Has anyone got any sensible ideas on improving our National Chart? Streaming etc has virtually made the whole thing seize up...no movement except when a new teeny-bop song comes out.

We live in a crazy internet era of music and what qualifies as 'success'. Take this example. Kungs - Don't You Know (feat Jamie N Commons) It's got 12 milllion Youtube views which is quite impressive.

Guess what chart position it reached?

172

A song can get 12 million views online but not even get into the top 100 UK singles chart. Imagine if it sold a fraction of its 12 million 'views' - let's say 100,000 digital downloads sold, it would be one of the biggest hits of the year! The internet has altered what is and what isn't a success. You could argue the internet has devalued sales. Songs can be huge Youtube and streaming 'hits' but sell virtually no physical or download units! Kinda crazy when you think about it!

Anyway, give the song a listen, it's rather catchy!

Why is the singles chart dominated by the weeks recent album releases ...So many entries by one artist when there is loads of great new music out there .... I am surprised music featured in adverts especially new ones don't even make the top 90 .. Me and my friends love the new GReenday single revolution radio .. but no sign of any chart activity despite loads of radio ads and AirPlay .. The Chritmas advert featuring The song by Jynine James ..no reason , again no chart activity ..but loads of X factor related artists . Is it a conspiracy that only X factor related artists can rule the u.k. Chart

R

RIME

Radio doesn't directly factor into the chart. What matters is whether the songs are getting purchased or being played on audio services (i.e. not YouTube). That means also in the case of adverts that even if it's enough to have a Content ID match, watching it won't count toward this chart.

Some Great songs in new T.V. and online adverts ,surprised non have charted even in the lower chart.... Jynine James .. no reason , Greenday ..Revolution radio etc

Great to see Flume finally in the top 100! Been listening to that song for ages, surprised it's only just made an impact on the top 100.

It just arrived thanks to the Clean Bandit remix which counts towards the main entry.

No entry frm Dead or alive??

My last comment about a limit on the top streaming songs was removed. Da da daaaaaaaa!

In theory: if there were a limit on how long songs can stay in the chart - I dunno, let's say, 10 to 14 weeks, that might give a greater turn-around of songs and give more chance for new entries. I think it's worth the OCC thinking about tinkering with the format for 2017.

What a terrible top 10. Same top 5 as last week, that Sexual song has entered it and Clean Bandit's new inferior song has already scored high. The only real good thing that happened this week was Mercy climbing but I think his last song was better.

Treat you better? And do you not like Rockabye then? Think of it like this, if Ann Marie gets big their will be no point in Zara Larsson as she is a better Zara Larrson, and sexual is okay, but it sounds like they brought elephants in to the recording studio haha.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Zara Larsson is better IMO, yes Ain't My Fault is terrible but Lush Life and Girls Like with TT are both good. I've heard 5 Anne Marie songs, lead or featured and they're all terrible, EVEN that one with Rudimental

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

And yeah, that elephant bit in Sexual is stupid

C

Have to agree to disagree on that one, she is sexist and her voice is like herpes to me, grating, but Ann Marie can hit the high note's and has a more Ellie Goulding tone in her voice which I Like, plus Zara is not a British artist so it is not as satisfying when she hit's high, just do not like anything about her.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

Yeah it's true Zara Larsson is a feminazi

hey mates!! well, that's great for little mix, i'm really proud and happy for the girls...here in the u.s., still no female group to debut @ #1 on the hot 100...that'd be an amazing feat for any female group to nab ;). to my knowledge, the spice girls hold the all time record for highest hot 100 debut for a female group: 'say you will be there' debuted @ #5. *piran and i were chatting about this*.

so my next batch of throwbacks to share will be the beatles 200 albums chart feats...they still have the most #1 albums of any act in u.s. music history with 19 #1 albums. but, what's also amazing is how fast the beatles would reach the #1 spot...just zooming past everyone. lemme know what you all think, i'll have them ready in a sec ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

here's a look @ the beatles albums chart history on billboard, they also have the most diamond awards for a group: 6 diamond albums.

1. 'meet the beatles' enters on 2/1/1964 @ #92-3-1!!! will spend 11 wks @ #1, this was around the time of their appearances on the legendary ed sullivan show here in the states.

2. 'introducing the beatles' enters on 2/8/1964 @ #59-22-3-2 *final peak*. will lock the #2 spot entire time 'meet the beatles' is #1 for 11 straight wks.

3. 'beatles 2nd album' enters on 4/25/1964 @ #16-1! spends 5 wks @ #1. on 5/2/1964 the beatles have 3 albums in the top 10 simultaneously...not since elvis was first on the charts, no act has done this.

4. 'a hard day's night' enters on 7/18/1964 @ #12-1! spends a whopping 14 unbudgable wks @ #1.

5. 'beatles '65' enters on 1/2/1965 @ #98-1!!! spends 9 wks @ #1.

6. 'beatles VI' enters on 6/26/1965 @ #149-48-1!!! spends 6 wks @ #1...the amazing thing about this feat, the chart still has only 150 entries...so to be @ the bottom and then just zoom past everyone else, incl. already-established u.s. acts is very amazing!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

3

7. 'help!' enters on 8/25/1965 @ # 148-61-1!! spends 9 wks @ #1. *chart still has 150 entries*

8. 'rubber soul' enters on 12/25/1965 @ #106-60-1!! will spend 6 wks @ #1.

9. 'yesterday and today' enters on 7/9/1966 @ #120-18-2-1!! spends 5 wks @ #1.

10. 'revolver' enters on 9/3/1966 @ #45-1!! spends 6 wks @ #1.

11. 'sgt. pepper's lonely hearts club band' enters on 6/24/1967 @ #8-1!! spends a staggering 15 wks @ #1. album will go 11x plat. first beatles' collection to achieve u.s. diamond status.

12. 'magical mystery tour' (soundtrack) enters on 12/23/1967 @ #157-4!-1! spends 8 wks @ #1.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

4

13. 'white album' enters on 12/14/1968 @ #11-2-1!! 9 wks @ #1. this album was originally a 4-record set and will reach 19x plat. over here, still their biggest seller in the u.s.

14. 'abbey road' enters on 10/18/1969 @ #178-4!!-1!! spends 10 wks @ #1 *chart obviously has 200 entries* and will reach 12x plat.

15. 'let it be' enters on 5/30/1970 @ #104-2!-1!! :))))! spends 4 wks @ #1.

16. ' 1967-70' *greatest hits collection spanning those yrs, called the 'blue collection' over here* enters on 4/14/1973 @ #97-24-10-7-5-2-1. spends 1 wk @ #1, this is a 2 album collection and will eventually go 17x plat.

17. '1962-66' 2-disc collection, called the 'red collection' enters on 4/14/1973 @ # 94-23-9-6-4-3 *final peak*. will go 15x plat.

Definitely very interested info you are posting about The Beatles. I liked their music but am not too familiar with how they did on the charts. So White Album and Abbey Road spent a while at number 1. Also that is cool about Help! and A Hard Days Night spending 14 weeks at number 1. Basically everything they released went to number 1 it seems lol. They really had a large impact.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

oh wait...i'm not done yet ;). did you see my beatles hot 100 throwbacks yet? but the beatles had tons of albums in the top 10....too many to list :D. 1964 was their red hot period on both charts...for the albums chart, basically you never saw them leave the top 10 all that year :D. but with their first album 'meet the beatles'...to be @ #92 and you got established u.s. artists like elvis, the beach boys, the supremes and the beatles just fly past everyone LOL! ok, i have a few more throwbacks to put up :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

3

18. 'anthology 1' enters on 12/9/1995, spends 1 wk @ #1.

19. 'anthology 2' enters on 4/6/1996 @ #1, spends 1 wk @ #1.

20. 'anthology 3' enters on 11/16/1996 @ #1, will spend 1 wk @ #1.

21. '1' *collection of their u.s. and uk #1 songs* enters on 12/2/2000 @ #1 and becomes billboard's #1 album of the year for 2001. will spend 8 wks @ #1 & reach 11x plat. and i have to say, i was tracking this album in the top 10...very thrilling to see it week after week in the top 10 & @ #1 for so long. it reached 10x plat very fast :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

i'm all done now...let me know what you think, 178-4! :D can you imagine if someone did that today? the bb site would crash down ;D

J

Jstar

1

I have been cleaning around. But I will check them in a few minutes. I'm glad you are doing better today and am able to stay on longer.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

i'm actually gonna be signing off in a bit, gonna get breakfast ready. but i should be back on later today. but lemme know what you think...i think it's cool the beatles have all those #1 albums and songs...but i think it's even cooler how fast they achieved them ;). talk to you later :)

J

Jstar

1

Talk to you later on and enjoy Breakfast.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

sorry i couldn't come back...too tired. so, you never saw my past throwbacks? :) now i can bring 'em all back :D i did throwbacks on the dixie chicks, tlc, destiny's child, bsb, nsync, jt, britney, mj, whitney :D. even doing the bdays of 1D and lm and telling piran what i'd be tracking on the charts and i even used his bday :)

J

Jstar

3

I took a look at some of your past throwback's. So you don't have to post them all again lol. But you could if you want too haha.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Jstar! Have you had a good weekend buddy? :)
Well despite what the comments will be like tonight, I bet you're very excited for tonight's BB200 & Lady Gaga getting her 4th #1, right? :D
It's good to see that Sunshine Gal is feeling better today & I've already done some research into #3-peaking songs! My lists tonight are going to be favourite songs where the title starts with the letter 'G' & as usual, each of us will choose our Top 10 favourite songs of the week. ;)

J

Jstar

1

Hey Piran. I look forward to your lists.

I don't care about the negative comments. Let them talk foolishly lol. My weekend has been going well. Good to see Sunshine Gal doing better each day also.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah just pretend they aren't there & don't respond to them! ;) LOL
I'm also very pleased with how Sunshine Gal is recovering & it's great to hear that you had a good weekend as well. :D
I might even be on here a bit longer than usual tonight, as the clocks went back in the UK by 1 hour last night. :)

J

Jstar

1

Well I am glad that your family was able to visit you. I really never understood daylight savings time. Why do we have to put the clock back 1hr lol.

I saw that you have been getting great results on your exams which is awesome. Lady Gaga is expected to have the 4th largest debut of the year which is fantastic from what people thought she would do coming into last week.

avatar

Piran

1

Well I'm pleased to say that 'Joanne' has now officially entered at #1 with a total of 201,000 units! Only Beyoncé's 'Lemonade' has had a stronger debut in 2016 among women. :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

yeah, cuz before i come on here, i've already done chores and such and since it takes me much longer, i'm all pooped out :). but i'm able to walk better and a lil' on my own without the crutch. my dad was shocked! and my left big toe is healing very well...i still can't stand or walk on my own, but i've been walking (with the crutch) around my apt and there's def. a lot of progress.

i hope there wasn't too much drama about gaga getting the #1 album...i still don't see what the big deal is. i'm not a fan of drake or riri and i certainly got sick and tired of seeing them always @ #1, but it is what it is. they have as much right as the artists i like to succeed on bb.

ok young man, i'm going back to the cubs game (my dad's a lifelong fan) and it's been about 108 yrs *really!* since they've won the world series, let alone a home game in the world series (they won over the weekend @ home, everyone chicagoan was excited). oh how are the heat doing these days? :D

J

Jstar

1

Good to see you were on yesterday. I am at work now. But my day usually goes by fast at work. It good to hear your doing better each day. Maybe next week you be able to start walking a little without your crutches.

The Gaga article was surprisingly good for the most part. Piran did some polls. I did my list of favorite songs that peaked at 3. Most of the haters came late at night when no one was there lol. Gaga actually had the 4th biggest opening of the year with 201k equivalent units. You need to like my top comment on the Gaga article though lol. I got 18 likes. I am still looking for 2 more to get 20 haha.

I thought the series was over a few days ago but it will be interesting to see who takes the crown tonight. I told you my Heat are not going to be great this year. But we are 2-2 which isn't bad since we no longer have Bosh or Wade. But we have 3 rings since 06 lol. But the Bulls are 3-0. You can thank D-WADE for that. Maybe I will talk to you later today Sunshine Gal. I hope everything is going well.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, i'll try and go to the articles, but once i post a comment usually other fans wanna chat. of course, i never mind this, but i'm too exhausted these days, so i'll just hang out here for now. that way i only write a few posts and if i'm too tired, i'll sign off.

well, the cubs won the world series! not tech. a fan, but my dad's side everyone loves the cubs ;). my grandfather was a lifelong fan (he's passed on) and on the chicago tribune and other cubs-related sites, they've been interviewing locals in chicago that are not only happy for the cubs, but also saying how they had past relatives who were life long fans and didn't live to see the cubs make it to the world series. so, the curse is finally broken!

well, is gaga gonna keep the #1 album spot on sunday? well, glad to see the haters didn't cause too much trouble, i can't stand fans like that. just because you don't like something, why gotta ruin it for someone else? and yes, i was telling piran i'm def. improving, i can walk longer lengths without the crutch. i'm gonna surprise my dad today :). my left foot is as swollen up as it was before...and my bruises are healing up.

and don't forget about our rematch ;) it's coming up in a few days right? i've been so busy, oh i bought bobby brown's memoir and it's really good! i have like a dozen pages left to go...i'll tell you more about it next time :)

J

Jstar

1

I understand if you don't want to go on the main article's right now. But you still have to like my comment on the Gaga article lol.

That is cool that the Cubs won. This is the second time this year a team has come back from 3-1 to win a ring. The Cavs did it vs the Warrior's and now the Cubs have done it verse the Indians. I think the Heat and Bulls play next Thursday.

Gaga won't be number 1 this week. But I am not upset. It was obvious since Kenny Cheney was releasing a album this week. Also we had a few surprise album releases on Sunday. Gaga actually could of been number 1 again if it was another week this year.

But it is cool you are on today. I hope that by December you will start to feel like your old self again. But accidents happen all the time. It is just a part of life.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

alright, i'll try and find and like your comment ;). i'll just click your name and find it that way...cuz i'm also commenting on cubs-related stuff :). and that's great our rematch is coming up...we know who'll win it, my guys :).

well, i'm also gonna be moving next month, so that's why i thought of doing a 2 month break. but i'll be back no matter what. any interesting new releases coming up soon?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

alright young man, i liked just about every comment i saw on your notifications page for the gaga article, not sure if i got the one you're talking about. so wait, the haters think she cheated? didn't katy perry's label do something like that to get that 6th #1 song on itunes? what's so bad if gaga does the same thing?

avatar

Piran

1

Hey, don't forget to like mine as well! ;) LOL
Seriously though, I understand if you're too busy to check out my weekly lists on Billboard right now. I've also started doing polls on the Hot 100 & BB200 article as well now.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

hahaha!! hey, i'll invite jstar to our chat...i don't have the strength to scroll thru the article (i'm also hobbling and doing laundry in between). well, we'll see if i'm up to doing any lists. just chatting for shorter times works fine for me right now though.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

oh wait, i read the uk stats wrong, bsb's sole uk #1 was 'i want it that way'...it was in the top 10 for many weeks over here.

J

Jstar

1

If you look for best comment. I should have the top one with 18 likes LOL. But I appreciate you liking my other comments. They say she used PayPal to buy sales haha.

These guys got me rolling with their excuses. The funny thing is that she only sold about 1,000 copies with that deal. The rest of the sales were at full price.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

some other time young man, i'm also celebrating with the cubs community on other sites...hey wanna join me and piran's chat? we're discussing bsb's uk chart success...they had a #1 song over there and 16 top 10 hits!

well, who cares what she did, if bb felt she earned the #1 spot, she earned it! that's how i see it...look @ drake and riri, their fans kept streaming their songs and according the hot 100 rules, they rightfully earned the top spots. i personally didn't like it :D but i would never even think of fighting with their fans like drake or riri committed some type of heinous crime :D

avatar

Piran

0

Well like I said, do whatever you're comfortable with. :)
I spoke to Jstar for a few hours last night & that was definitely a lot of fun. Yeah bring him to our chat if you want.

J

Jstar

1

I can chat for a little. I am doing OT right now. But I am just on call in case of any problems. You can get to it when you have time lol.

Well that is cool you are able to celebrate the Cubs winning. Ok I will see what you guys are discussing with the Backstreet Boys.

Yeah. I don't get mad at others having success. But it seems a lot of people do haha. Ok see you and Piran there.

avatar

Piran

1

You've probably already read through BSB's chart history in the UK, but yeah 'I Want It That Way' was their only #1 here (it debuted atop the charts!), but they did get 16 Top 10s including that. :)
No #1 albums, although they did reach #2 twice, with 'Backstreet's Back' & 'Millennium'. Their only other Top 10 appearance on the albums chart was with the #5=peaking 'Greatest Hits - Chapter One'.

J

Jstar

1

Hey Piran. I wasn't going to plan on being on today. But since our friend Sunshine Gal is here I can spare some time.

So you are guys are comparing how the BSB's did in the U.S to the U.K?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah it's the same with me... I wasn't expecting anyone to be on today! ;) LOL
Well that's great that all 3 of us can chat to each other again. Yeah we are comparing how BSB did in the UK & the US, but we're also discussing NYSNC as well. :D
Have you had a good day then? :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

it debuted @ #1??!!! !! they'd be the 1st boyband to achieve that over here (aerosmith is still the only group to debut @ #1 on the hot 100 with 'don't wanna miss a thing'). not only that, 'i'll never break your heart' peaked @ #8?/!! it peaked @ #39 or something over here! that's my all time fave bsb vid and song!! do you know how many times i yelled @ bb each week cuz it couldnt' crack the top 10!!?? also, 'as long as you love me' peaked @ #3?? over here, it was ineligible to chart on the hot 100..i forget what the dumba$$ rule was LOL!

but that's pretty good...nobody's scored 7 top 10 hits off 1 album since janet's 'rhythm nation' album in 1989 over here.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

in case i forget though, i'm also doing laundry and other things before my dad gets here...keep in mind, since i'm moving slower, even taking a few towels to my bedroom can take some time. that's also why it's draining for me to be chatting...but anyway, i liked lots of your comments and i agree with you 1000%. nothing wrong with gaga (and i was right about her being #1 for 1 week....so why all the hate?) doing well on bb. there's room for everyone to succeed. i still don't see why anyone has to hate on it...anyway, you're welcome to join our chat. funny how huge artists and albums over here had a much different response over there. bsb has about 6-8 top 10 hit over here, over there, they have 16!! and 1 #1...over here, none.

avatar

Piran

1

Is 'Rhythm Nation' still the only album ever to have 7 Hot 100 Top 10 hits? Well 'As Long As You Love Me' is the biggest selling BSB single in the UK & the reason it couldn't chart on the Hot 100 is because it wasn't released an official single (I don't think album tracks that weren't available as singles separately were eligible to chart in the US at the time). :/
Incredibly 'Don't Wanna Miss A Thing' peaked at #4 over here, even though groups have debuted at #1 in my country so many times!

J

Jstar

1

My day has been fine. So NSYNC also. What is their highest selling album in the U.K?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

rhythm nation is the only album with 7 top 5 singles and she's still the only female artist with 7 top 10's off 1 album. thriller and 'born in the u.s.a.' are the other albums with 7 top 10's.

are you ***** kidding me!!?? :D yeah i forget what that rule was, but they were doing so well in sales, it didn't matter too much to me that 'as long' didn't crack the chart. but i was sure as pi$$ed that 'i'll never break your heart' couldn't crack the top 10. and i just checked, it peaked @ #35 over here (not bad i still recalled the peak range!)....i used to vote for them on trl just about every day ;)

ok, let's see jt's uk chart stats...this is fun!

J

Jstar

1

That is interesting about them in the U.K. Well I know they were more popular in Europe first .

Take care of whatever you need to do. Whenever you want to sign off just let us know. I know you have a lot of things to take care of.

The Backstreet Boys and NSYNC had a lot of solo hits in the U.K. But they sold more albums in the U.S lol. I guess it just works that way.
But that is cool they had success in both countries. My comment posted twice for some reason lol.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

hard to believe nsync didn't have any #1 albums over there...do you remember when no strings attached was out? very interesting how different the responses were for both countries. not just for nysnc, but for everyone :D

in the uk, bsb *according to their u.s. debut album* had 7 top 10 hits *i think in the uk, it looks like they were stretched on 2 individual albums*, if that'd happen over here, they'd tie mj's thriller and be the first group with 7 top 10's on 1 album :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

mate i got a pending alert! ok, i'll shorten and not cuss so much :D rhythm nation is the only album with 7 top 5 singles and still the only album by a female artist to have 7 top 10's. thriller and born in the u.s.a. would be the other albums with 7 top 10s.

J

Jstar

1

Well. I was only like 6. So I don't remember too much haha. But I know they had a huge impact. But the response is extremely different. But albums use to sell like hotcakes during the 90s. So you really didn't need a lot of hit singles. I guess it was the opposite in the U.K.

That is awesome though they managed 7 top 10 hits over there.

avatar

Piran

1

That's good to hear! :)
NSYNC's biggest selling album in the UK would be 'No Strings Attached', but even then it failed to make the Top 10 is only certified Gold over here. It's quite surprising considering how well they performed on the Billboard charts. :/
It's actually a lot harder than I thought for American acts to make it big here. Here's a interesting fact that I thought you might be interested in: Lady Gaga has twice as many UK #1 singles as Mariah Carey does! However that's because Gaga has 4, but Mariah's only got 2! :O

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

did 1 of your posts get deleted? i was responding to it and got an alert 'post is being reviewed by a moderator.' don't see what was so bad about it.

well, i certainly remember bsb's momentum over here ;). well, they scored 16 top 10's altogether in the uk, their first 7 uk top 10 hits would've been on their u.s. debut album...so if the same response happened over here, all heck would break loose :D. lots of fun when they were big...i was so thrilled each week seeing them in the top 10. but i never thought to see how they were doing overseas, over here they did amazing! 14x plat. that year :)

J

Jstar

1

It is funny the differences between the U.K and U.S chart wise. I know Gaga has 4. But I didn't know Mariah only had 2 over there. That is funny considering she had 18 in the U.S lol.

J

Jstar

1

I deleted it because the same comment posted twice. I know it must've been fun back then. It must of been co seeing people line up to buy album. You certainly don't see that anymore since you can just stream albums for free lol. I do pay attention to some other countries charts besides the U.S. But Boy and were huge in the last 90s and early 2000s. So it is cool especially how good NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys did.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah but what is a shame is that Taylor Swift still has 0 over here. Regarding Mariah, 'One Sweet Day' only peaked at #6, but 'Without You' & 'Against All Odds' are her 2 #1 singles in the UK (the latter is with Westlife). :)
Well I'm going out with some friends right now, but please tell Sunshine Gal I said goodnight to her & that I'll reply to her tomorrow now. Enjoy the rest of your day dude!

oh that's what happened? oh i'll be signing off in a lil' bit...gotta finish the laundry, get lunch ready and my dad will be stopping by soon.

well, without youtube or streaming, of course you'd have to buy the whole album. also their uk debut album didn't get released over here...the 'backstreet's back' album was their u.s. debut, but simply called 'backstreet boys'.

Good to see Little mix log a 2nd week at number 1 with SOTME. Such a good song and the girls deserve it. The rest of the top 5 is completely stationary which is a shame but not a bad top 10. Happy that NEIKED has arrived at 6 and very happy that Clean Bandit are back in the top 10. I love there new song with Anne Marie and Sean Paul! Good to see Shawn Mendes and Galantis continue to climb. Mercy is growing on me and Love on me i still really like.
Interesting that after 6 months Drake has fallen below number 21 for the first time. One Dance has been around way to long. It`s a good song and without doubt will be the biggest song of the year but it defiantly does not deserve to be in the charts for how long it has been. Happy that Drake`s new ones in the top 40 though.
Elsewhere, not to much movement, Drake`s other songs are slowly falling, and Fifth Harmony are falling which is a shame because i actually love there new song. It also looks like Cheap Thrills is never going to leave the top 40 as its just not falling.
Hopefully next week Jonas Blue and Louisa Johnson can debut high. Loving Jonas Blues new one (as usual)
Also hoping Zara Larson can reach the top 10 with the 59p discount on itunes, Ain`t my fault is a real grower as im finding it very catchy atm. Would not mind Bruno Mars heading back into the top 10 also.
Overall, a decent week.

Oh no little mix are still at number 1:(
I really need SYWLG, Closer and Starving to go out of the top 5. SYWLG is OK, but Closer and Starving haven't grown on me since they were released and I still want them to fall.
Although Sexual and Rockabye are both entering the top 10 and they're both epic. :) I hope that at least one of them can hit the top 5.
I hope that 24k magic and don't wanna know can somehow reach new peaks.
Mercy is climbing 25 POSITIONS! That must be one of the highest climbs within the top 40.
ain't my fault is rising :( even though it's only one position it's still sad
But Love On Me is climbing 10 places and that makes me happier
And Drake has released two new singles. It depends on how well they do, but I think they are going to rise. I just hope that Fake Love doesn't spend 15 weeks at number 1
all we know is making my angry. how is it still in the top 40?
Crank It and Waste A Moment have both missed out on the top 40. Kings of Leon will probably find it very hard to get into the top 40 from now on but I hope that Crank It will get into the top 40 (I thought it was going to hit the top 40 three weeks ago but it's still climbing painfully slowly).
Love Me Know and Fresh Eyes are both climbing. They're both OK
AND NOW, FOR OLLY MURS, WHO WILL GET STRAIGHT INTO THE TOP 40 AND FLY UP TO NUMBER 1 and not even get past its original peak of 52 :(
Would I Lie To You has been climbing for a few weeks now but I'm not sure whether it will climb into the top 40.
Juju has flew up this week, it might be in the top 40 in a few weeks.
Lady Gaga has three songs in this week's chart because of her album getting to number 3
Tove Lo has two songs in this week's chart and got Flume to 69, which is his personal peak. I like Flume's new song and I hope that it will rise in the next few weeks.
:) Craig David's song 16, which is basically just Where Are U Now (a good song) mixed with Craig David (a bad singer) is FALLING! HAHAHA
All Night is falling, although it's a good song, maybe it could spend one more week?
Mr Brightside falls 9 places but I think it will stay in next week, maybe climb (which would make me happy)
I noticed that in Fade's chart run, all the chart positions it has been at are multiples of 5 eg. 65, 50, 55, 60, 75, 90 lol
Kids falls 34 places, and in a couple of weeks it will probably climb again, but I doubt it will get into the top 40 :(
:) On a good note, broccoli is falling
All Goes Wrong has RE-ENTERED! Wow

And I congratulate anyone who has read this far

That Tove Lo don't have much luck these days does she, although I found out the other day she wrote 'Still Falling For You' which Ellie Goulding performed, Olly Mur's 'You Don't Know Love' leave's the top 40 for the first time after a 15 week run, 'Rockabye' coming in at respectable 7 with that girl who sound's like a much better Zara Larrson, a hypnotic song where Anne Marie does her best Ellie Goulding style voice, not that anyone will have noticed but Robbie William's new song which is really lovely 'I Love My Life' about what a parent likes their kid to say has missed the top 100, not to worry the album will do well or it is I'm a celebrity get me out of here and celebrity big brother for you Robbie boy with all the other z listers and hasbeens, hopefully not though I love Robbie, quite an uneventful chart and nothing else interesting to report, that is all beautiful people.

Yeah to 11, it has done okay but the number hasn't done it justice, it might hopefully shoot back up the charts when his album is out.

Congratulations to Little Mix for a 2nd week at #1 with 'Shout Out To My Ex' this week. I see that they currently have twice the lead on the iTunes chart & they are also leading slightly on Spotify right now, but it's also great to see that the official video has already passed 25 million YouTube views in just over 7 days. :)
The entire Top 5 is completely stationary though, but I like all of the songs in it, so I don't really mind that this week. 'Sexual' & 'Rockabye' are the new arrivals in the Top 10 this week & both seem good in my opinion.
In terms of the big climbers in the Top 40 this week, I think 'Mercy' is decent (it's definitely not my favourite Shawn Mendes song, but I certainly prefer it to 'Treat You Better'). 'Love On Me' has been growing on me a lot over these past few days, however I'm still not a huge fan of it yet.
It's a shame to see that 'All Night' couldn't make the Top 40 last week & is now completely flopping, but regarding next week, I think: 'So Good', 'Crank It [Woah]', 'By Your Side' will be next week's Top 40 debuts & maybe 'You Gotta Not' or 'One Eye On The Door' as well.
At least 'Broccoli' isn't gaining any more momentum, but I have a feeling that 'Juju On Dat Beat' will become a hit over here eventually.
Also 'Mr Brightside' is currently 22 weeks away from earning the most weeks in the Official Charts Top 100 of any song of all-time. Snow Patrol's 'Chasing Cars' has the record with 166 weeks in!
I was pleased to see Elvis Presley make history on the albums chart, as his 13th #1 there gives him more than any other solo artist ever.
Not a bad week overall, though things were a bit more boring than last week.

Good review Piran. That is cool Little Mix secured a second week at number 1. It is cool to see Hailee Steinfeld have success also.

I do remember the U.K charts use to have so many number 1 debuts before they incorporated streaming into the chart. But you have to keep up with the times. Streaming is how the majority of people listen to music today.

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks Jstar! :)
Yeah I'm really pleased for Little Mix getting a 2nd week at #1 & if they're atop this chart again next week (which is very likely), then it will tie 'Black Magic' for their longest #1 single here in the UK. I also love 'Starving' as well & I hope it becomes at least a Top 10 over in the US. :D
Regarding the #1 debuts, the UK charts also don't use radio in their formula. However airplay takes a while to grow, so that would be why there have only been 26 #1 debuts in the history of the Hot 100. This also means that before streaming was incorporated into our charts, it was all based on sales here. ;)
I think the chart formula we use is '1 sale = 100 streams', while Simm & Ines always say '1 sale = 120 streams' for the Hot 100. That just shows you how much streaming has influenced the singles charts everywhere, but especially in my country.

J

Jstar

1

Well I don't want to keep you on long since you had a busy day and it is 1am over there. But I hope you had a good dinner and a great time with your family tonight.

That is cool they may tie Black Magic. Starving just needs a little more radio airplay here in the U.S. Yeah I know radio was not apart of the U.K singles chart. That is why you guys use to have so many different number 1 songs lol. I think radio is the least trustworthy method anyway. So I feel streaming and sales should be the main focus on any chart.

I hope you have a goodnight though if you don't respond again.

avatar

Piran

2

Yeah this will have to be my last response for today unfortunately. I'll try be on for a little bit tomorrow afternoon or evening your time, but I'll definitely be on for a few hours on Sunday supporting all of you Gaga fans! ;)
I think SOTME may even pass 'Black Magic' for weeks at #1 in the UK. Fun fact: our charts had 24 #1s in 2015, but 2016 has only seen 10 of them so far! :D LOL
Well I also disagree with the inclusion of that metric, because you can decide what you buy or stream, but not what is played on radio.
Oh I did have a great dinner with my family tonight & it was awesome to see them again! Enjoy the rest of your night as well Jstar. :)

Hi Piran, nothing I said last week came true haha, was really hoping for a new topper cos as you know I am not a fan of this chart topper, I think 'Say You Won't Let Go will be a potential runner this week or next again due to the attention of his album being out what do you think? And do you think it is likely 'Rockabye' will be a contender on how it is doing now? And last thing I thought I'd ask is, is there any site where you can specifically keep track of how many sale's an album or single has? I have been trying to find put how many sale's Tom Chaplin's 'The Wave' album sold in its first week, thanks.

J

Jstar

I wasn't on the U.K singles chart last week but I will check it out. Well I am glad to hear you are slowly doing better each day. But I understand you are exhausted. But I won't forget about the rematch. I don't watch baseball too much so I don't care who wins lol.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

haha...well, i'm editing the beatles 200 throwbacks...tell me what you think :). i still have about 10 more albums to list, but i put the hot 100 ones on the last uk article....the beatles rock! there's no other way to put it.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey chartwatcher! I hope you've had a good week. :)
Yeah I know how much you dislike SOTME, but what do you think of Little Mix's previous music then? Well here's a fun fact: there have been no songs released in 2016 to return to #1, so SYWLG could be the 1st to do so. I think there is definitely a chance for 'Say You Won't Let Go' to go back to #1 in the coming weeks, but 'Shout Out To My Ex' still has a huge lead on iTunes now, so I imagine that it will get 4+ weeks at #1 before anything comes near to challenging it. 'Rockabye' could be a future #1 contender, but it needs to do a lot better on streaming than it currently is (I see it peaking in the Top 5 like 'Tears' did for now).
Regarding album or single sales, I'll need to check to see if I can find a website for that. At the moment, you can find the sales for any #1 album or single by searching for '2016 In British Music Charts' on Google. Sorry but I couldn't find anything about 'The Wave' by Tom Chaplin.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! I'm back again. :)
I'm sorry that I couldn't chat to you earlier, but it's great that you were able to come on the Official Charts page tonight & post your Beatles throwbacks. I see Jstar is also taking an interest in them which is awesome & I'll be available to chat to up until about 6pm your time if you'll be on until then! :D
Well SOTME is only just in the Top 100 on US iTunes right now, but it made a gain on the Spotify charts today (to #43) & the YouTube views are now 28.175,780, so I'm hoping that streaming will help it gain on the Hot 100. ;)

avatar

Piran

0

Hey Riley! My week has been very good, but incredibly busy (hence the late reply to you!) ;) LOL
Well I'm pleased that you liked my review & yours was awesome as always. However although I want it to, I don't think 'Ain't My Fault' will make the Top 10. It's already falling on iTunes & has been discounted for a while anyway, but it's gain in streaming could still give it a chance.
Regarding Shawn Mendes, his new album is nowhere near as good as his debut release if I'm honest, but 'Mercy' is definitely my favourite song from it.
As for next week's debuts, I currently see Jonas Blue debuting in the 16-20 region & Louisa Johnson entering around this region as well. The latter's new song is doing worse at the moment, but there's tomorrow's X Factor performance that could give it a sales boost. What do you think then?

C

chartwatcher

1

Thanks hope you have too :), I like their music just not this song by them, not to worry then thanks anyway, just thought I'd ask you because you seem like you have a lot of knowledge with it all, and okay we will see, and just another thing I'll tell you which interested me anyway to do with the album's here, Lady Gaga has got to number 3 selling 26,694 in her opening week and Fleur East last year made 14 selling 26,691 ,hardly seems fair but it all make's sense though, cos as you know it all depends on who is in front and how much their selling, Fleur picked a bad time right at the end of the year when all the albums shoot back up for xmas.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Personally I hope Mr Brightside doesn't gain more weeks than Chasing Cars in the top 100. I love both songs and while Mr Brightside maybe deserves it more having only spent SIX weeks in the top 40, Chasing Cars is the better of the two.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

I hope Rockabye doesn't out-peak Tears, Rockabye is pretty bad IMO.

R

1

I never knew Zara Larson was discounted for so long wow :O. thanks btw on my review :)
I think Mercy will be similar to Sucker for Pain and stay around the 15-20 zone for awhile. I really like it, the laid back music suits Mendes. Well after hearing that Louisa is performing on the x factor i think she has a chance of top 15 for sure. I really hope Jonas Blue can get into the top 10, i LOVE his new single. I reckon that will be top 15 but miss out on the top 10. I would also like to see Bruno Mars back in the top 10 with 24K magic. I wouldn't mind Maroon 5 in the top 10 but i understand why Don`t wanna Know has debuted so low, it sounds so similar to Let Me Love You.

avatar

Piran

1

You're welcome! :)
Regarding 'Sucker For Pain', I think it peaked at #11, but I could see it getting lots of weeks in the Top 20 without ever going Top 10 as well. Yeah I really didn't like 'Treat You Better' & actually preferred his previous album, but I'd like to see 'Mercy' become a hit. I think considering how successful 'Fast Car' & 'Perfect Strangers' were, I'm quite sure that 'By Your Side' will go Top 10 eventually. Bruno is also performing on the X Factor tonight, so it's likely that '24k Magic' will return to the Top 10 on Friday too. :D
Yeah I don't understand why 'Don't Wanna Know' hasn't made the Top 10 yet either, but I also really like the song. It would be pretty cool having 2 appearances from Kendrick Lamar in the Top 10 at the same time. ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I definitely prefer 'Tears' as well. Speaking of that, what do you think of Louisa Johnson's new song, 'So Good'? :)

avatar

Piran

0

I completely agree with you there! :)
I actually just released that 'Chasing Cars' only peaked at #6 & 'Mr Brightside' peaked at #10. I'm surprised neither song charted higher.

avatar

Piran

1

I've had a great week thanks! :D
Regarding Lady Gaga, I think that means 'Joanne' is her 1st studio album (excluding 'Cheek To Cheek' with Tony Bennett) that hasn't reached #1. It is extremely unlikely to do so now. :/
Well I've just found the opening weeks each of Lady Gaga's albums in the UK:
The Fame - 25,228 (but has sold nearly 3 mill. copies since then & is the 9th best selling album of the 21st century)
Born This Way - 215,639
ARTPOP - 65,608
Joanne - 26,694
So what do you think of 'Joanne ' then? I like it, but I prefer her previous releases. :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

yeah i was too wobbly on my legs so i laid down for awhile reading a book after i posted my throwbacks. i just spoke to ines, explaining you're my main messenger :D (i'm already getting tired). well, jstar and i have chatted in the past about past artists and their feats, but i never thought to do any throwbacks as they are time-consuming and i didn't have my own internet @ the time.

well, i may bring some bsb and nsync throwbacks to share with everyone. along with u.s. female groups like the dixie chicks, tlc and destiny's child...just to show the uk fans what the biggest artists were achieving over here.

so, lm will debut on the chart in the 60-70 range? any info on whether they'll move up in the following week.

avatar

Piran

1

That's okay & it was great seeing your throwbacks once again! :)
Well I understand that typing all of these posts are probably tiring you out as well, but I'm going to update you on the BB200's Top 10 tomorrow if you can't be on later. I'll certainly be supporting Jstar & the rest of the Gaga fans on the BB200 article tonight. :D
I think somewhere around 60-70 sounds about right for now, but Simm & Ines should update us on that prediction later. As for next week, we should get a better idea of that on tomorrow's Hot 100 article.
Regarding my weekly lists, do you still want to participate in these? Also it's 5pm in the UK right now & it's already starting to get dark (the clocks went back by 1 hour last night!). You'll be pleased to know that I got 89% in my latest online practice test though. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i actually got a 'pending' alert...so, i'll re-edit my posts, brb....

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

hahah!! that's right...!!! gaga will be the title of the 200 article..i'll try and stick around for all that. i totally forgot...what a difference 1 week can make. and i'll have to pass on the lists mate...cuz right before i'm on on here chatting with you, i've already eaten breakfast, did the dishes, going to the bathroom, etc. and since these things take more effort and time for me to do them, that could also be why i get so tired when i'm finally done with all that go online.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

, i got it again...ok, lemme try 1 more time...well, that's good about your studies...over here it's 10 am and nice and sunny. my dad's coming over and he'll be getting me things i need. but his beloved cubs team lost yesterday in the world series...did you read my 1 post about their past folklore?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

i got another pending...basically i congrats your studies and was telling you my dad's baseball team lost yesterday in the world series. they're down 3-1 in the series and if the other teams wins, the other team wins the world series. (it's 7 games, the first team to win 4 games is the champion). but i wrote you a post about my dad's team's past folklore, were you able to read it?

avatar

Piran

1

Well I'm very happy that Lady Gaga will get her 4th BB200 #1 & I'm also pleased to see high debuts from Michael Buble & Pentatonix in the latest updates. :)
It's a shame that you won't be able to participate in these lists, but I'd rather you get rest than having to reply to every single post I do on each article.
As you may not have time to see them, I'll give you updates on the Hot 100 & Year-End charts, as well as how all of the other commenters are. I've already chatted to Joseph about your accident & he hopes you get better soon as well. :D
Little Mix looks likely to get a 3rd week at #1 on the UK charts next Friday & the SOTME video is already at 30,188,350 views! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

ok tell joseph i said thanks...also can you tell marco and michael jenkins and any of the sane people :D. i never realized how much energy it is to chat with everyone :D.

the vid's @ 30mill. already?? ...well, how much do they need to get a plat. award? oh did you read my post about the chicago cubs? it's a true story! yesterday was the 1st home world series game since like 1906! but they lost...there's another game tonight in cleveland, so hopefully they can come back.

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks & I'll also update you on how my studies are going! :)
Yeah I briefly read about that post of yours; wasn't it that a fan wasn't allowed to bring his goat to a match & he said that they wouldn't win for a 100 years & that came true? :D LOL
So other than Little Mix getting a 2nd week at #1, what do you think of the rest of the UK charts then? ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I should see all of them on the BB200 article tonight & I will tell them then. This is probably a stupid question, but will the Hot 100 article still post tomorrow because it's Halloween night?
Yeah the video has now passed 30 mill. views & I think it's usually at least 120 mill. for a platinum certification, so they are 25% of that already! :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah...i don't know what was so offensive about my post, i got like 3 'pendings' in a row...but yes, very true story! i actually asked my dad about that (both him, my grandfather all were life long cubs fans). during those times, you could bring animals to the baseball games, but the personell told him no on the goat. and he and the goat had to leave and that's when he told them 'the cubs won't win the world series for the next 100 yrs'. granted, he was obviously very mad...but it turned out to be true. not only have the cubs not won a world series since, they've never even made it to the world series as a contender.

so, yesterday's game got the whole city to celebrate...the cubs haven't had a world series game in chicago in over 100 yrs! but they lost :(. they have a game tonight and if they can win it, then maybe they can come back.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

haha!! yeah the article should still post up, halloween isn't technically any kind of federal holiday. banks, libraries, etc. will still be open. i see no reason why bb would cease activities for a holiday that most americans will celebrate @ night. our next federal holiday over here would be veteran's day on 11/11. but i don't see that interfering with bb's chart sched.

so a gold certification would be around 60 mill.? well, if our 1D mates have that single re-certified pretty soon...hopefully. but good for lm...

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

who the is clean bandit? :D i was scrolling thru the chart..never heard of this act. quite a handful of acts i have no idea about.

avatar

Piran

1

Well I wonder how busy the Hot 100 article will be tomorrow... I know tonight will have easily have hundreds of comments! ;) LOL
Yeah 11/11 is on a Friday, so I didn't think Veterans Day would have any affect on the Billboard articles & I doubt Thanksgiving Day will either.
A gold would probably be about 60 mill. views. The RIAA definitely won't update Little Mix's certifications as soon as SOTME reaches 60 mill. views, but it is eligible to go gold when that happens. :D
Oh Elvis made a history-making achievement on the UK charts this week, as he earned his 13th #1 album over here & now passes Madonna as the most UK #1 albums by any solo artist ever! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

mate, i got another pending! i was asking who clean bandit was...i mean really?? i'm gonna submit this one to see if it'll post and then i'll answer your post.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

well, that's great for elvis...next year i'll be the same age he was when he passed :/. but that's great about his 13th #1 album...the one with the orchestra? his 30 #1's collection debuted @ #1 *i certainly saw that!* and went something like 5x plat. over here.

and speaking of elvis...does the uk charts have the archives like bb does? any way to see his early chart appearances? esp. in 1955.

avatar

Piran

1

Hmm... that is strange, because I've not been getting any today. We can continue chatting over on the current Hot 100 article if it keeps up. :/
Anyway, Clean Bandit are a British electronic music group. They are pretty much one-hit wonders in the US, as 'Rather Be' peaked at #10 on the Hot 100 chart dated 10/11/2014. It was the 2nd best selling song of 2014 here in the UK though & got 4 weeks at #1. Their new song, 'Rockabye', is currently #2 on iTunes over here, behind SOTME by Little Mix.

avatar

Piran

1

Next year will also be 40 years since Elvis died & this new album of his, called 'Wonder Of You', was indeed with the orchestra. Only The Beatles have more #1 albums in the UK, with 15. :)
Oh you can access the chart archives; if you go to the top of the page with the Top 100, then you should see 'Archives' & then you can enter any date for the singles chart back to November 1952.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

is lm gonna be #1 next week too? oh and i'm going thru the official charts' archive...it goes even further than 1955!!? but i can't find him on the uk charts for 1955.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah it's very likely that Little Mix will be #1 next week. If they do, then SOTME will tie 'Black Magic' for their longest UK #1 single so far. :)
Well our charts started back in November 1952, but I believe it was only a Top 12 at first. :D
I've just thought of something: you do Hot 100 throwbacks for me, so maybe I could do Official Charts throwbacks for you when you feel better. What do you think of that idea then? ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

oh mate, i found him on the uk charts for 1956...well, no internet back then :D. and he never toured europe....this might be a fun discussion!! in the uk, his first top 10 hit would be 'heartbreak hotel' *his first #1 in the u.s.* for 5/17/1956 which peaked @ #2. during that time in america in 1956, he was already a big star and was racking up all those #1's, gold records and being censored on tv :D. when he would be on the ed sullivan show and any other shows, the cameras would only film him above the waist. very interesting!

avatar

Piran

1

Regarding the gold certifications, were they very hard to get 50 years ago? Today I go to the RIAA websites & even artists who haven't made the Hot 100 can get them (streaming!) ;) LOL
Well I don't even know if Elvis got massive success across the rest of Europe, so that might be the reason why he didn't tour across the rest of the continent. I'll look at his discography though to see if he had any huge international hits outside of the UK charts & the Hot 100.

as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s around the time of his bday and his passing, there was always elvis specials on tv, his 68 comeback special, his aloha from hawaii concert special (i believe it might've been the first worldwide concert event via satellite). but i was too young to really know who he was.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

that'd be great mate! esp. uk acts i don't know too much about...but of course i'll gladly request bbmak and westlife and of course take that...any boybands with cute guys in them is fine with me :). also, can you lemme know how bsb and nsync did over there?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

well, i do believe they might've been hard to achieve, but also a gold record would be an incredible achievement. whereas artists back then may get 1-3...in 1955 he would've gotten something like 7-8 :D. i see the uk charts are 1 yr behind for him. but i also saw the beatles for the 1964 archives, and the beatles might've achieved their uk success about a year or 2 prior to coming to the u.s.

well, he didn't fly too much because his mother was very afraid for him flying on a plane. and when he did tour, esp. while she was still alive he would travel by bus or train. i think he did do a couple shows in canada, but all his concert appearances were all in the u.s.

but i also see many of his u.s. hits not doing well in the uk and vice versa :D some of his biggest uk hits were moderate hits over here. i see his first album went to #1 on 3/11/1956. by that time, not only was his music taking off, but he would've made several movies by that time. remember me telling you when elvis was in memphis for the premier of his 1st movie 'love me tender', he was once fired @ that same movie theater. and the same manager who fired him came up to him and wished him the best, and elvis was very gracious and even joked 'good thing you fired me, i would've never went into music' :D. or something like that.

hold on, i hit the send button too fast...i'm gonna re-edit that last post.

Didn't you say that you were only 2 years old when Elvis died? Well his performance in Hawaii must've been pretty cool... I've always wanted to go there! :)
So what has been the best televised performance that you have ever watched then?

avatar

Piran

0

Awesome! I'm quite busy for most of this coming week, but I'll message you back with some throwbacks on each of these groups on either Wednesday or Thursday (or whenever I have a bit more time to be on here!). I'll probably start with Westlife & Take That, as I remember some of their feats from memory. :)
So did you say that you were coming to the BB200 article tonight then? It would be awesome to see you there, but I've decided that if any Gaga haters respond to my posts, I'll just ignore them. :D
It's nice to see that you're on here a bit more than you were over the past few days though. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

3

yeah i was 2 in 1977...the best televised performance i've ever seen? def. mj's moonwalk on motown 25 in 1983. cuz the response the next day :D and afterwards was incredible. but i've seen tons of great performances, whitney houston singing the star spangled banner in the 1991 superbowl is also a very memorable one. same type of reaction for her..everyone loved it! all the radio stations kept playing it...nsync's 2000 ama performance of 'bye bye bye' was also very good. too many to name offhand.

avatar

Piran

0

I saw that you were still editing this post.
Yeah regarding Elvis, I can only find the 2002 remix of 'A Little Less Conversation' being successful across the rest of Europe. His US success is incredible though... I saw that he got platinum or even 2x platinum RIAA certifications in the 1950s though! :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

mate, my dad's here, i'll be back later :)

avatar

Piran

1

They are all really good as well, but for me it's probably Adele's performance at the BRIT awards back in 2011. You know because of my age, I didn't really watch many live performances before the start of this decade! :) LOL
However I usually just see them at award shows, however I'll watch every halftime show at the Super Bowl (which Lady Gaga will be headlining next year!). I just watch the show to see the artists sing & don't really care that much about the football. :D haha
Oh considering you really like 'Closer', I thought I'd let you know that it is guaranteed to get an 11th week at #1 on tomorrow's Hot 100. We think it might even get to 13 weeks & then probably 'Starboy' by The Weeknd will go atop the chart! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I look forward to chatting to you later! I'll almost certainly be on the BB200 article, so you know where to find me. :) LOL

Yeah, the former is the biggest selling song in UK history to never make the top 5.

Not heard it yet, but I have a feeling her songs won't be very good without Clean Bandit or someone like that

avatar

Piran

That's an interesting fact, but I'm not surprised to be honest.
So how long do you think Little Mix can stay at #1 for then? :)

C

chartwatcher

1

Good good :), it is okay, I think it is interesting is the word I'd use, not a bad album though in anyway, ohwell 3 is respectable enough, thanks for posting the sale's, interesting you see a decline in sale's, she left a big gap between her second and third album, though still impressive sale's mostly.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah 'interesting' is how I would describe it as well. I just wish she stayed with her pop-dance songs, but I certainly don't mind the Mark Ronson production on her new album. :)
You're welcome! I'm actually over on the BB200 (US albums chart) commenting at the moment & 'Joanne' debuted at #1 in America with around 201,000 copies sold! :D
So what are your favourite Lady Gaga songs then? ;)

C

chartwatcher

1

I know I was about to tell you that lol, how do they know already? It is 2 days to the next billboard issue I thought? And her first album was a masterpiece her second continued it, I liked all the song's from them 2 but Artpop was good enough, she just got a bit dark and deep for me in some of her later song's and it put me off a bit, but it is nice to see something more lighthearted again, keeping in the interesting factor, she never has a boring album to her credit and it has pleased me she sold this album well in the US and topped the chart yet again :).

avatar

Piran

Well the full charts usually update at the website every Tuesday, but you can find articles for the BB200's Top 10 every Sunday & the Hot 100's Top 10 every Monday. :)

hey mate!!! so sorry i kept you waiting...after my dad left, the cubs actually won that home game!! their first home game won in the world series since 1908! so all of chicago is going crazy (so far tonight, they're doing awesome 7-1 and it's in the 5th inning (2 more unless it's tied). even though i'm a yankees fan, it's awesome that a team that's struggled for over 100 yrs (literally) is doing great. if they win tonight, then the series will be tied 3-3 and a game 7 will have to take place. then it's anyone's game.

and YES!! i'm able to walk a lil' on my own (baby steps) and i've been walking around my apt (of course with my crutch) but you should've seen my dad's face! :))))! he couldn't believe it. my left big toe is healing much better and we've got to get to a doctor to examine the bone (i fractured it) but we're still waiting on the state insurance to go thru. but so far, no pain @ all! it's been a week since my fall, and there's been a lot of improvements. i'm not able to walk and stand fully on my own, but much better from last week.

so, how did it go on sunday? :D i don't have the strength to chat with everyone still...but i hope there wasn't too much drama. i don't get what the big deal is if gaga has the #1 album...there's room for everyone to succeed on bb, not just the artists you personally like. that's the way i see it. ok mate, i'm gonna finish watching the cubs game and i'd love for us to chat more on this uk article :). i can't wait to check out the u.s. artists' feats and the big selling albums over and we can compare feats and chat about them :). that's also so awesome they have elvis' feats up...i never knew it'd be a year afterwards for him to have success in the uk. ok mate, good night! thanks for all your well wishes and pls. tell everyone i said hi and i'll be back as soon as i can ;)

avatar

Piran

2

Well that's great to hear about your team winning for the first time in 108 years! I'm also very happy that you're recovering fast as well. :)
The BB200 articles on Sunday were actually much more peaceful than expected; there were still some Gaga trolls, but most of frequent Billboard commenters just ignored them & there were no big arguments at all. :D
I know that everyone will be very happy to see you back shortly & I recently sent you a post updating you on everything that's happened on the US charts over the past couple of days. Chat to you again soon! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

mate you're on :))))!!! i'll try to be on 2mor early my time. well, the cubs aren't tech. my team, they're my dad's team. but it's been forever :)))! since they've done this great (some yrs back they made it to the playoffs, but again...that curse ;D they couldn't advance)

yeah i walked around my apt about 4-5x, so we'll see how my progress goes in the coming days. and yes i read your post and thanks for updating me on everything...where will lm be next week? i got the vid @ 34,823,310!!! dang!!! all the way from 7mill.?? ok mate, i gotta go back to the cubs game, it ain't over yet and cleveland just scored another run >-< 3 more innings to go :). talk to you soon!

avatar

Piran

1

Well I'm going to be spending a few hours tomorrow working on a statistics assignment, so don't worry if I'm not on when you are. I'll definitely respond to you at some time! ;)
Unfortunately I've heard from Ines or Simm (I can't remember who) that SOTME will probably fall off the Hot 100 again next week unfortunately. I really hope that's wrong though. :O
On a positive note, Little Mix are very likely to get a 3rd week at #1 on the UK charts. Clean Bandit's new song, 'Rockabye', is a strong contender to be the next #1 over here at the moment. Either way, I'm excited for Friday when the UK charts update. Have a great day & I look forward to your next post. :)

Hopefully it won't be at no.1 longer than Black Magic, which was many times better than Shoutout To My Ex. I don't hate it, but their old stuff is better.

avatar

Piran

0

Well I think 'Rockabye' is a strong contender to be the next #1; it's nearly caught up with SOTME on iTunes & making big gains on Spotify. I think Clean Bandit are too far behind on streaming overall to overtake Little Mix for the next 2 weeks though. I see 'Shout Out To My Ex' passing 'Black Magic' for weeks at #1 (probably will get to 4 weeks) & then 'Rockabye' atop the charts. James Arthur returning to #1 is also a possibility, but SYWLG is too low on sales for that to happen at the moment.
What do you think of 'Say You Won't Let Go' & 'Rockabye' then? :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate!!! well, cubs win, cubs win ;D (popular catchphrase in baseball) they won last night in overtime! (there was a rain delay, in baseball, you don't play when it's raining or high winds, etc). the 1st time in 108 yrs!! on the chicago tribune (main chicago newspaper) website, they've been interviewing local chicagoans, local businesses whose families have been life-long cubs fans. and how past relatives never got to see the cubs go to the world series. my grandfather (he's passed on) was a life long cubs fan and same thing...the cubs never made it to the world series when he was alive.

def. a lot of celebration going on in the windy city ;). whenever a sports team wins a championship, there's usually a parade thruout the whole city and with chicago, i think the celebration will be even better for the cubs than it was for any of the other sports teams :).

well, i'm able to walk a lil' longer on my own and the swelling's gone down on my left foot. i've been practicing on my own, so hopefully within another week or so i'll walk around my whole apt. without the crutch :). for now, just short distances on my own or i'll lift up the crutch (where i'll walk on my own, but it'll be there if i need it).

sorry for the long post...but that for lm. but @ the same time they're winning over fans and that's a fresh start. they keep releasing singles over here, i'm very confident their public relations will improve and they'll do better in the u.s. music scene. look @ the dixie chicks, it took 8 long yrs to see any type of success and the success didn't come right away :). ok mate, i'll be on here for awhile, just wanted to give you some updates.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine! It's great to hear from you again. :)
Well regarding your baseball team, there's this song I found called 'Go, Cubs, Go' by Steve Goodman. It's the official victory song for the Chicago Cubs & it's currently #12 on US iTunes! :D
Lots of country songs by artists like: Little Big Town, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Maren Morris etc. made huge gains in sales after the CMAs last night. The SOTME video is currently on 37,599,932 views! Hopefully you'll also be on here tomorrow, because Little Mix are likely to get their 3rd week at #1 over here. The Billboard comments threads are good at the moment as well, but there's talk that 'Closer' (now on it's 11th week atop the Hot 100) could possibly pass 'One Sweet Day's record! :O
All I can say is that I'm incredibly happy for the success Little Mix have been getting & a Top 70 debut on the Hot 100 certainly isn't bad. I told you how hard it was for British artists to become big in the US.
I'm also very pleased to hear that you're continuing to get better & hopefully we'll see you back on every article again soon.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, there's a long time tradition @ everyone cubs home game...during the 7th inning stretch (break) harry carey (he's passed on) was the official cubs announcer for many yrs and he'd rally the cubs in singing 'take me out to the ball game' and put a hometown spin on the line 'and we'll root, root root for the cub-bies':D *supposed to be 'home team'*. and i've been commenting on some of the mlb and cubs-related sites...everyone can't stop talking about their victory! not only from the 100+ yr curse :D but the cubs were down 3-1 in the series. all cleveland needed was 1 more win to win the title. i'll say, i thought the cubs were finished! it's too hard, in any sport, to be down like that in the series, cuz then you gotta scramble just to catch up.

hey mate, my laptop needs to do some updates, so i'll be back in a lil' bit...i'd love for us to discuss more elvis, mj, etc. on the uk charts ;). i'm very interested in seeing how the big sellers over here did over there :). brb...

avatar

Piran

1

That's fine because I should be in for the next few hours (I might be away at times working on my latest assignment), but I look forward to continuing our chat when you get back. :)
Yeah the UK archives are much easier to look through than the Billboard ones, so I'll definitely tell you more about how each of those artists did over here on our charts.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, the updates didn't take too long :D. i forgot to tell you, i bought bobby brown's memoir (he was married to whitney houston and was a solo artist in the 80s) it's very good! couldn't put it down!! i read something like 200+ pages yesterday (waiting for gm 7)

what sports are big in the uk again? soccer and rubgy? nothing else?

avatar

Piran

1

Haha that was quick! My updates take so much longer than 10 minutes. ;) LOL
Yeah soccer & rugby are the main British sports. We do have other popular sports like: golf, boxing, cricket & golf, but they are big everywhere to be honest. :D
So which artists' UK chart achievements do you want to ask me about first then? :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

so wait, you guys don't have hockey??!! oh man...i can't live without my beloved blackhawks :D.

ok, i'll hop over to uk page...let's check out nsync and bsb, did they do pretty good over there?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

mate, i'm checking out bsb's uk stats...they had a #1 song there with 'drowning' and they have 16 top 10 hits!! their first 2 u.s. albums both peaked @ #2 in the uk...very interesting. cuz 'millenium' was the #1 album of the year on the 200 year end chart and went 13x plat.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah we do have hockey, but it's not as popular as it is in the US though. :)
Well I'll start with NSYNC...
They don't have any #1 over here, but they do have 6 Top 10 singles: 'I Want You Back' (#5), 'Tearin' Up My Heart' (#9), 'Bye Bye Bye' (#3), 'It's Gonna Be Me' (#9), 'Pop' (#9) & 'Girlfriend' (#2). :D
On the albums chart, they didn't perform as well unfortunately. They didn't even get a Top 10 album over here:
- NSYNC (#30)
- No Strings Attached (#14)
- Celebrity (#12)
- Greatest Hits (#96)
'No Strings Attached' & 'Celebrity' were only certified Gold here & the BPI (British equivalent of the RIAA) didn't certify 'NSYNC' or 'Greatest Hits' at all. I'm very surprised that none of their albums went platinum in my country. :/

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

what!!?? no strings attached peaked @ #14?? ! in 2000, that was the 200 chart #1 album of the year. that's very surprising!! cuz the no strings album went 6-7x plat. in just 3 mos. over here! they had that big 1st week sales boost and their fans were buying those cds and emptying their shelves each week. our 1D mates had a similar response with the 2nd album, but unfortunately the media found out about harry and tay-tay...:/

cool, let's discuss bsb...i invited jstar to our chat. in the uk, their first album (at least their official debut album over here) had 7 top 10 hits in your country. if that'd happen over here, they'd be the first group in history to achieve that and tie mj, janet and bruce springsteen for most top 10's on 1 album.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah while 'No Strings Attached' has sold nearly 13 million copies in the US, it barely managed 100,000 in the UK. I remember reading that it sold 2.4 million in it's debut week over in your country, which gave it the biggest first week sales for an album until 15 years later (when Adele's '25' opened with 3.38 million! :)
I also posted some BSB throwbacks as well in another post to you. Since we're talking about NSYNC as well, we could also discuss JT.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

ok, but i'd like to keep discussing bsb for now, well no strings i think is 11x plat. over here. did the riaa update the certification? well, nsync still has the highest first week sales for any group...and they were the first to sell 2mill+ in 1 week..nobody can take that away. the response that week was incredible! their fans were crazy in love with them, no other way to say it. too bad our 1D mates didn't have better public relations people to achieve similar results :/

avatar

Piran

1

The RIAA didn't update the certification, but there's a chance that they could do soon! There hasn't been any new RIAA certifications since Carrie Underwood got a lot of them last week.
I was saying to Jstar that, if you look at the current UK Top 100, you'll find it is nearly all dance & pop songs. Rock does fine here, but rarely makes the Top 40. Country music gets very few hits though & would be very lucky to even appear near the Top 100. :/
Oh as we've not updated each other on the WMYB video for a while, our 1D mates currently have 808,741,890. Little Mix's SOTME will catching up with it soon! ;) LOL
I was actually looking at the total sales figures for the 1D albums in the US & while they fell with each release, they've still sold nearly 25 million albums worldwide! :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

oh in my pending post *rolls eyes* i did check and 'i'll never break' peaked @ #35...not bad i still recalled the range and that was 18 yrs ago :D. well, i was very ticked :D each week when it couldn't go higher on the chart....i still think it's their best song and vid.

avatar

Piran

1

Haha yeah you generally get more pending alerts here than on Billboard for some reason! -_- LOL
I might've already asked you this, but do you have a favourite member of BSB, or did you like them all equally the same?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

i know right!! what the heck! :DDD!! well, my very fave member was kevin richardson. i had such a huge crush on him!! :)))! he's the oldest in the group and 4 yrs older than me. also, nick *the youngest* was certainly eye candy. but kevin was mine!! :)))!! their debut album was my fave album that year ;).

but basically i was just pointing out how unfair certain songs of theirs were big hits in the uk and barely made a dent on the hot 100. lemme know when you wanna discuss jt...i have his uk chart stats up in another window.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! :)
Sorry but I've got to sign off for a few hours now, though we can discuss JT later or tomorrow if you want. :D
Chat to you later! ;)

hey mate, i'm gonna sign off for now. i have to put away a finished laundry load, get lunch ready (it's 1pm over here) and my dad will be here soon...i'll try to be on later 2day and we all can discuss jt's chart feats. i'd also like to take a look @ the dixie chicks :), tlc, usher, shania and other u.s. big sellers. ok, talk to you later mate :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

hahah!! yeah i have to go too...talk to you later :)

I think this chart is very boring. You always know which song will be in Number 1. Is predictable as , and it seems that the clock has stopped a month ago. I mean, only 2 new entries in the Top 20. The charts are becoming comatose. Also, some songs spend 60+ weeks there; and they should be off the charts, as it was during the 60s through the 90s. What's the point of a song entering the charts without being re-released?

SF

Simon Flynn

2

So the vamps and kings of Lyon have enjoyed their last top 40 singles, both new failed to make it. What's the point in releasing singles anymore

What was Kings of Leon's last top 40? Supersoaker or something?

SF

I'm not sure, they all make the top 40 in sales chart, which as we all know is the more sensible chart. The 1975 will now not have top 40 singles in this stupid system of a chart. UK bands have a short chart shelf life it seems.

Well anything is better than nothing is probably their logic...... Drop a song and prepare to get conservative and cringeworthy lol.
