The number one in the Physical Singles chart AND the Vinyl Singles chart is David Bowie with sound and vision. However, it does not appear at all (!) in the Top 100 singles chart. So basically all of us who go out and buy records do not make even a tiny dent on the charts. It looks like you are now basing your charts primarily on free downloads which in my opinion means your charts have lost their validity. poor show guys!

Leann Rimes cd 'Remnants' is pop and jazz. Leann is a wonderful song writer as again proven in this cd,.

Ed Sheeran? give me Tom Odell anytime.
I just can`t get it with Ed Sheeran, the word "boring" does not suffice!
I love Tom Odell`s music, along with George Ezra, Sam Smith, John Newman,
Canada`s Shaun Mendes, but not Ed Sheeran.
Nathan Sykes is brilliant, Robbie Williams has still got it.
If you have not listened to Long Way Down the Number 1 album by Tom Odell
or his brilliant Wrong Crowd cd, UK Number 2, do so immediately. Watch him on You-tube.

"Chained To The Rhythm" by Katy Perry (feat Skip Marley) is my favorite song at the moment. Can't get enough of it. I hope it makes its way to the charts next week.

Ed Sheeran has set a new Official UK Singles Chart record this week. He has now held the Top 2 positions on the chart for five consecutive weeks, with "Shape Of You" at number 1 and "Castle On The Hill" at number 2. The previous record holder was Justin Bieber who held the Top 2 positions with "Sorry" and "Love Yourself" for four consecutive weeks in November/ December, 2015. I personally feel "Castle On The Hill" is a better song, but "Shape Of You" has a better video.

"You Don't Know Me" by Jax Jones (feat RAYE) remains at number 3 this week. RAYE (whose real name is Rachel Keen) was short-listed for BBC Music Sound of... award for 2017 and finished in third place.

"Big For Your Boot" by Stormzy debuts at number 8 this week. The song is the first single from his highly anticipated debut album "Gang Signs & Prayer".

"No Favors" by Big Sean (feat Eminem) debuts at number 56.

Ups and downs time guys.

Ups:
Be The One in the top 10. Guess that's a good thing.
Rockabye out of the top 10. Yeah, I'm clutching at straws this week, it was all terrible.
Side To Side out of the top 40. Finally. Finally.

Downs:
SAME TOP 4. Instant down. Shape Of You needs to come off very soon
That talentless narcissist Stormzy hits the top 1 while Imagine Dragons' new song doesn't even hit the top 40. BULLS**T. Normally I would be like 'WHADDA FIX' but Stormzy ain't mainstream, so... I guess not. It's good he's finally learned how to use choruses in his songs.
Dua Lipa has THREE songs in the top 20, ironically, the best of those ain't with anyone else. The worst however is Scared To Be Lonely, and that's Martin Garrix's fault. He needs to revert back to his old style, future bass .
Train's new song... WTF. Obviously they would have no hope with a rock song, but still, I'd choose Play That Song over Hey Soul SIster any day.

Oh and IDWLF in the top 10 will be a down, lacks substance.

Bad: #24, #27 & #32.
Awful: #8 & #31.

You don't like You Want Me? I don't either, I'm surprised you dislike it though, why exactly?

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, Tinie Tempah is good, but 'Text From Your Ex' disappointed me a bit. The radio version is much longer than one minute though...

avatar

Piran

0

It's not terrible, but it got old fast; the rapping isn't that good. :/

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

It's really repetitive, the breathy noises are annoying and maybe this is a stupid reason but Tom Zanetti looks extremely punchable in the face.

avatar

Piran

0

Oh yeah, I don't like for all of those reasons too! LOL
In other news, Katy Perry's new single really seems to be underperforming; down to #7 on iTunes already. At this rate, I'm not sure if it'll even debut in the Top 20. The Grammys performance later might save it, but not by much. :/

I haven't done a review for a couple of weeks but I'm doing one today.
-Firstly, congratulations to Ed Sheeran for five weeks at both one and two with Shape Of You and Castle On The Hill- neither have shown any signs of dropping from those positions in the last couple of weeks, as I knew they wouldnt- Ed Sheeran's return was always going to be massive especially after the massive success of X.
-However, he will receive competition next week. Firstly, Katy Perry's new song Chained To The Rhythm sounds pretty good at first listen, and she's entered into the top 15 on Spotify and top 5 on iTunes in the last day, so she will prove stiff competition I'm sure. Also, the release of Rag'N'Bone Man's new album has led to Human climbing on iTunes and Spotify- it is currently no2 on the former- ahead of castle on the hill! I cant say I'm a fan of the song- but it may still challenge Ed at least to 2 if not 1.
-3 new songs entered into the top 10 today, something which has been somewhat of a rarity in recent times bar the legendary week Ed Sheeran, Jax Jones, Starley and JP Cooper all hit the top 10 in the same week! ;)
-One of those was Big For Your Boots by Stormzy which enters the top 10 at first attempt. One thing ive found out in the last few days is that Stormzy's girlfriend features in the video- and she works at Trending Live on 4Music!
-And I'm happy that I Don't wanna Live forever by Zayn and Taylor Swift finally entered the top 10 as the film nears release to cinemas. The motion picture soundtrack also came out yesterday so the song will only get bigger along with songs by Sia and Halsey.
-Although No lie's fall in downloads led to it leaving the top 10, Dua Lipa entered the top 10 with Be The One this week, over a year after its original release. Well done to her for reaching the top 10 in the end though!
-Dua also took a large climb with her Martin Garrix collaboration Scared To Be Lonely, from 23-14. Although this track is in the top 10 for neither iTunes nor Spotify at the moment, it could be her third top 10 in as many weeks next week.
-Sage The Gemini also took a climb to reach his peak position of 17 with Now And Later. Although it looks unlikely to hit any higher a position, well done to him for reaching the top 20 with this song!
-And the highest climb in the top 40 today was a jump of 10 places, tied between Text From Your Ex and Don't Leave- both songs have taken a while to gain momentum but it looks as if both will now.
-I like both of the other new entries to the top 40, Train's Play That Song and James Arthur's Safe Inside. There isn't many songs of this kind reaching the charts these days, so I'm happy these made the top 40.
-Just outside the top 40, Believer by Imagine Dragons entered at 42. I haven't heard it yet but I'm not a fan of rock so I'm not sure I will like it. One song I do hope hits the top 40 though is Martin Jensen's Solo Dance. I am a big fan of dance music and I think this song is amazing- so I'm glad it looks likely to hit the top 40 next week.
-Two other songs I'm glad to see climbing the top 100 are Julia Michaels' Issues and AJR's Weak. The latter reminds me very much of Twenty One Pilots' hit Stressed Out from 2016. I loved that song and I really like Weak too, although not quite as much.
-It looks as if M.O's Not In Love has missed its chance to hit the top 40 which is disappointing, but to hit 42 is great for a little known girl group with only one top 40 hit to their name.
-I havent heard the new Ariana Grande & John Legend, Big Sean or London Grammar songs yet, but having so many new entries is great!
-It's disappointing Zara Larsson fell so much with So Good as I'm a big fan of hers, but I'm sure it will climb again as all her other hits started low and climbed to become hits. And it already has a music video, something her last hit I Would Like has never managed, so that should help it climb the charts. She revealed that the album would be called So Good recently and it will be out maybe as early as March, so I'm excited for that!
-And its great that Bebe Rexha is climbing with her song I Got You, as I'm a big fan of the song and am glad that it has done what No Broken Hearts failed to do and hit the top 100! I really hope it climbs in the coming weeks and hopefully hits the top 40!
-One song I hope hits the top 100 soon is Kris Kross Amsterdam & Conor Maynard's Are You Sure?. I noticed that it hit the iTunes top 100 today and was 83 on Spotify a few days ago, so it is hopefully gaining enough momentum to hit the charts eventually. I really hope it does!
-Also, I'm sad Digital Farm Animals and Hailee Steinfeld's Digital Love failed to reach the top 100 today as I love the song and I love Hailee's voice- ive loved all her releases thus far!
-Finally, I have been eagerly waiting for Major Lazer's new album for a few weeks now. It was meant to come out in January but its now mid-February and its yet to be released! the reason I'm so excited for it is that its meant to have at least one maybe two songs featuring Camila Cabello on it! I am a massive fan of hers so am eagerly anticipating those tracks, along with her solo release Love Incredible which I heard on a leaked YouTube video a couple of weeks ago, and which sounds- you guessed it- incredible! ;) So I'm looking forward to that!
Thank you for reading my review! ;) :D

Hey Calum! Awesome review. :)
I completely agree with you regarding the second to last point; expect 'Digital Love' to be a big contender for #1 in my personal charts for the week after next! :D
I haven't checked out 'Weak' yet, but if it sounds similar to 'Stressed Out', then I don't think I'm going to like it that much. :/

hey what's up everybody!! how are all my uk mates doing? ;) ok, for this week's throwback i've picked a uk solo artist that has actually had 2 top 10 hits! very rare feat for most uk acts...i'll have them up in a sec ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

ok, so let's take a look @ ellie goudling's 2 top 10 hits on the hot 100 chart:

1. 'lights' enters on 1/14/2012 @ #99-92-87-84-80-83-79-84-85-78-68-65-66-62-60-54-49-40-35-26-22-17-14-13-12-6-6-5-5-4-5-2 *final peak, whew!*. single will remain in the top 10 for about 3 mos., becomes #5 song of the year on the bb hot 100 year-end chart and will go an incredible 5x plat.! *5 million*

and when i said 'whew'! i meant it :D ok, so debuting @ #99 is always chancey...can fall right off the chart the following week. and then a very slow and long climb up and down the bottom bracket of the chart for about 18 wks before cracking the top 40.

some very good jumps up inside the top 40 and become an instant top 20 hit! jumps right outside the top 5 and remains a top 10 hit for about 3 mos....so, def. becoming a big hit and one of the 5 most successful u.s. singles of the year. but wait, she ain't done yet ;). @ the time, ellie would be stuck behind carly rae jepsen's 'call me maybe' a huge #1 smash in the u.s. so a #2 peak is always great :)

avatar

Piran

1

Ellie Goulding... cool choice! ;)
I remember seeing her live just before she became famous outside of the UK. Her first major hit over here was 'Starry Eyed' & then she released a really good cover of 'Your Song' by Elton John shortly afterwards.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

mate you're not gonna believe this: i had her 2nd top 10 throwback ready and then i got the 'error' >-< ok, so i'll re-post it, but i'll have to keep breaking it up. i'll let you know when it's finally done. i'm so mad! :D

yeah i had to keep your ar$e in suspense :D esp. with the long chart run her 1st top 10 hit had, but @ least it didn't fall down the chart, right?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

ellie goulding hot 100 feats cont'd.:

2. 'love me like you do' enters on 1/24/2015 @ #45-36-20-14-9-6-3 *final peak and stuck behind #1 song of the year 'uptown funk' and #2 song of the year 'thinking out loud'*. single will spend 3 1/2 mos. in the top 10 and becomes the #13 song of the year on the hot 100 year-end charts. & will go 2x plat.

ok, so a much better response this time around in the debut week, right outside the top 40 ;). *top 40 is always steady radio airplay, the higher up in the top 40 esp. the 1st week, the radio airplay increases, always a great sign*

and it seems like u.s. radio is really liking the single as it makes 2 quick jumps into the top 20 and then 2 more to crack the top 10. and the final peak @ #3 is a great accomplishment for this time period: she basically sailed past 96 other songs to stay put @ #3 when the top 2 spots were locked for many wks.

so, 2 fantastic chart runs for both of ellie's top 10 hits...now let's take a look @ her top 10 u.s. albums :)

avatar

Piran

1

Well I had no idea that 'Lights' took 32 weeks to reach it's peak position on the Hot 100! :)
All of that longevity is probably why it made the Top 5 of the Chart Of The Year for 2012 then. :D
I saw that Part 2 of your post only had the first part go up, so I'll check that again in a few minutes! :P LOL

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok mate, i have the 2nd top 10 hit up...oh man, i was about to yell @ this computer :D but yeah, i was very surprised how long the first top 10 hit took just to crack the top 40. but from what i recall of the ed throwbacks, i think 'thinking out loud' had the same initial response.

believe me, it's happened many times before...sometimes the songs/albums @ the bottom of the charts can end up being the biggest successes. remember the dixie chicks 'wide open spaces' album? ;) the album spent something like 8 mos. on the bottom 100 spots of the 200 chart and then goes 12x plat :D

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, over here, 'Thinking Out Loud' has the record for the longest ever climb to #1; it did on its 19th week on the Official Charts! :)
Is your second post up yet then?

avatar

Techfan

1

That was one song that took it's sweet time to climb to its peak. ;) I just found that it had the second longest climb to the Top 5 at 29 weeks, right behind Amazed and tied with Bohemian Rhapsody and Macarena.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

here in the states, ellie goulding has had 2 top 10 albums:

1. 'halycon' enters on 10/27/2012 @ #9, spends 1 wk in the top 10 and will spend about 6 mos. on the chart. album will go gold *500k*.

2. 'delirium' enters on 11/28/2015 @ #3! spends 1 wk in the top 10 and about 7 1/2 mos. on the chart.

ok, so with the 1st album, good 1st week sales and and streaming, but unable to compete with the rest of the top 10 the following week. *the following week, we have 5 top 10 debuts simultaneously*. so, the album is selling for a good 6 mos. but unable to compete with the rest of the competition.

for the 2nd album a good debut @ #3, but just shows how immensely competitive the u.s. music scene really is. spending 7 1/2 mos. on the chart is also good. album is unable to reach gold status though.

but overall ellie has earned: 3 multi. plat singles (lights-5x plat, burn-3x plat, love me like you do-2x plat.), 2 additional plat. singles: 'on my mind' and 'anything can happen' and 1 gold album 'halycon'. so, great u.s. achievements for ellie! i would recommend more pop songs to be able to compete with the u.s. mainstream market though, but congrats to her on all her u.s. success!

Interesting to note that Earned It (Fifty Shades Of Grey) had started its Hot 100 run a couple of weeks before LMLYD's debut and took longer to reach the Top 10 and also its #3 peak, but ultimately it outlasted it and became the greater hit, ending up #9 in the 2015 Year-End Hot 100. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah this run here was much quicker up the chart and guess who were the top 2 spots? ;D so, actually she had the best climb up the chart the week she peaked @ #3, in my honest opinion.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i know right! took me forever to see anything beyond top 40 activity :D but i was telling piran that sometimes the songs/albums floating @ the bottom can be the surprise mega hits. for example, the dixie chicks' 'wide open spaces' spent a good 8 mos. just in the bottom 100 spots. and then look what happened :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah sorry mate, i got her 2 top 10 albums' chart runs up...i'm all done :D. she even had more success over here than i originally thought ;) i didn't know she had 3 multi-plat. singles here :)

avatar

Piran

1

I definitely loved both albums, but probably her former a bit more! :)
Do you think that she'll debut even higher on the BB200 with her next album then?

avatar

Piran

1

I didn't know that Ellie had 3 multi-platinum singles in the US either, but it's awesome that 'Love Me Like You Do' has been certified 5x platinum by the RIAA! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

it depends on her competition...but i'm surprised her label *for the halycon album* didn't pay more attn. to the bb charts during that time. cuz even for the week she debuted, there were 7 top 10 album debuts! i might've double checked on any upcoming releases and pick a week when the top 10 won't be jam-packed with new releases.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, she's right behind adele's 'hello' @ 7x plat. so, that's a pretty good feat! oh guess what i'm listening to? the dixie chicks wide open spaces album :). still sounds great from start to finish :)

I think 'Hello' has the potential to go Diamond eventually though; that had massive sales & YouTube. :)

See you later Sunshine Gal! ;)

avatar

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…
- Ed Sheeran earns a fifth consecutive week at #1 on the singles chart with ‘Shape Of You’. I like the tropical inspiration to this song, which certainly makes it catchy & fun, but Ed has released better songs before & I can see this getting overplayed very soon. ‘Shape Of You’ leads both the sales & streaming charts for a fifth week & the airplay charts for a third.
- With ‘Castle On The Hill’ remaining at #2, Ed Sheeran sets a new Official Charts record; he passes Justin Bieber for the most weeks that an artist has occupied the Top 2 spots. The former artist has now been at #1 with ‘Shape Of You’ & #2 with ‘Castle On The Hill’ for the past five weeks.
- ‘Big For Your Boots’ by Stormzy is this week’s highest debut, entering the Official Charts at #8 & becoming his second Top 10 appearance after ‘Shut Up’ (also peaking at #8 on the 21/12/2015 chart after a campaign for Christmas #1). I’ll say that even though I hate his genre of rap (to the exception of Wiley), I really liked ‘Shut Up’. Although, I can’t stand ‘Big For Your Boots’ at all, with terrible production & aggressive lyrics. Unfortunately, a decent flow couldn’t stop me from hating this song. I hope it doesn’t stick around for long.
- Our second of three new arrivals into the Top 10 is ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’ by ZAYN & Taylor Swift, ascending 13-9 in its ninth week in the Top 100. It becomes ZAYN’s second Top 10 as a solo artist (he had 11 more with 1D) & Taylor’s ninth. I’m a huge fan of the latter artist here, so of course I’m happy to see this keep climbing. ZAYN delivers a good falsetto & Taylor’s upper range vocals work well here too. If I had to criticise it for anything, I would say that the song doesn’t really suit a movie like ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ that well, but overall, I’m very impressed!
- A week after earning her first Top 10 hit last week with ‘No Lie’, Dua Lipa gets her second (first as lead artist) with ‘Be The One’, rising 11-10. I love the beat to this & Dua’s vocals here are so much better than some of her other previous hits. I actually knew about this song since late 2015 & even though it’s been over a year since the song’s original release, it was definitely worth the wait to see it reach the Top 10.
- Below the Top 10, some of the biggest climbers are: ‘Scared To Be Lonely’ by Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa (23-14), ‘Text From Your Ex’ by Tinie Tempah ft Tinashe (34-24) & ‘Don’t Leave’ by Snakehips & MO (39-29). In order: the first is great, the second is meh & the third is decent.
- Meanwhile, ‘Play That Song’ by Train leaps 47-25 this week. I much prefer: ‘Drops Of Jupiter’, ‘Hey, Soul Sister’ & ‘Drive By’ to this, but I have mixed thoughts on ‘Play That Song’; the trumpets in the hook make this a feel-good anthem, but Pat Monahan’s vocals aren’t great here.
- ‘Safe Inside’ by James Arthur also enters the Top 40 by jumping 49-34 after its debut last week. It acts as the follow-up to the huge former #1 ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ & I prefer this new song even more; great message & awesome vocals. I don’t think this will become big, but I’d like that to happen.
- On the albums chart, ‘Little Fictions’ by Elbow debuts at #1, becoming their second #1 album. The rest of the Top 5 is: the ‘La La Land’ Motion Picture Cast Recording (1-2), ‘Glory Days’ by Little Mix (stationary at #3), ‘Classic House’ by Pete Tong & The Heritage Orchestra (2-4) & ‘x’ by Ed Sheeran (4-5).
- Finally, I’m expecting a very high debut for ‘Chained To The Rhythm’ by Katy Perry; her first song since 'Rise' was released in July last year. The song features Skip Marley, who is Bob Marley’s grandson. I expect at least a Top 10 debut for this! At first listen, I can say that I think it’s very good, but I’m not calling it fantastic just yet.
- Thanks for reading my review everyone. Enjoy your weekend! :)

hey mate!! who the heck is stormzy...? and elbow?? did i read that right ;)? ok mate, i'll get the throwbacks up in just a sec ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! :)
Yeah, you read both of those names right! Stormzy is a rapper from East London & Elbow are an English rock band.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

no way! and who's pete tong? so, no boujee on the uk chart this week? ;D

avatar

Piran

2

Pete Tong is a DJ who works for BBC Radio 1 over here. :)
Oh 'Bad & Boujee' fell 31-32. Ideally it can drop a bit more next week! LOL

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

is katy perry big over there? well, i tried searching on youtube for her new single and looks like youtube has been pulling it off. ok mate, i'll get the throwbacks up in just a bit :)

avatar

Techfan

3

Yes, B&B is getting nowhere in the UK, I hope! On a good news front, according to the kworb radio update today, it's growth has slowed down, so it should soon reach a peak audience in the U.S.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I only heard it on the radio, so I don't know if there's an official video for it yet.
Katy Perry has had 13 Top 10s over here, including 4 #1s, so she is certainly very popular over here! :D

avatar

Piran

0

Hey Techfan! :)
Yeah, I think it's going to do what 'Juju' did & get stuck in the lower Top 40 for a couple more weeks & then just plummet down the charts.
Well I'll have to take a look at 'Bad & Boujee's airplay rank shortly, but I don't think it'll have been in the Top 50 this week.

avatar

David Minogue

1

love your review, just to add Katy charted with rise last year.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey what's up buddy! i got up the first part of my throwbacks, lemme know what you think ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate, get your ar$e over to the 1st part of my throwbacks, i'm working on the 2nd part of them right now :P

avatar

Piran

0

Hey David! I'm pleased that you like it. :)
Thanks for reminding me about 'Rise'. I just edited that into my review!

avatar

Piran

1

I haven't seen your post yet, but I'm going to check the throwbacks out now! ;)

avatar

Techfan

2

Hey Piran! One thing I just realized the way the chart is going is that How Far I'll Go might end up a greater hit in the UK than Scars to Your Beautiful, which I find surprising. :O I'm also glad that Lock Doh dropped out this week ... it reminds me of several songs I hate in the Hot 100. ;) Finally, let's hope Liverpool can defeat the Spurs at Anfield, 2mor!

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Techfan! :)
Well 'How Far I'll Go' is probably bigger due to it being featured on 'Moana' & soundtrack singles (especially Disney ones) often do very well over here. Also, not many Brits know who Alessia Cara is; 'Here' only reached a peak of #28. :/
Yeah, I'm also happy that 'Lock Doh' left this week too, but even better; 'T-Shirt' went with it too! ;)
Haha! Well I hope so too, but I'll more than likely be watching England vs Wales in the Six Nations Rugby Championship tomorrow. ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

Another song that I also have meant to tell you I dislike is You Want Me, although that new Stormzy song sounds pretty bad from the snippet I heard. :P

I was actually meaning to ask you about whether you watched that Rugby international competition. Not to mention, that cricket tournament they have among the Commonwealth nations ... ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I don't know what to think about 'You Want Me'. I should hate it due to it's poor production, horrible rapping & even the singing isn't good, but somehow I can actually tolerate it! :P LOL
'Big For Your Boots' is definitely bad though; have you read the lyrics? :O
Yeah, I love watching rugby, but not too interested in cricket that much. England got the 'grand slam' in last year's rugby championship (that means winning all five of their games). ;)

avatar

Techfan

2

Interestingly, 'Boots' has been related to quite a few recent Country songs, so that's a surprising title for a *rap song. ;)

So do you actually play rugby? I know quite a few people at my University liked playing it. It looks like quite a rough sport. Not quite as bad as hockey, American football or boxing, but still ... I don't get how people can watch cricket matches that last several hours. The fact they stop for tea, doesn't make me want to take it seriously. It makes me want to say, 'do you want crumpets'? :D

avatar

Aleksandr Oakley

1

Great review! I've been reading your reviews for a while now and have now made an account so I may start doing some myself. Just a quick question, why do you think So Good - Zara Larsson is so low down? I personally really like it but it is in 76th!

J

Jstar

0

Hey Techfan. Have you heard Katy's new song? It actually isn't off to a strong start like I thought. It is 3 on ITunes but actually 4 if you combine both versions of Million Reasons. But the Grammy's should give it a boost.

I don't wanna live Forever should get a large boost next week. I wonder if it will even be able to compete for number 1 with Shape of You for that one week. Well I hope your are having a good morning.

avatar

Piran

2

Hey Aleksandr! I'm pleased to hear that you like my review & I'll check out yours too. :)
Regarding 'So Good', while it's slowly recovering on sales right now, it has very little streaming (#166 on Spotify today).
Then again, 'I Would Like' & 'Ain't My Fault' remained quite low in the charts for a while & then suddenly started rising, so it's definitely still possible that 'So Good' hits the Top 40 eventually.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, but sadly, country never performs well in the UK. :/
I don't actually play rugby, but I do love watching it. Speaking of which, that England vs Wales game is on in a few minutes! :D
I'm also not really that interested in cricket to be honest. :P LOL
UPDATE: The final score was Wales 16, England 21 in the rugby. There was more good news, as Liverpool won against Tottenham 2-0 at full time!

avatar

Aleksandr Oakley

2

Thanks for the reply, think I'll start my review next week, any tips?

J

Jstar

3

Hey Piran. I hope you are doing well this evening. Nice analysis. Also that is fantastic for Ed. Nice for Zayn and Taylor. Also good for Dua Lupa also.

Well I see that you think Katy's new song is Good. It hasn't been doing that well in the U.S which is surprising. It has only reached as high as 3 on ITunes and has dropped back down to 4 and has a red update. I have to listen to it though to see how I feel about it. But it looks like it will probably sell less then Rise in its first week unless it can get a big boost from the Grammy's. Maybe it can debut in the top 10 in the U.K like you mentioned. I see that it is currently 5 over there in sales.

avatar

Piran

2

Thanks Jstar! My evening has been really good thanks. :)
Yeah, 'Chained To The Rhythm' really seems to be underperforming in the US right now, but hopefully the Grammys will give it a big boost. What do you think of Katy Perry in general then? :D
Sadly, judging by it's current performance on iTunes in your country, I'm not even sure if it can debut in the Hot 100's Top 10 for the Monday after next.
Although, I bet you're ecstatic about 'Million Reasons' is predicted to re-enter the Hot 100's Top 10 for this coming Monday! ;)

avatar

Piran

2

You're welcome! Thanks for following me. :)
Well I would just give your thoughts on: the #1, any new Top 10 arrivals & any climbers or debuts in the Top 40. You could also say what other songs in the chart you really like or really dislike & explain why.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

Just say what you feel really. and mention all the biggest stories of the week- be it climbers, debuts or noticeable feats or achievements!

J

Jstar

1

I am happy that Million Reasons has a chance. I am glad it is still at number 3 on ITunes right now. Alot of these big name artists lately have struggled with sales for their lead single in the first week.

I noticed that it has gotten a mixed reaction by those billboard. Also the fact that it is only at 5 in sales in the U.K also might hinder it from debuting in the top 10. But if she's gives a great Grammy performance then it should definitely help. I think Katy is solid. I have liked a good number of her songs. I don't think she is the greatest live performer. But she does make catchy music. Teenage Dream though is a album she will probably never be able to duplicate. Everyone has that defining album and that was hers.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

The only two tolerable grime acts I can think of are Wiley and Lethal Bizzle, I agree with you there

avatar

Piran

0

Oh yeah, Little Bizzle's fine as well! Other than that, there are no other grime acts I can say that I like. :/

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Stormzy - horrible rapper who needs to fade away
Elbow - horrible band that I thought faded away but turns out I was wrong

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Yeah, Stormzy , Skepta , JME I've not heard enough to judge but he probably is pretty bad and yeah. Overall horrible genre.

I reckon I like WIley and Lethal the best because they make dancey grime songs rather than generic hiphop

avatar

Piran

1

There's a good chance that 'Chained To The Rhythm' could do what 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' did & not have an impressive debut, but then gain a lot of momentum after a couple of weeks. :)
I agree with your opinion about Katy Perry; I think 'Teenage Dream' is still the only album by a female artist to have five Hot 100 #1s from it!

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, being a dance fan, I'm fine with Wiley & Lethal Bizzle too! :)
That's why I'm not complaining that 'Lock Doh' dropped out of the Top 100 this week.
I saw that you posted your 'Ups & Downs' of the week, so I'll check them out now. I see you didn't think this week was that great though...

J

Jstar

1

Maybe it could. But I don't wanna live Forever had that advantage of the movie. Maybe a music video could help propel Katy's new song. But since the song has a mixed reaction. I am not sure how big it will become. But let's see. But Teenage Dream really had a phoneminal run. It was amazing to see how much success Katy had with that album. And then with the re-release she had Part of Me and Wide Awake too which were large hits.

avatar

Piran

1

That's true! Also, even though it wasn't an official single, I'm still surprised that 'Rise' underperformed in both the US & UK (but It did hit #1 in Australia).
Well I hope 'I Feel It Coming' & 'Water Under The Bridge' will get boosts from tomorrow night's Grammys! :D
However, I'm still unsure about Lady Gaga & Metallica performing together; that's such an unlikely duet...

J

Jstar

1

Well Lady Gaga has always had a rock influence. And she has always been a fan of Metallica. They have complimented her also. So I am not surprised by the pairing. I really won't get on Rise to much since it was mostly a single for the Olympics. I thought it would be bigger but I will give it a pass.

Both of those songs though should get a boost though. I feel it Coming should reach the top 10 soon. Water under the Bridge may but I'm not sure if it will.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I guess 'Perfect Illusion' made me think that Lady Gaga could go down the rock route. I do prefer her dance songs to be honest, but I'm definitely still a fan of 'Perfect Illusion' & 'Million Reasons'! :D
I'm pleased that 'I Feel It Coming' could go Top 10 in the US soon & I think 'Love On The Brain' has a chance too. Sadly, 'Water Under The Bridge' has lost momentum much faster than I thought it would.

J

Jstar

1

It should atleast reach a new peak though since Adele should perform it at the Grammy's. That is nice for Rihanna.

Actually Gaga use to make more rock music when she was known as Stefani Germonotta. So rock was actually her first influence. But I would say Dance music has worked out pretty good for her lol. But the Grammy's definitely got more interesting since we have more big names then we initially thought.

avatar

Piran

1

Hopefully Top 20 for 'Water Under The Bridge' then; other than 'Hello', that's my favourite song from '25'! :)
Wow... I never knew that Lady Gaga's first influence was rock. Did you know that Katy Perry's debut album was a Christian album? I think it only sold 200 copies worldwide though. :/
Well I think there was about five Lady Gaga songs in my Top 10 throwbacks this week; I'll post them on the BB200 article if it posts tomorrow night. Did you say you'll do the lists tomorrow then? ;)

J

Jstar

1

Well Water under the Bridge is my favorite so I would be happy for at least a top 20 peak too. Yeah I am familiar with Katy's Christian album, she went by the name Katy Hudson then. Gaga actually used to have a band called the Stefani Germonotta Band. She had a E.P called Red and Blue that was more pop rock and no dance. It came out like in 05.

I look forward to your throwback list. Tomorrow really depends on the amount of people. But if there is a good number I will do my 7 peaking list.

avatar

Piran

1

Interestingly, 'Water Under The Bridge' seems to be performing better in the US than it is in the UK.
I definitely need to check out Lady Gaga's very early music & let you know what I think of it! :)
Yeah, whether or not I post my lists depends on the number of comments on the article too. I wonder If Billboard will even post the BB200 article.

J

Jstar

1

My favorite that song Gaga made before she was famous was called Wonderful, but my favorite unreleased song from her is Reloaded. I thought it could've been a big hit if she released it. Did Taylor do any other genres before she was famous? Adele actually seems to have a little more success in the U.S then the U.K interestingly lol. Yeah, that is true. Billboard may even wait until Monday to post the article.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Nope, bad new entries and lack of movement

avatar

Piran

1

I think country is the earliest music that Taylor did (would've been 2006) & other than pop, that's all that I can think of. She's also been rumoured to be going down the rock route with her next album too!
Yeah, 'Hello' got 10 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100, but only managed 3 on the Official Charts.
Well I still think that the Hot 100 article will post on Monday night like normal. :)

J

Jstar

1

Taylor doing rock. I never would've thought lol. That will be interesting to hear. The Hot 100 article will definitely still be posted on Monday. I am looking forward to the top 10 this week lol.

avatar

Piran

1

That's not confirmed though, but it is rumoured that she could be going into pop-rock. :)
Yeah, we should 'Bounce Back' in the Top 10 as well as 'Million Reasons' & 'Paris'; all good songs & finally a bit of movement! :D
So have you seen any artists live before & if so, which ones? ;)

J

Jstar

1

Concerts are too expensive. I am content watching the highlights on Youtube lol. Well that would be a interesting direction for Taylor. But I know Fearless is still your favorite album from her. But I will tell you something. She will get a better debut with her first single then what everyone else seems to be doing right now.

3 new songs in the top 10 would be awesome. That hasn't happened in a while now.

avatar

Piran

1

Haha! That's fine. :)
Well if Taylor did debut at #1 on the Hot 100, then she would be only the third female ever after Mariah & Britney to do it multiple times! :D
Well I remember last year, there was a week that: 'Purple Rain', 'When Doves Cry' & 'Formation' all reached the Top 10 in the same week, but the latter was the only song that hadn't been in the Top 10 before. Another artist I'm also looking forward to hearing new music from soon is JT. ;)

J

Jstar

1

But I will try to go to a concert in the future anyway haha. That would be nice for JT whenever he drops his lead single. Maybe Taylor and him will drop music at the same time. That would be cool if they could both score another number 1 debut. But that would definitely shake up the charts and bring more excitement. But Hopefully unlike last year. Those songs all won't drop out of the top 10 the next week lol. I know Million Reasons would but I would be content with one week.

avatar

Piran

0

Well I know if JT gets that #1 debut, he'll be the first ever male artist to do it twice! :)
Yeah, one week in the Top 10 for 'Million Reasons' is certainly better than none. It will be interesting to see if it gets #1 on sales though. :D
I know 'Paris' will definitely remain in the Top 10 for a few more weeks, but 'Bounce Back' got a boost mostly thanks to the release of Big Sean's latest album. I think it will also stay for at least a month, considering how weak the rest of the lower Top 10 is & the streaming that the song is getting.
How long do you see 'Shape Of You' staying at #1 on the Hot 100 then? ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

We'll see if that whole 'boots' song title thing continues to be a trend. The only previous one that wasn't country that I could think of what Get On Your Boots by U2.

Great that England won and that Liverpool won! ;) The 2-6 positions in the EPL table are getting very tight at this point.

avatar

Piran

0

I know Sunshine Gal is really hoping that JT can get a #1 debut on the Hot 100, as then he'll become the first male artist to do it twice! :)
Yeah, one week in the Top 10 for 'Million Reasons' is better than it not getting there at all, but I wonder if it can get to #1 on the Digital Songs Chart. :D
'Paris' should stay in the Top 10 for a few weeks, as should 'Bounce Back'. The latter might've gained in performance mostly thanks to Big Sean's latest album being released, but it also has a lot of streaming too. ;)
How many more weeks do you think 'Shape Of You' will stay at #1 for then?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I can't think of any other rap songs that come to mind that have the word 'boots' in their title, but certainly a lot of country ones! :P LOL
Regarding the EPL, Chelsea are leading by 9 points, so Sunshine Gal will certainly be pleased there.

avatar

Piran

0

'Paris' & 'Bounce Back' probably won't drop out of the Top 10 next week, as both songs are doing very well on streaming. :)
Well if JT does debut at #1 with his next single, he'll be the first male artist to have done it twice. :D
Anyway, I'm signing off now Jstar, but hopefully see you tomorrow! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

'Paris' & 'Bounce Back' probably won't drop out of the Top 10 next week, as both songs are doing very well on streaming. The latter also has strong sales too & the lower Top 10 in general is weak in overall performance right now. :)
Anyway, I'm signing off now Jstar, but hopefully see you tomorrow!

J

Jstar

1

Well take care Piran. Have a goodnight.

avatar

Techfan

1

Me either, but 'booty' seems to be very commonly used within the rap lyrics. ;P

Yeah, Chelsea will probably win unless the have a major point losing streak.

avatar

Piran

1

Well 'booty' appears in a lot of R&B & pop lyrics as well as rap, though you would never hear it in a country song! :P LOL
So who do you think will be #1 on the BB200 next week then? I know 'I Decided' by Big Sean should debut at the top later today.

avatar

Techfan

1

Next week the 50 Shades Darker will probably get #1. #2 seems less clear at this point. It would appear that Big Sean would have the edge but an album that gets a huge boost from the Grammys by the artist performing and/or winning (especially album of the year winner) could make it a challenger for that spot. Then there's the Trolls OST that has rebounded to #2 in iTunes. BTW, the chart weeks including the Grammys are usually one of the most exciting ones in the BB 200. ;)

So are you going the watch the Grammy's tonight?

avatar

Piran

1

I hope 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' still has a chance to go to #1 on the Hot 100! :)
Regarding the Grammys, could we see '25' & 'Lemonade' back in the BB200's Top 10 next week then?
Also, I'll try to find a way to watch them, but they don't broadcast on UK TV until tomorrow night my time. If I wanted to watch the show live, I'd have to stream it on CBS All Access, which requires a payment to subscribe in my country. Hopefully Billboard will post videos or a link to watch it live though, otherwise I'd have to wait another day to see it.

avatar

Techfan

1

Well, for now IDWLF appears to have a narrowing lead over SoY in iTunes. In radio, SoY did get to #1 a day or two ago and its lead has increased. It will probably peak within 2 to 4 weeks there. In streaming, SoY has quite a lead, in both Spotify and YouTube with both of its video. So, don't think IDWLF will get to #1 next week but hopefully it can bump B&B from #2.

Regarding the Grammys, I don't know if there are other ways to stream it live for free, but I do it for football matches. There's probably a way to do so. I'll let you know if I find something ... ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I think Ines said that 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' would probably get blocked at #2 by 'Shape Of You'. The latter very an extremely narrow lead on UK iTunes right now & 'Human' could pass it at any time.
Thanks for looking into how to watch the Grammys for free. Well Billboard usually keep us posted very well, so I'll check out any of the articles that they put up.
Well the performers list also has: Little Big Town, Kelsea Ballerini & Lukas Graham on it now, so I'm generally pleased with that. James Corden hosting the show should be awesome though! ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

For now, IDWLF will be blocked. Anyway, one thing I haven't heard is who's doing the George Michael tribute.

avatar

Piran

1

John Legend & Cynthia Erivo will perform a memorial to musicians who have died in the past year. Apparently there's also going to be a Bee Gees tribute too! :)

avatar

Techfan

1

Something tells those tributes might be done by artists that don't chart much anybody. Although, I could see an Aussie or two doing the Bee Gees if there's one. They were the most successful Hot 100 act if you saw those Australian Open articles.

avatar

Piran

1

I didn't see the Australian Open articles, but I'm not surprised considering how big the Bee Gees are. :)
So are you going to be on the Hot 100 article tomorrow night then? :D
I think for next week when you do your weekly observations, you could do a Grammys special! ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

Sure. I'll see what I can come up with ... I'll check some older Chart Beat articles to get some ideas. ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Awesome! :)
I might've asked this before, but do you think the BB200 article will still post tonight?
Also, I just updated my Top 40 songs of the week if you're interested:
www.crownnote.c*m/charts/piran-delves/pirans-top-40-11

avatar

Techfan

1

No you didn't but they should post it within the next few hours. They don't have a real excuse not to to do so. :D

I'll take a look at your list later. I'm still a bit sore and achy from yesterday. I think I banged my thigh muscle just above my knee! I don't plan to go out later so I can give it the rest it needs to heal. :P

avatar

Piran

1

Ah fair enough, but I don't think there'll be too many comments there though! :P LOL
Well I hope your leg gets better soon; I actually pulled a muscle in mine last week. :/
Can you get the Grammys live on TV in the US then? :)

avatar

Techfan

1

Yes. We'll see what happens. So All Jureau passed away. I guess they'll mention that tonight or somebody could include a tribute for him

I do get to watch it live on CBS. ;)

avatar

Piran

1

He was an American jazz singer, right? I saw that there is an article about him up on Chart Beat right now. I think the main tributes at the Grammys tonight will be for Prince & George Michael.
Well apparently there is a live stream happening on Billboard from just before 11pm my time, so I'm going to keep checking that page! ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

Yes, the only song I remember seeing charting for him was the theme from Moonlighting, an American TV series starring Bruce Willis from the 1980s.

BTW, Ed Sheeran appeared as the musical guest in Saturday Night Live. So that's why SoY has just returned to #1 in iTunes and CotH rebounded to #29.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're be doing all sorts of livestreams ... ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Pleased to hear about the Ed Sheeran boosts! I wonder if his upcoming album can sell more than 'x' did.
Oh the BB200's Top 10 just posted; 'I Decided' debuted at #1 & 'Joanne' soared to #2! :)

avatar

Techfan

0

It will be hard for "÷" to surpass "x" in sales, but it might end up being more successful in the charts if the songs from it do better. For one, I wonder if SoY could possibly end up being a bigger hit than TOL. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

hey what's up girl! are you gonna be on the bb articles 2day and 2mor? just click myself or piran's (his would be better since he's usually one of the first commenters on those articles) profiles and come join the party! the top 10 is usually boring and redundant, but the articles are almost always lots of fun to chat on :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

and yeah, there's plenty of uk acts i myself have never heard of! and then to see really big u.s. acts achieve moderate success in the uk :D myself and piran always have a ton of fun chatting about each country's music scene.

What's up girl? I'm a guy you know
