No Tears Left To Cry enters this chart high up. It’s one of her absolute best songs in my opinion. Also, love the Avicii tribute at #26. RIP Avicii.

Sorry for being late...
PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE STATS ARE FOR THE TOP 40

So, Calvin Harris remains at the top spot with “One Kiss” for a 2nd week, something that “Feels” “Blame” “Summer” “Under Control” and “Sweet Nothing” didn’t manage to do. It’s got a long way if it’s to match “We Found Love” however, as that spent 6 weeks at #1. It does match Dua’s “New Rules.”

#2, and the highest new entry, is Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left to Cry”. Not a fan of this one, it sounds a bit like “Fight for This Love” by Cheryl, and not in a good way!

“Nice for What” “Freaky Friday” and “Paradise” slip one place each.

NEW ENTRIES:
#2 Ariana Grande- No Tears Left to Cry
#8 Anne-Marie- 2002 (Really good, one of her best, another great song written by Ed Sheeran)
#17 J Cole- KOD (Your normal American Rapper, taking advantage of album streams)
#28 J Cole- ATM
#30 J Cole- Photograph
#34 Liam Payne- Familliar (Complete over-sexual garbadge in my opinion, but I think it’ll climb)
Talking of climbing...

HIGH CLIMBERS (Over 5 places and re-entries)
Banx and Ranx- Answerphone (18-7, up 11) (Super catchy and sure to be going up!)
EO- German (30-24, up 6) (Growing on me)
Avicii- Wake me up (26, Re-Entry) (My favourite Avicii song after “Without you”. Was hoping it to go up but it was a whole week, may he RIP)
David Guetta- Like I Do (40-32, up 8) (Awesome!!!!!)
Avicii- Levels (36, Re-Entry)
Nines- I See you Shining (!, I thought we had seen the last of this!!!)

Since Ed Sheeran fell out of it the song with the most weeks on chart is “Wake me up” (33 Wks.)

Talking of Mr. Sheeran, “Happier” is now an official single!, I want it to go top 10 again, although it’s is a tall ask for the song to do that in week 1

Next Week’s prediction...
#1 Calvin Harris- One Kiss
#2 Drake- Nice for What
#3 Ariana Grande- No Tears Left to Cry
#4 Anne-Marie- 2002
#5 Lil Dicky- Freaky Friday
#6 Banx and Ranx- Answerphone
#7 Sigala- Lullaby
#8 Post Malone- Psycho
#9 Post Malone- Rockstar
#10 Khalid- Love Lies

Oh and finally, can the OCC please scrap the rules that made this happen:
“These Days” drops 10 places
“Friends” drops 19 places
“Feel it Still” drops 19 places
This is getting stupid...

Thanks for reading!

To be honest, I wanted all of those 3 songs in the Top 10 put on ACR to drop out in a couple of weeks anyway (especially These Days), so I'm not complaining. I'm pretty sure most people have had enough of Ed by this point, no idea why they've made another single as it's doing nothing so far in streaming or downloads. I like his songs but I don't want to hear Shape Of You again for a good while.

Also, how on earth do you think Fight For This Love and No Tears Left To Cry sound similar? Just listened to both and I can't see the resemblance at all.

I don’t now about the two songs just a weird feeling (maybe it’s the vocal style)

Fun Fact: Lonely Together actually outperformed Hey Brother but as it had previously been moved to ACR Hey Brother ended up as Avicii's third single

At least 'No Tears Left to Cry" got the top spot in Ireland!

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always

- ‘One Kiss’ by Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa holds atop the singles chart for a second consecutive week. It accumulated 8.7 million streams this past week, which is the highest one-week tally since ‘Despacito’ got 8.8 million last June.

- ‘Feel It Still’ by Portugal. The Man remains at #1 on the airplay chart for a fourth non-consecutive week.

- ‘Meant To Be’ by Bebe Rexha ft Florida Georgia Line gets stuck at #11 for a fourth week in total.

- Ariana Grande has the highest debut of the week, as ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ enters the Official Chart at #2 to become her sixth Top 10 single. I knew Ariana’s comeback single was going to be highly anticipated, not only because she gained so much support from millions of Brits after One Love Manchester just under a year, but the fact that she was already a rising, talented pop diva. You would expect this to be a sombre song from the title & that’s how the song starts, but then out of nowhere we get a UK garage inspired beat which brings a more upbeat vibe to the song. Also, there’s no doubt that her soaring vocals in the chorus are incredible; she’s definitely one of the best female singers we have on the charts today! The “picking it up, picking it up” pseudo-rap part can be a little annoying, but it’s something different & it’s actually a bit cute too. I’m really happy that Ariana’s back; I had high expectations for her return & she met them!

- Anne-Marie gets her third Top 10 hit as ‘2002’ enters the chart at #8, taken from her debut album called ‘Speak Your Mind’, which was released today. So I love a lot of the songs she’s featured on, but she’s still growing on me with her just by herself. With ‘2002’, it definitely confirmed that I’ll probably become a fan of hers soon after all! It was good timing to release this now that spring is properly underway & I love how Ed Sheeran helped with the song-writing here! The hook is cleverly executed, giving references to some big throwbacks hits that were released near the year 2002, including songs from: Britney Spears, Jay-Z, Nelly & NSYNC. I also think it’s really cute how Anne-Marie reminisces crush from her early teenage years over the breezy, laidback guitar. She sounds incredible & the fun she’s having shown in her vocals, even if I think the falsetto is a little bit weak. I actually loved this song from first listen & that hasn’t happened often so far in 2018, so yeah, definitely impressed with this one!

- J Cole has three songs inside the Top 40 thanks to his surprise album being released just a week after he announced it & the highest charting of those songs is the title track, called ‘KOD’. It debuts at #17 this week & also becomes J Cole’s highest charting hit in the UK. I really had mixed thoughts going into this; I never minded his older discography too much, but just never got into it, although his last album disappointed me a little unfortunately. This is definitely an improvement, however, it’s not enough to win me over just yet. I like the way that J Cole navigates through his verses & I love his rhythmic flow on the hook. I’m impressed by the fact that this is self-produced with the contemporary trap aesthetic & the thumping bass beats. That said, the content is also the same as so many trap songs today, as he flexes towards his audience & competition in the first verse, saying that he’s the best in the game, although he does talk more about his youth & drugs in the second verse. Not a bad choice as an opening track & I’m sure it’ll become an official single eventually.

- The second J Cole we got this week is ‘ATM’, the only official single from the album so far & the only one that has a video, which is a new entry at #28. This one I like just as much, because J Cole is taking on a much faster flow in the verses, although the repetitive & boring hook ruins this as a whole a little for me. He both channels & accepts hip-hop’s current cultural climate, but on the surface is a song about a stacked net worth. However, J Cole’s delivery makes you want to look deeper into the lyrics. There might be not more I can say about this, but that’s doesn’t mean that the song isn’t good. I hope he makes more stuff like this!

- The last new entry from J Cole today is ‘Photograph’, beginning its chart run at #30. I might have given the previous two songs here from him decent reviews, but I can’t do the same for this one unfortunately. I can respect him being in a more reflective state here, tackling more philosophical themes. Unfortunately, the song itself is way more simpler than the subject matter perhaps deserves; his delivery is too laid back & that hypnotic beat just didn’t seem like a good idea to me. When there’s better tracks on that album, I’m going to be a lot more likely to listen to those, because ‘Photograph’ is mediocre at best.

- Finally, ‘Familiar’ by Liam Payne & J Balvin makes its chart debut at #34 this week. Considering he hasn’t announced any details for his debut album yet, I’m really confused about what direction he wants to go in. His debut single brought in elements of R&B/hip-hop, then he hopped on a dance track with Zedd & now he’s gone to Latin-pop. Even though this might not be the best song he’s put out, but it should still have a strong international appeal, combining Latino vibes with a summery R&B sound. I also really like how Liam’s vocals are velvety & enticing too, which makes this fit into the genre more like early 2000s Ricky Martin rather than say Justin Bieber’s verse on ‘Despacito’. However, I’m still not entirely sure if this is memorable enough to become a hit over the next few weeks; the chorus is incredibly simple & repetitive, lyrically the song is about impressing a love interest a night club (which is something Liam has already done multiple times before) & J Balvin just brings very little to this. Overall, it’s not bad, but I don’t see it getting a high replay factor from me.

- Like many other dance fans, I was shocked & saddened to hear of Avicii’s passing last Friday, aged just 28. However, I’m pleased to see the huge level of tributes that have been paid to him (including the re-entries for ‘Wake Me Up’ & ‘Levels’ in the chart today). Here are his 10 biggest hits in the UK according to the Official Chart Company:

#1: Wake Me Up (#1 peak, 2013)
#2: Hey Brother (#2 peak, 2013)
#3: Levels (#4 peak, 2011)
#4: The Nights (#6 peak, 2014)
#5: Lonely Together (#4 peak, 2017)
#6: Waiting For Love (#6 peak, 2015)
#7: I Could Be The One (#1 peak, 2013)
#8: You Make Me (#5 peak, 2013)
#9: Addicted To You (#14 peak, 2013)
#10: Seek Bromance (#13 peak, 2010)

- On the albums chart, ‘The Greatest Showman’ stays at #1 for a 14th non-consecutive week.

- The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘KOD’ by J Cole (debuts at #2), ‘Accidentally On Purpose’ by The Shires (debuts at #3), ‘Staying At Tamara’s’ by George Ezra (3-4) & ‘Crop Circle’ by Nines (debuts at #5).

- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could be entering the Top 40 for the first time: ‘No Roots’ by Alice Merton, ‘Hasta Luego’ by HRVY & Malu Trevejo, ‘Ball For Me’ by Post Malone ft Nicki Minaj, ‘Nevermind’ by Dennis Lloyd, 'Man Down' by Shakka ft AlunaGeorge & maybe even more.

- Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

I do like seeing 'One Kiss' get another week at #1 and, with those figures, I really don't see it going anywhere soon. After combined sales of around 49k in its debut week and 70k last week, it's increased a massive amount again, up to 83.5k combined sales this week (58.5k from streams and 25k from sales). 'No Tears Left To Cry' did also have an incredible debut week with over 74k combined sales (48.5k from streams and 25.5k from sales) which, if my research is correct, is the biggest debut week for any single since 'Galway Girl' also debuted at #2 on sales of 90k.

'Nice for What' sold 62k and 'Freaky Friday' sold 53.5k, marking the highest sales figures for a #4 since Ed Sheeran's 'Perfect' sold 62.5k the week of 'Ă·'s debut. And speaking of Ed, what do you think of him releasing 'Happier' as an official single? I'm really glad that he's finally done it, though I am still surprised that he didn't perform it at the BRITs a couple of months ago. I think that would've given the single the promotion it really needs to be a hit now over a year after the parent album's release. Hopefully it can return to the Top 10 with Ed's stadium tour hitting the UK next month, but without a 'Ă· (Wembley Edition)' or popular remix of the song I can't really see it beating its current peak of #6, let alone reaching #1.

I'm really glad to see '2002' debut in the Top 10. I think it's got a good chance of reaching the Top 5 next week as well, since 'Speak Your Mind' was released today and the song has been increasing on sales and streams over the past week anyway. The only thing I can see making it fall next week is if a couple of tracks from 'beerbongs & bentleys' [sic] debut in the Top 10 which, given how popular Post Malone is on streaming, is definitely possible. I think it's more likely that we'll see 'Psycho' get a boost in the Top 10 and 2 more tracks in the Top 20, though.

I'm also really glad to see 'Answerphone' surge into the Top 10, but it is really frustrating seeing 'Meant To Be' getting stuck at #11 every week! I didn't really like any of J Cole's entries, but I did like seeing Avicii's re-entries and 'Familiar' make a debut. Speak to you soon! :D

Really hope No Roots doesn't go Top 40. One of the dullest songs I have ever known, and it isn't even that new!

Hey Ted! :)
Sorry, but I have to disagree with you there. I honestly don't mind older songs like this charting have been big internationally & I love the groove to it! This is the alternative sound that the charts really need right now in my opinion.
How have you been this week anyway?

Yeah, nothing's really challenging 'One Kiss' on either sales or streaming at the moment, although 'No Tears Left To Cry' is catching up nicely on the former.
I did notice that the charts have really strong competition at the moment, notably by the fact that the sales chart has been a lot more stable near the top, as well as there are now five songs with over half a million streams on Spotify per day currently: 'One Kiss', 'Nice For What', 'Freaky Friday', 'No Tears Left To Cry' & 'Psycho', none of which are affected by ACR yet I believe.
Yeah, 'Psycho' is the only song from 'Beerbongs & Bentleys' that I see being in the next Top 10, as it's the only song from the album that has strong enough sales to go with the impressive streaming of that album. The thing is, 'The Greatest Showman' is still selling more than Post Malone's album, so it should be a close battle for #1 on the albums chart this Friday! Post Malone has 17 out of 18 songs from his new album inside the Top 40 on Spotify. If the chart rule limiting artists' appearances on the Official Chart didn't exist, I think nearly all, maybe even all, album tracks from him could've charted.
I also love seeing 'Answerphone' hit the Top 10 & it did way better than I expected! I hope 'Meant To Be' can finally get there next week, but it'll probably get hit by ACR soon, right?
I'm actually surprised at how low the Avicii songs charted; even though sales & streams dropped off for them fairly fast as expected, they were both very strong at the start of the tracking week.
By the way, my next Crown Note chart is up, so please check out when you have time!
See you soon. :)

My week's been fine, thanks! One Kiss has finally grown on me a little, I'm not into Dua's vocals too much but I am appreciating Calvin's production more now. It's been a while since a Deep House/Garage track has done well in the UK charts, and I'm surprised that I didn't like this song at first considering I'm a massive fan of other garage and house acts like Disclosure and Duke Dumont. Hopefully this paves the way for a resurgence in the genre, once again, as trap and rap music is starting to sound a little samey to me now.

I'm still frustrated that Meant To Be hasn't reached the Top 10! I didn't expect 2002 to be this big from the start. Overall, I think 2002 is quite catchy, but I still prefer Meant To Be. My main problem with it is that none of the songs mentioned in the hook are actually from 2002, a bit nitpicky I know, but it's gotten on my nerves ever since I realised it! You can also definitely tell Ed Sheeran wrote it. I've personally had enough of him now, he's had a successful 2017 and I want him to leave it at that for a while before I get really bored of him.

This week, I'm expecting Psycho to maybe hit a new peak thanks to the release of Beerbongs And Bentleys, as well as 2 new entries from the album. I'm hoping Flames and I Like It to rise a few places, as both are improving on downloads and streams. One Kiss will be the likely #1, as No Tears Left To Cry has actually decreased in streams and is now behind Freaky Friday at #4.

Other than that I'm not expecting much change- but I am very hyped for Jess Glynne's new single, I'll Be There. From a short preview on her Instagram, it sounds like she hasn't changed her sound from her 1st album, which I loved, so I'm happy to see more of the same from her. She's done a good job of staying relevant since I Cry When I Laugh, so I'm hoping it can go straight in at #1 when it's released (May 4th is looking likely).

I'm glad 'One Kiss' is growing on you, however I like think I like it more because of how well Dua Lipa's vocals fit the track over Calvin Harris' production, although the latter is growing on me too.
I agree that I hope dance makes a comeback this summer, as I think rap & trap have been really overrated on the charts recently in my opinion. It's nice to see a bit more variety near the top at the moment.
I think '2002' is really catchy too & I think it might even climb into the Top 5 next week thanks to 'Speak Your Mind' being released, but yeah, while the hook is clever, it would've been good if she referenced songs that were actually released that year (although some of them were still big around then).
I really hope Jess Glynne continues in the same direction as she did with 'I Cry When I Laugh' & who knows, she could be getting her seventh #1 single in a couple of weeks from now! :D

Yeah, I noticed that the top of the charts has been really strong at the moment. Usually around 50k combined sales would get you to #1, but that's around what the #4 sold this week! You also usually only need around 500k streams to top Spotify UK, but, as you mentioned, 5 songs are getting over that currently! 'Psycho' would've been affected by ACR next week, but since it'll get a big boost it'll manage to avoid it. The other songs that you mentioned aren't old enough yet to get hit.
I can see 'Psycho' climbing to #5 or #6 next week, 'Better Now' entering in the #10 - #15 range and 'Paranoid' entering in the #18 - #23 range. I do think that 'beerbongs & bentleys' will be a pretty strong #1 next week, though. It's currently set to enter with the 3rd highest streaming debut for an album ever (behind 'Ă·' and 'More Life', of course)! 'Ă·' sold 79k on streams, while 'More Life' got 36.5k. 'Gang Signs and Prayer' is the current #3 with 20.5k, and #4 is 'Revival' which got 19.5k. 'beerbongs & bentleys' will likely debut in the 20k - 30k range for streams, plus another 15k - 25k for sales, for an easy #1.
What surprised me more than anything is how little attention 'Speak Your Mind' got. It's pretty unfortunate for Anne-Marie that Post Malone released his album on the same day as hers since she's been pretty much completely overshadowed. Her current 2 hits got a bit of a boost, but still fell down the Spotify charts because of Post's tracks. She only had 4 other tracks in the Top 200, and only 1 other in the Top 100 at #79. I had expected 'Speak Your Mind' to beat 'beerbongs & bentleys' on downloads, but that's not happening either. I still think she'll beat him on physical, though. While I'm pretty confident of the #1 next week, I think it'll be interesting to see whether 'Speak Your Mind' or 'The Greatest Showman' can be #2.
What do you think of 'Speak Your Mind' and 'beerbongs & bentleys', by the way? I really like both of them. I feel like 'Speak Your Mind's best songs are better than the best on 'beerbongs & bentleys', but the worst on 'Speak Your Mind' is also much worse than the worst on 'beerbongs & bentleys' as the latter manages to keep a much more consistent quality. I'd give them both an 8/10 for now. I'm considering doing mini-reviews of them both next week where I just give my overall thoughts of the album and my rating of each track, rather than going over each track and my thoughts on them individually.
