed too much on the hot 100 chart only until 'thinking out loud' locked the #2 spot for about 8 straight weeks ;)

Crikey, you think this pile of warmed-up non-hits from last year and a static top ten is "fantastic"?? You really ought to have been around any week in the 1980s when the charts had some real fizz and...well, meant something. The only decent news here is Robbie's single finally hitting the top 30 (although probably only for a week as he'll be shunted out by Some No Mark featuring Some Idiot and Another Idiot being downloaded by 5 year-olds with no taste). Hopeless.

'Cara Mia' was #1 for 10 weeks & 'Rose Marie' was #1 for 11, right?
Interestingly, that means only nine songs have spent longer atop the Official Charts than 'Rockabye'.

Thanks for that information! :)

number 1s these days cant be compared with the likes of queens ‘Bohemian Rhapsody todays chart has nowhere even near the unit sales of charts of 70s 80s or even 90s and the fact that the chart also takes streaming into its tally. also just a point i think bryan adams spent 16 weeks at the top which i think you failed to mention

I knew that Bryan Adams got 16 weeks at #1, but I think I was only referring to groups in my review. 'Everything I Do' is still the longest consecutive #1 in the UK if I remember correctly.
Also, I think what you're saying could be the one of the reasons why the OCC changed to streaming to sales formula from 100:1 to 150:1 this week. I agree that it's not a fair comparison that I mentioned, but it's unfortunately a true one. :/
