After some help finding an artist.
Saw a video the other day, can't remember what channel on tv, there was a young woman with blue hair coming out of a display that looks like Night at the Museum, I can only remember the word "Stay" in the title and I think the artist began with a "T"..... Can anyone help? TIA

tell me something good is awful. i think it’s one of the worst songs i’ve heard this year. i literally thought my ears were bleeding when i heard it lol. anyways, how has everyone’s weekend been? hoping alone with you climbs!

Absolute facts, still better than most EDM this year though. 🥱

Can't believe the amazing new single by Kylie and Years&Years "a second to midnight" didn't crack the top 100...shameless, on the other hand, so happy to see Grace Davies first top 100 entrance with Roots, being she all alone on promoting and sharing her music

So glad to see Grace Davies with roots finally in the official chart's she deserves its taken 4 years and no label as a independent artist her fan base got her here and now many more to come. Congratulations Grace.

And to all those that want to see Dance Monkey go, they'll have to wait at least a week because it's still hanging on at 100. But you have to appreciate the fact that this song has been held down on the charts since 2019. I also recommend checking other songs from Tones and I for those who hated Dance Monkey. She's a really talented artist and there's so much to her other than this song

Love Tonight goes to the top 20. I already looked this song, but the Robin Schulz remix just makes me love it more. Such nice stuff 😁

Well. Jesy Nelson has done well to get to number 4 with Boyz. It is dreadful! Why is she singing with that horrible voice in the verses? And the lyrics!! Lol! Sorry Jesy but you need to go back to the drawing board. Nice to see Elton and Dua at number 1. Interested to see how Maneskin do with their new song Mammamia. Could be a slow burn like their previous hit Beggin?

Easy On Me - Adele doing Adele, doing what Adele does. If you like what's come before, you'll love it. If you want a little variety, then perhaps the album might have it. That said, 33M Youtube Views in 20 hours? Most streamed song on Spotify in history for one day? (according to Wiki). Fair to say quite a bit of on interest in it. Be fascinating to see if it can close to 259K paid sales of Hello (wk1) in this day and age.

Boyz - There are some curious choices made here. And it seems not many have landed perhaps as intended.

Cold Heart - It's effectively a Megamix, isn't it? But the combination of canny mixing, guest current superstars, classic songs most know, and a video making the most of the concept is a superb bit of marketing approach. Given the dancefloor friendly groove, and Christmas coming, a bigger seller this way comes. Gotta give it to Elton, that's how you maintain a career presence. Will we ever see that again?

My chart review:

🔴 Bad:
1) Drive falls. It's such a great song at I'm really annoyed that it didn't get past 33.
2) rumors falls again. It's my favourite rap collaboration of 2021.
3) Friday isn't in the chart.
4) meet me at our spot climbs. It's just the genre of rock that I hate as a whole so nothing personal towards the Song.

💛 Medium:
1)I guess I'm in love is still in the top forty; however, it's falling so I'm happy about that.
2) alone with you and life goes are both on the charts. They are both alright songs and I think life goes on has potential to climb.

🍏 Good
1) cold heart number 1. I've said alot about it already but it's a great song and I think Dua deserved it so much.
2) love tonight getting into the top 20. It's so great to see EDM songs doing well in the charts again.
3) happier than ever falls, which is pleasing because I think the vocals aren't great in it.
4)Boyz is the highest new entry. It's really growing on me even though it sounds like it was from sometime around 2005 and Nicki Minaj barely says anything.
5) Tell me something good finally gets into the top 40. It's another great advert for EDM
6) Dance monkey hanging in the top 100
7) Driver's license not in the chart

Just proves how streaming is to blame for making a very stagnant top 100.
There are quite a few singles which have been inside the top 100 for at least a year.
This prevents new material to come along.
This would never have happened in a physical format age because typically once someone's bought the single it peaks within a few weeks and drops away a few weeks later meaning new singles came into the chart keeping it fresh and active.
But because fans now use Spotify for example as their player it causes songs to stay in the charts for many months sometimes over a year, and in one or two cases 2 years.
This is very very sad to me.
Just browse the charts and see how many weeks each single has been over 52 weeks and you will be shocked, or I was anyway.

Fantastic to see Grace Davies get into the official Top 100. As an independent artist with no PR machine or record label to promote her, she thoroughly deserves more exposure than she is getting. C’mon BBC and other radio stations, get her on your stations playlists. She can’t offer free drinks at a record label bash but she can offer true talent.

Combined sales for the Top 10:

2) Ed Sheeran - 'Shivers’ (59,865)
3) CKay - 'love nwantiti (ah ah ah)’ (37,031)
4) Jesy Nelson ft. Nicki Minaj - 'Boyz’ (34,693)

No, I mean “combined sales” as in physical purchases, digital downloads & their streaming equivalents. :)

WEEKLY CHART REVIEW (15/10/2021 – 21/10/2021)

🔴 (Negative)

1) ‘Boyz’ inevitably ends up as the new entry of the week, inside the Top 3! Man, I really like Jesy Nelson in general as a singer, but this kind of song just doesn’t work for her, at all. The thing is, I’m not all surprised that she decided to go solo, since she recently revealed in interviews how out of place she felt compared to the other Little Mix girls despite all the support that they gave her, but I’ve always thought of her as the member who always brought the most swagger & sass to the group’s singles! Here, for a song that’s meant to be attracting a rebellious guy, her vocals sound incredibly thin & weak in the verses, while the hook feels way too overcompressed & monotonic for it to sound anywhere close to flirty or enticing. The verse from Nicki sounds so phoned in too, to the point where I don’t remember any of it literally by the end of the song hardly a minute later! Again, Jesy absolutely doesn’t deserve all the hate she’s been getting on social media about her appearance or straying away from Jade, Leigh-Anne & Perrie, but for as much as I respect her as a person for having to put with all of that abuse for years, if she keeps releasing songs as dated & derivative as this, then the hype isn’t going to last! We saw it happen with ZAYN a few years ago, I really don’t want to see the same thing with Jesy. :/

2) Radio 1 continue to choose the same songs to play & they really disappointed me again! Seriously, the first one makes me sad for personal reasons (‘I Guess I’m In Love’) & the two that followed give me a splitting headache (‘Bad Day’ & ‘Life Goes On’).

3) ‘Wid It’ drops out of the Top 40 this week! I don’t get why this soured on so many people so fast, but ‘Wasted’ has completely stabilised.

🟠 (Mixed)

1) Arz gained a few places with ‘Alone With You’! It’s growing on me slightly, but whenever I hear this, I’m always reminded of how underrated ‘Hostage’ (the Billie Eilish song that it samples) is.

2) ‘Clash’ is the biggest ACR victim this week! Two of my favourite British rappers feature on this, but it still had a very good run, so I’m not too disheartened about it leaving.

🟢 (Positive)

1) I already wrote a completely separate post about this, but ‘Cold Heart’ as the new #1 single is so good to see that it has to be mentioned twice! It’s really satisfying seeing an older artist still being able to top this chart in an era dominated by streaming & while I’ll always be disappointed inside that Dua Lipa never got here with a song from ‘Future Nostalgia’, this at least mostly makes up for it.

2) Relating to the above point, Ed Sheeran’s 15 consecutive weeks at #1 are finally over! Again, I don’t even mind either of the songs he’s recently been at the top with, but seeing the same artist at the top of the charts for this long was always going to get boring, no matter who it is.

3) ‘Love Tonight’ enters the Top 20! This definitely stands out in terms of EDM hits that we’ve had in 2021, whether it’s the original or any of the remixes by some of those, massive DJs, e.g. David Guetta, Robin Schulz, etc.

4) ‘Meet Me At Our Spot’ also entered the Top 20 this week, continuing an incredibly successful year for rock or at the very least rock-influenced music! Willow’s & Tyler Cole’s vocals are an amazing fir for one another, so it’s awesome that Radio 1 are all over this right now.

5) Despite being narrowly denied a place in the region last week, ‘Tell Me Something Good’ has finally broken into the Top 40! The soulful vocals from Chaka Khan’s original version were always going to be a massive selling point for me, but I particularly love how it’s juxtaposed over the bubbling, rolling bass. I’m not sure how I feel about the sharp stabs of the rave synths in places, but they’re yet another feature of the production that really ramps up the energy behind this without taking away much of the funkiness from the song of the same name from 37 years ago! Older listeners or those who aren’t into EDM very much might not feel that this take on it does the original 1974 hit any justice, but to everyone else, it’s a lot of fun & I’d highly recommend it.

6) ‘Seventeen Going Under’ goes Top 40 thanks to the album boost! Honestly, Sam Fender sounds absolutely incredible here & the instrumentation that he’s belting over makes his voice even more impressive. Glad that he finally makes the region for the first time in his career!

7) Speaking of which, the parent album for the same name easily debuts at #1 on the albums chart! I actually haven’t ‘Seventeen Going Under’ in full yet, but I’ve either liked or loved every track from it that’s been getting at least some airplay, so that has to be a promising sign, right?

8) I’ll save my full commentary on this until next week, but man, the nearly six years we’ve been waiting for Adele to release new music was definitely worth it! I don’t think ‘Easy On Me’ is her strongest of lead singles by any means & I think it would’ve worked better as an album closer (which is very unlikely for the first song to be officially released from it), but it still has all the classic features of an Adele ballad that we all know & love, so I’m really glad that we’re continuing to hear that side of her in this. Probably a light 9/10 & that’s not even after 24 hours yet, so expect that score to go up before next Friday!

Great review! I’m also very glad about Cold Heart dethroning Ed, although I disagree about Alone With You, because it’s a terrible song and it’s abusing an amazing Billie song for fame.

I’m also very glad Clash is on ACR, hope Wasted follows pretty soon.

*Piran...this reply belongs to your personal chart, somehow I couldn´t upload it in the Crownnote..

And here I am...Piran!! Yes with your chart this week!!! pleasant surprises, huh? so glad to see "Didn't Make It" still one more week at the top, and then gladly surprised to see the big leap of Diplo, Paul Woolford, Kareen Lomax - "Promises" at # 2!!! then Maisie Peters - "Villain" growing by bits, but growing! and new this week Charlie South - "Get Up" , great!! and at "Drive" at # 5 , I love your top 5!! I admire your taste inmusic, I am a followere of yours!! thanks for keeping "Don´t shut me down" for at least one more week, it is still in my preferred ones thou the world didn´t admire it much, "Risk it all" and "Where are you now" in your top 20...exquisite!! "Heartbreak Anthem" and "Love Nwantiti" still in my toplist, love both songs along with Shouse´s "Love tonite" also am glad with your 3 re-entries and your 3 new entries!!! they all are amongst my favorite songs this year. About "Easy on me"...I think is a lovely song, it has the same recipe as "Hello", same intro and pitch as in "All I ask", and the same feeling as in "Someone like you" ...hope to see it in your chart next week, would you?...have you heard Coldplay´s "Coloratura"? the song was released in July, but the album was released yesterday... I saw "Love in the Dark" by Adele in the Singles chart .. that song didn´t chart 6 years ago...what made it chart now, and be acompanied by 2 re-entries ? (Not asking you to answer me, just expressing my concern and surprise, thou I would like to hear your opinion) your throwbacks of the week.. just great!! I would like to recommend "I´m in the mood for dancing" by the Nolan sisters from 1979 or "Love´s grown deep" by Kenny Nolan from 1977, and Ann Murray´s "Shadows in the moonlight" I´ll be waiting for your remarks in my answer to your chart! 😄

Hey Gerardo! :)

Sorry if this reply a little short, but it’s because I’m on mobile rather than desktop currently.

I’m glad that you loved my chart as much as you did this week, especially the comments on every song in the Top 5!

As for next week, ‘Easy On Me’ is currently leading in my early predictions, but ‘Promises’ & ‘Didn’t Make It’ are still challenging it! If Adele can get to the top of my next personal chart, it’ll be her sixth #1 single overall (& her first since I got Crown Note in November 2016).

Regarding the new Coldplay album, ‘Let Somebody Go’ is the current standout for me, although ‘Coloratura’ is a very close second!

Thanks for your comments as usual.

Have a nice week!

Piran

Hey Ethan! :)

19 upvotes, that looks a lil bit suspicious...

aaanyways, what’s your opinion on coloratura by coldplay? 10 minutes of f**king beauty and probably the best thing they’ve done, even better than speed of sound and viva la vida. reminds me so much of pink floyd. easily a 10/10!

Yeah, I hope her future singles are better. :/

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Coolocelot! :)

Not really! Most, maybe even all of my chart reviews, have been getting somewhere around the region of 15-20 upvotes each week, but it could be that we had more people look at this chart than others because of the new #1.

As for ‘Coloratura’, I absolutely love it, especially when it’s something so unique for Coldplay!

‘Let Somebody Go’ with Selena Gomez was another track from the album that I thought was awesome.

Hi Piran, a question. There are so many versions of Love Nwantiti... which version is usually played by UK radio stations? Are all the streams and sales of all versions added up to count towards the charts? Thank you.

Hey Zoltan! :)

I think the original solo version, as well as the remix with Joeboy & Kuame Eugene are the ones that get the most radio airplay over here, but all versions of it count towards the charts.

It’s so refreshing to see not only a global music icon back at #1 in the singles chart, but he’s also accompanied by genuinely one of the brightest & freshest talents in pop music of the past few years in my opinion, all with an amazingly groovy & upbeat disco anthem to boot.
