Ups & Downs:

Ups:
All the Christmas songs re-entering! I don't necessarily like them all but it's a change from the same old same old.
Numerous bad songs (I'm looking at you, That's My Girl and Ain't My Fault) dropped out the top 40.
Do They Know It's Christmas may re-enter unlike last year! It's at 41, but I will be a bit mad if it doesn't get in the top 40 this year.
Little Mix are off number 1 in the album chart. Not a Rolling Stones fan but you know...

Downs:
Closer drops out the top 10. Now there's not a SINGLE song in the top 10 i actually LIKE. They're not ALL bad but none are good to me.
All I Want For Christmas Is You gets in the top 10. Difference from the S.O.S though
Stationary top 4. Hooray.
After the Afterparty gets in the top 40? And DNCE's follow-ups don't? When did Charli XCX come out of oblivion? What is this madness?
Zara Larson's new song. A disappointment. It sounded like a promising song about jealousy at first, which is usually good for me until she said 'worst behaviour' and ' body'. Just another bunch of sexual s**t because sells.

I hope Zayn Malik & Taylor Swift's new single "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" debuts on the charts next week. It's the soundtrack for the upcoming romantic drama film "Fifty Shades Darker" which is the sequel to the 2015 movie "Fifty Shade of Grey". It's set for release on February 10, 2017. 🎵 #ZaynMalik #TaylorSwift #TaylorSwiftandzayn #IDontWannaLiveForever

"Rockabye" by Clean Bandit (featuring Sean Paul and Anne-Marie) remains at number 1 for a fifth straight week. This makes it Clean Bandit's longest-running number 1 single, surpassing the four weeks their former chart-topper "Rather Be" spent at the top in 2014 (from January 24, 2014- February 14, 2014). It's the third Top 10 this year for Sean Paul, as a featured artist, following Sia's "Cheap Thrills", and Little Mix's "Hair".
The 59th Annual Grammy Awards nominations were announced on December 6, 2016. The ceremony will be held on February 12, 2017, to recognize the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year, which runs from October 1, 2015- September 30, 2016. Some of the nominees are still currently on the Top 100 Official UK Singles Charts. The Chainsmokers have three nominations ("Best New Artist", "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance", and "Best Dance Recording" for their single 'Closer'). Sia also has three nominations ("Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance", "Best Pop Vocal Album", and "Best Song Written for Visual Media"). Justin Bieber has four nominations ("Album of the Year", "Song of the Year", "Best Pop Solo Performance", and "Best Pop Vocal Album"). Beyoncé has nine nominations. Drake, Kanye West, and Rihana have eight nominations.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas as there are now 18 Christmas classics on the Official Singles Charts. "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey is at number 6.

hey what's up mates!! i thought i'd do something different with this set batch of throwbacks. since little mix is doing so well over here in the uk, i'm gonna put up the hot 100 and 200 albums' top 10's for each of their bdays and tell you guys what i'd be following on the charts and what i personally liked and what was going on in the u.s. music scene when each 1 of them was born :D have them up in just a sec ;)

jesy nelson: 6/14/1991 *not an avid bb follower during this time*

hot 100: 1. paula abdul/rush, rush; 2. color me badd/i wanna *** you up; 3. extreme/more than words; 4. michael bolton/love is a wonderful thing; 5. r.e.m./losing my religion; 6. mariah/i don't wanna cry; 7. emf/unbelievable; 8. luther vandross/power of love; 9. black box/strike it up; 10. hi-five/i like the way (kissing game).

i wouldn't become a hot 100 addict until later this year, but when jesy was born i was def into: paula abdul, color me badd, mariah and hi five. mariah @ this time, had her 1st 4 singles go to #1 *the single in this top 10 would be the 4th and last single from her debut album* and she had just tied the jackson 5's feat of being the 2nd act to have their 1st 4 singles go to #1. *she would later top j5 when her 5th consecutive single 'emotions' went to #1. j5 is still the only group to have their 1st 4 singles go to #1*.

bb 200 albums chart: 1. paula abdul/spellbound; 2. n.w.a./n-4life; 3. r.e.m./out of time; 4. michael bolton/time, love and tenderness; 5. c & c music factory/gonna make you sweat; 6. mariah carey/*same name*; 7. new jack city soundtrack; 8. garth brooks/no fences; 9. a.b.c/coolin' @ the playground; 10. extreme/extreme II

my fave album from this top 10 would def. be mariah's debut album. not too much going on in the u.s. music scene during this time from what i recall...but that's all gonna change when mj comes back in dec. of this year ;). *when i became a life long bb addict*

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

leigh-anne pinnock-10/4/1991: *i won't become a hot 100 follower until mj's 'black or white' was #1 in early dec. of this year, but briefly glanced @ the bb charts prior*

hot 100: 1. marky mark/good vibrations; 2. color me badd/i adore mi amor; 3. mariah/emotions; 4. natural selecction/do anything; 5. firehouse/love of a lifetime; 6. karyn white/romantic; 7. bonnie raitt/something to talk about; 8. boyz tomen/motownphilly; 9. extreme/hole hearted; 10. r.e.m./shiny happy people.

so, the music scene is def. becoming more fun during this time...mariah, color me badd and karyn white would be my fave acts in this week's top 10. believe it or not, boyz to men was just starting out ;) and would later have a history making #1 smash 'end of the road' that would notch 13 wks @ #1 *whitney houston would later top that feat in 1 yr and other later acts*

200 albums' chart: 1. guns n roses/use your illusion 1; 2. guns n roses/use your illusion 2; 3. garth brooks/ropin the wind; 4. mariah/emotions; 5. metallica/black album; 6. natalie cole/unforgettable; 7. ozzy osbourne/no more tears; 8. the commitments soundtrack; 9. bonnie raitt/luck of the draw; 10. color me badd/cmb.

guns n roses just came off from having the biggest selling debut album of all time in the u.s. 2 yrs prior *record feat still stands today* when their debut album 'appetite for destruction' went 18x plat...that's right, 18 mill ;). metallica's album is also huge here @ 16x plat. garth brooks' 'ropin the wind' will be his 2nd diamond album, he holds all time record of 7 diamond albums. but, my fave albums in this week's top 10 would def. be mariah, natalie cole and color me badd's.

avatar

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! Great throwbacks as always. :)
Well it looks like Mariah & Color Me Badd did very well around then. Also, the RIAA certifications for the albums in 1991 seem massive. Even with streaming, we're probably never going to get albums that reach 16-18x platinum, or at least not for a very long time. :D
Did you check out my review of the UK charts that I posted earlier? ;)

oh no mate, i haven't had a chance to check out your review just yet...but i will in a lil' bit, i'll put up the rest of my lm throwbacks :)

jade thirwall-12/26/1992: *def. a hot 100 follower by this time, the past year was tons of fun on the hot 100* 1. whitney houston/i will always love you *5th of 14th #1 week...talk about holding your breath each week!*; 2. wrex-n-effect/rumpshaker; 3. shai/if i ever fall in love; 4. boyz to men/in the still of the nite; 5. pm dawn/i'd die without you; 6. snap/rhtyhm is a dancer; 7. bobby brown/good enough; 8. shanice/saving forever for you; 9. the heights/how do you talk to an angel; 10. mary j blige/real love

so, @ this time on the u.s. radio airwaves...all you heard was whitney!! every time you turned on the radio or in the next 5 min. you would her iconic classic 'i will always love you.' the movie was becoming a big hit! but i have to say, after about say...10 wks? i got really tired of the song! today now that she's gone, i def. have a newfound appreciation for it and esp. for the 14 #1 week run...so the top 10 would fluxuate as usual, but whitney will be locked @ #1 for 9 more wks and keep returning back to the top 10 *sometimes with 2 top 10's in the same week) all until the end of summer the following year.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

jade thirwall *cont'd* 200 albums chart-12/26/1992: 1. bodyguard! :D 3rd of 20 #1 wk run; 2. amy grant/home for xmas; 3. michael bolton/timeless (the classics); 4. garth brooks/the chase; 5. billy ray cyrus/some gave all; 6. eric clapton/unplugged; 7. a very special xmas 2; 8. neil diamond/xmas album; 9. kenny g/breathless; 10. garth brooks/beyond the season

so @ this time, there was no way of forseeing how big the bodyguard soundtrack will become *it'll eventually reach 17x plat...that's right, 17 mill in 1 yr!* since i was already a big fan of hers, it was very thrilling to see her @ #1 on both charts and to keep going back into the top 10.

the bodyguard soundtrack will become the #1 album of the year *following year* and 'i will always love you' will become the #1 hot 100 song of the year. there's no other way to say it: whitney houston was 100x bigger than she was previously! even today, it's still the biggest selling soundtrack of all time in the u.s.! & during this time of jade's bday...it looked like whitney was on a roll for sure, but with no internet, it just seemed like her album would just be a modest success ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Well it was more observations than a review this time, so it would be similar to what Techfan does on the Hot 100 articles each Tuesday. I wanted to make my post a lot longer, but I had some phone calls around that time as well! :) LOL

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh there you are!! ok, i'll have my perrie throwback up in just a few min. ;). see...i told you you would like my choice for this week ;) ok mate, brb :)

avatar

Piran

1

Well I certainly know the: #1, #5 & 10 songs from this list. Here's a fun fact about 'I Will Always Love You': it ties 'Umbrella' for the longest UK #1 single with a female as the lead artist (10 weeks). ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

last, but not least: perrie edwards-7/10/1993 *hot 100*: 1. swv/weak; 2. janet jackson/that's the way love goes; 3. tag team/whoomp! there it is; 4. UB40/can't help falling in love; 5. h-town/knockin da boots; 6. robin s./show me love; 7. rod stewart/have i told you lately; 8. dr. dre/dre day; 9. expose/i'll never get over you; 10. duran duran/come undone

ok...well, looking back on perrie's bday ;) lots of fun tracking janet and swv this past year...i loved all their singles and both acts seemed to be in the top 10 all year long. i can't recall the duran duran one...but the ub40 one was also a big hit.

200 albums' chart: 1. janet jackson/janet; 2. rod stewart/unplugged and seated; 3. stone temple pilots/core; 4. kenny g/breathless; 5. dr. dre/the chronic; 6. bily ray cyrus/it won't be the last; 7. last action hero soundtrack; 8. bodyguard!; 9. spin doctors/pocket full of kryptonite; 10. swv/it's about time

so, janet jackson makes a big comeback! her lead single 'that's the way love goes' was #1 for something like 10 wks @ the time. and of course swv was also a fave act of mine too...kenny g's album will go about 12x plat.

and of course, whitney is still selling like crazy! even after the movie was out of theatres, the singles were still doing really good on the hot 100 and on the radio. back then, word of mouth buzz was more than enough. when perrie was born, everyone would still be talking about the bodyguard soundtrack and how good it was.

whitney would also snag tons of billboard awards later that year esp. for the record #1 setting of the 'i will always love you' single on the hot 100 chart and the 20 #1 wk run on the 200 albums chart *record feat for a female artist, adele has since topped that feat* and she'll also nab 8 american music awards the following jan. ;). the all time record with mj from the 1984 ama's *he also won 8 awards that year*.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, if Little Mix are involved, then I'm certainly interested! :)
Let me know when you've posted the Perrie throwback please.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok mate, i'll done with the perrie throwback ;) i didn't want to make it too long, so i kept breaking up the post into smaller paragraphs.

avatar

Piran

1

Well the Perrie throwback looks great as well! I definitely know 'That's The Way Love Goes' & 'Show Me Love', also I really liked both of them. :)
So how do you feel about 'Touch' being announced as the second single from 'Glory Days' then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

really? i have to be honest, when mariah broke her record, not only was i very surprised, but i was a lil' ticked LOL! but, there's room for everyone, right? but yeah, when whitney was going those 14 wks, i remember being so impatient for the next week's mtv news brief *on weds* and then the updated mag. on thurs. and there she was @ #1 each week! :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

you know the robin s. single? i honestly don't LOL! and yeah, i think it's a good choice for a 2nd single...any news about simon promoting it more over here?

avatar

Piran

1

So where did 'I Will Always Love You' debut on the Hot 100 then & how long did it take to get to #1?
Also, didn't the US charts always update on a Wednesday before last year? :)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it also peaked at #6 here in the UK. I sometimes still hear it on the radio during the dance throwback shows. :)
I agree that 'Touch' is an awesome choice for a second single, but I'm not sure how they're promoting it in the US yet. Techfan said that SOTME would be released to radio in your country next month, which is extremely late in my opinion...

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i believe it debuted @ #40-14-1, but sorry mate, my slow speed can't pull up the hot 100 archives :(. i know it didn't take too long to go to #1.

well, back in 1992, no internet ;). so the physical mag. would be out by thurs or frid and mtv would do a top 10 preview on weds. but yes, one the bb site would be up, the top 10 preview articles would be ready on weds and the full charts would be updated each thurs.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

is robin s. a british singer?? if i hear it again, i'll prob. remmeber it. and the lm single will be on u.s. radio next month? well, believe it or not, some of the biggest artists back in the day (incl. whitney houston) would have to wait 1 yr to make it on u.s. radio. i am surprised simon waited a month later...but maybe he read all my posts :D we'll see what happens ;) you never know, u.s. radio can really like it and it can do well on the hot 100 chart ;).

avatar

Piran

1

If it got to #1 on its 3rd week in the Hot 100, then that is very impressive! :)
Yeah, it's a shame that you have slow internet. Please let me know what you think of 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' when you hear it... being a Swiftie, I've been waiting for this day for months. :D
Oh I'm not going to be on here for as long as I thought unfortunately, so maybe another hour. I also forgot to ask you this yesterday, but what were your most & least favourite songs from the 2016 Year-End Hot 100? ;)

avatar

Piran

1

No, Robin S is an American singer, but a lot of remixes of 'Show Me Love' have made it a successful hit in Europe.
Wow... I didn't know it took that long to make it on to US radio back when Whitney was big on the Hot 100! Hopefully SOTME can get really good radio support & re-enter the Hot 100 next month. The advantage of having good airplay is that people who have never heard of the song before might start liking it, which will also boost it's: sales, streaming & YouTube! :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah the whitney one was almost predominantly radio airplay to jump up the chart like that. it seemed like the first time i heard it on the radio, i just kept hearing it non-stop.

well, i'll check out their song...but i'm not feeling that #1 debut. i mean, i know it is what it is and they both don't have any say over what bb does...i just don't feel zayn should be the male artist with that feat. cuz that feat is taking 21 yrs to achieve!! if it was a solo hit or he had a calendar run of hits, then that's 1 thing. i dunno...i do like zayn and in no way want to hurt his feelings and all...but, it seems like this feat was too easy to achieve.

and it's all good about my internet :D normally i'd also be @ the library if i had any spare time and of course working :). i'll get my high speed back soon ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Well IDWLF reached has reached #1 on iTunes in 61 countries so far, but Kworb are having some problems updating their sales at the moment. I'll definitely keep you updated though, but I have to disagree with you & say that I really want that Hot 100 #1 debut from Zayn & Tay-Tay! I'm more excited for the success that the latter artist will get from this, but I really like both.
Yeah, Zayn would be getting two debuts unusually quick, especially considering how long it took MJ & JT to get just one! Nobody can say that streaming an advantage for them here though, as IDWLF wasn't even released on Spotify or YouTube.
Whatever happens, I'm sure the next couple of Hot 100 charts will be lots of fun! :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

sorry mate, i was on the tay-tay/zayn article. and let me clarify what i meant about whitney: when she first started out in 1984, without the internet, a lot of debut artists had a harder time making it on mainstream radio. by the time 'i will always love you' was on the radio, she was a big pop star. i was referring to the beginning of her career where her album was just floating in space for about a yr and then her single 'you give good love' became a top 10 hit. her label did release 1 or 2 singles before that and she was even an opening act for another artist during that time...but nothing really happened for her until mid-1985.

and with lm, believe me, anything can happen :). once the single is released to radio and if they can really promote it, i have a feeling things may turn around for them. ;) and yes, you can always re-enter the chart and do even better the 2nd time around ;). that's why i'm always saying not to be too discourage by the current chart stats, the next week you could see a huge turnaround :)

avatar

Piran

0

Haha yeah the Taylor & Zayn article is definitely a lot of fun! As well as myself, other Swifties like: Chasexox, Maz Max, MusicStan & Westeria are all going to be very excited commenters over the next two weeks! :)
Well without internet & just radio, then to have 'I Will Always Love You' perform like that after being in the music industry for just one year must've been great for Whitney. Is that your all-time favourite song of hers then? :D
I really hope 'Touch' is the single that makes Little Mix big in the US, but I don't think it'll perform as well as SOTME did. It would be good to get an artist featuring on it (remember Tay-Tay's 'Bad Blood') or a remix of the song (like with Mike Posner's 'I Took A Pill In Ibiza') & it could become much more successful. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well with mj, you gotta remember the hot 100 had revised their rules around the time 'you are not alone' was first released to radio. so with him, it took about 2 wks to snag that #1 debut, possibly even 1 wk! he'd already made history by the #5 debut of 'scream' a few mos. prior. see with him, that's cool he was the 1st artist to achieve that. and mj had no internet advantages whatsoever, it had just been released to radio so a lot of that was predominantly radio airplay.

but i'm not feelin' zayn snagging that unique feat ahead of someone like jt. but it is what it is...and we really won't know until bb confirms it. i'll be happy with a #2 debut :D also if zayn does achieve that, won't he be the 1st uk act with 2 #1 debuts?

avatar

Piran

1

Not only would Zayn become the first UK act to debut at #1 on the Hot 100 twice, but he would become the first non-US act to do so I believe! It is such a huge achievement, but like you, I'm surprised how quick he could be getting this feat considering he's only had one big hit in the US as a solo artist so far. Anyway, it might not even debut at #1 yet, because we need to see if Zayn & Taylor can keep up the great sales before then. Whatever happens, it's definitely a very interesting collaboration! :)
Well I'm going to sign off now Sunshine Gal, but it was awesome chatting to you again today! Also, don't forget to check out my observations from the charts this week! :P LOL
Seriously though, I understand if your internet is too slow at the moment. Anyway, have a good night & I look forward to talking to you again tomorrow. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well...i'd be happier with a #2 debut ;). ok mate, i'll try and check out your observations, i've been having a great chat with chasexox over this. it's not that i don't want zayn to be successful, but you gotta remember, i've seen all the #1 debuts since mj first did it. and that no male artist since 1995 has had 2 #1 debuts and zayn could be the first..? oh well, we'll just wait and see...and yes, i'll talk to you 2mor ;) good night! :P

avatar

Piran

1

Oh can you tell Chasexox & Jstar I said goodnight to them as well please. :)
Well another thing to remember is that the 'Fifty Shades Darker' movie has been highly anticipated, which is one of the reasons that Zayn & Taylor are getting a lot of success with this song, especially in sales. :D
Thanks for checking my observations & I'll answer your question about them tomorrow now when I'm back on again. This is definitely my last post to you for today though! LOL
Goodnight Sunshine Gal! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok goodnight mate...i guess we'll both disagree about the *possible* #1 debut. but @ least the top 10 won't be so boring...and def. tell me of any cool #1 debuts for the uk singles chart. ok talk to you 2mor :)

avatar

Piran

1

Good morning Sunshine Gal! I hope your day is going well. :)
I won't be on for very long tonight, as I'll be going home in a few hours time. Hopefully you're on now! :D
Anyway, a day later & I really don't see a #1 debut happening for Zayn & Taylor in the UK (maybe just Top 5 for now) & I'm still not sure about the Hot 100, but my guess is #2 or #3 for that chart at the moment. So JT might still be the first male to debut atop the Hot 100 after all... ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey good morning mate! yeah hardly nobody's on right now :D well, have a fun and safe trip home! :)

well, i'd get over it if zayn did get that feat...but, i just feel it'd be too easy an achievement for him. then i'd have to have a talk with the current bb editor in chief ;). if it's getting too easy, we gotta change up the rules! but again, we'll just have to wait and see.

well, there's another bb article about the rest of our 1D mates *minus harry* tweeting to louis. are the uk tabloids easing up on louis'?

avatar

Piran

1

Well it's Saturday morning in the US now, so I didn't expect many people other than you to be on! :P LOL
Thanks! I'm getting a six hour bus trip home which will leave in the evening your time, but I still haven't packed yet. :D haha
Speaking of #1 debuts, it's unfortunately quite difficult to answer your question from last night without me doing quite a bit of research first; before streaming, #1 debuts happened quite often in the UK charts, so it's difficult to say who had the most #1 debuts. Here are the artists with the most #1 singles in my country though...
#1: Elvis Presley (21)
#2: The Beatles (17)
#3 (tie): Cliff Richard & Westlife (14)
#5: Madonna (13)
#6 (tie): The Shadows & Take That (12)
Well Louis is still going ahead with his performance on the X Factor tonight, but he has definitely got so much support from everyone over here. What's even worse about this story is that it happened just before Christmas. :(

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

elvis has 21 #1 songs in the uk??!! wow! that's more than the beatles over here :D who's cliff richard? and the shadows...were they a 60's uk group? there was a uk group around that time with the same name that john lennon personally hated :D the shadows always wore suits and ties and the beatles' manager, brian epstein, convinced the fab 4 to do the same as the shadows' attire...john fought it 'til the end :D but still complied.

well, who was the first artist to have a #1 debut over there, or has that been a chart feat for many decades?

and yeah...louis' bday is on xmas eve...and his mom is young! she's 2 yrs older than me :(. so sorry again for his whole family...i just know the uk tabloids can be merciless and i hope they'll ease up with him.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, the difference is that the Official Charts began in 1952 & Elvis has most of his success in the mid-50s if I remember correctly. The Hot 100 didn't start until 1958, so that's why he didn't get as many #1s in the US as he did in the UK.
I'm surprised Cliff Richard wasn't big in your country though, especially considering he sold over 250 millions records worldwide. His only Top 10s on the Hot 100 are: 'Devil Woman' (#6, 1976), 'We Don't Talk Anymore' (#7. 1979) & 'Dreamin' (#10, 1980). Incredibly, The Shadows are Cliff Richard's backing group, but they were a 60s British rock band like you said. I see why John Lennon wouldn't like them that much if they had a rivalry with The Beatles! :P LOL
Well not counting the inaugural Official Charts (this is was in November 1952), the first #1 debut was 'Jailhouse Rock' by Elvis Presley in January 1958.

well, today bb credits elvis with 18 #1's...but yeah the hot 100 had different names back in the 50s. the hot 100 chart was born around the same time as madonna and mj, i've always thought that was pretty cool...and prince was born about 2-3 mos. before that ;).

i knew i heard that name 'the shadows' before. ;) well, sorry mate, never heard of cliff richards...esp. if that's the last time he did anything over here. well, the rivalry between them and the beatles would still be in liverpool and before the beatles hit it big. john just felt the shadows were too stiff and he didn't like having to wear suits and ties like the shadows always did. but he complied ;) it's all in cynthia's book :)

and no new articles on bb!! so, are you gonna be on bb 2mor?

avatar

Piran

1

Think about how many #1s Elvis would've back if Billboard included the pre-Hot 100... :)
Also, did you hear that Zayn & Tay-Tay collaboration yet? It's almost the only song I've been listening to today & it's definitely got me excited going into 2017! :D
Well regarding Cliff Richards (as well as Westlife & Take That), that shows how hard it can be for British artists to chart on the Hot 100, even the most successful ones in my country. Thankfully The Beatles & The Shadows couldn't have any fights on social media. :P LOL
I should be on the BB200 article tomorrow. Are you going to be there as well?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

actually bb does count his pre-hot 100 #1's, bringing his final total to 18. and no i haven't heard the new tay-tay/zayn song...this was certainly an unexpected surprise ;)

and right LOL!! good thing there wasn't social media when the beatles and the shadows had their rivalry :D the most vocal rivalry i've seen between any boybands would be with the wanted and 1D. :D bsb and nsync just kept to themselves and if there was any animosity between the 2 groups, they were really good @ keeping all that private. but both groups, once things were going good for each 1, were on such a roll....that fighting with each other would've been useless and such a waste of time. i do recall that not too many people *eminem* was happy for nsync when they sold the 1.1mill albums in 1 day ;) *a record feat that nsync still holds today as the only artist who can do that*.

and yes, i'll be on the 200 article 2mor...i'm def. looking forward to the hot 100 article on the 19th ;). ok mate, i'll go ahead and let you go and tell me all about your trip! talk to you later :P

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I described the Zayn & Tay-Tay collaboration as an early Christmas present over on the IDWLF article! :)
Anyway, it's great that you'll be on the BB200 article tomorrow. I'm so excited to see what Ines & Simm say in their final predictions for Monday's Hot 100 & if 'Starboy' can get at least one week at #1. :D
I might be back on for a little bit later (I leave at 6pm your time), but if I don't chat to you before that time, then enjoy the rest of your day Sunshine Gal. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok, i'll def. be on back before 6pm my time...prob. in another hr to hr & half :D i'm just gonna grab some breakfast and do a couple more things around the house. i just hate to keep you from your packing and all that...talk to you in a bit *if you're on ;)*

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate! don't know if you're on right now, give me a holler if you are ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine! :)
I'm going to be on for about another hour, but I've still got a bit more packing to do. :P
So it looks like that new Louis Tomlinson song called 'Just Hold On' is bounding up the iTunes charts worldwide. I hope it performs well for him & along with Zayn & Tay-Tay debuting on the 19th as well, that's a Hot 100 chart to be very excited for. :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate! didn't know that you were on just now :D. so, louis is going solo too? how's his single gonna do over here? well, that'll be an interesting chart to discuss and go over :)

oh on the tay-tay/zayn article...a zayn fan said something 'pleasant' to me...;) so i go on his profile and he's sorta crazy :/ check out his past comments about zayn and about black people :/.

so, anymore news on harry and liam's solo endeavors? and whatever happened to that uk sister trio cleopatra? they had a couple minor hits over here and then i never heard from them again.

avatar

Piran

1

Well I wasn't planning to be on, but I got reply from Ines, so I wanted to ask her about what she thought of the 2017 Grammy nominations & the 2016 Year-End Hot 100. Our Brazilian buddy also loves the Zayn & Tay-Tay collaboration as well! :)
Who is this commenter that you're referring to & has he been like this to you before? :/
No, I've not heard anything about Harry's & Liam's solo careers, but I expect we'll get a song from them eventually.
Regarding Cleopatra, their 3 Top 10 hits here were: 'Cleopatra's Theme' (#3), 'Life Ain't Easy' (#4) & 'I Want You Back' (#4), all in 1998. They only just managed to get a Top 20 album, so they only had brief success over here too.
Oh I've just heard Louis' new single with DJ Steve Aoki & it sounds really good from first listen, especially considering I love dance music. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh his name is luke, and no i've never interacted with him before...but check out his past comments on his profile page ;). i just wrote a sarcastic response to him and that's it :D, i got better things to do :)

oh what happened to lady sovereign? i remember she had 1 minor hit over here...was she a british rapper? so you're all packed yet? i'll prob. be signing off soon...god, everyone's out xmas shopping or something? ;D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate, i'm gonna grab some lunch and do some last-minute things....i may be on later 2night my time or we can chat 2mor ;) have a safe trip! :)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I just checked his profile & I think not responding to him is the best thing to do. :)
Well 'Nine2Five' was Lady Sovereign's only major hit here in the UK (#6, 2006), but 'Love Me Or Hate Me' went to #1 in the US Dance charts later that year. :D
I'm probably going to sign off now as I've done half of my packing. I'll probably chat to you tomorrow on the BB200 article then. It was awesome talking to you today Sunshine Gal & I hope you enjoy the rest of your day! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks! I was actually planning to sign off now as well. LOL
I look forward to our chat tomorrow. :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok mate, i had more calls and texts come in...and you'll be happy to know that i made it to my mailbox by myself :D i still needed 1 crutch and going up and down the stairs was still a lil' challenge, and i was very nervous @ first! but wish i could've kept walking :D ok mate, talk to you 2mor :P

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah 'love me or hate me' is the song i was thinking of! i totally forgot the title!

avatar

Piran

1

Good morning Sunshine Gal! :)
Well it's great to hear that you were able to do all of that. Hopefully you're not as exhausted as you were a few weeks ago either. Anyway, I'm pleased that you can walk that far now. :D
So it looks like we could have two former 1D members against each other for #1 on iTunes in both of our countries... Louis & Zayn! The former is currently atop the UK iTunes chart & the latter is currently atop the US iTunes chart. ;)
Oh I sent you a FB message earlier today. It was about something I wanted to ask you about something I read on the Zayn & Tay-Tay article last night, but it's nothing too serious.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, good morning to you too young man ;) just came back from fb ;) so, i hope everything's all good. well, glad to know you had a safe trip home...so you just took one of those red double decker buses? :D i saw that in the 1D vid 'one thing'. and yes, i plan on walking a lil' further today, but still in my complex...i was too impatient yesterday :D i wanted to keep going, but it was better i turn back and go home.

well...any news about louis releasing his single over here? i really do wish all of them the best...but we both know it's much harder to make it over here than there. and no response from zayn from lm's single? :D i gotta give it to perrie, that was so funny!

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, everything is fine with me thanks! It was really great seeing my family this morning after a few weeks away from hone. :)
Well the red double decker buses you're thinking of are only really found in London, but I took a 'Megabus' back home (a blue one) & it only cost £3.50 for $4.40... that's amazing for a six hour trip! :D
Louis has released his single in the US & it's already #2 on iTunes in your country, behind Tay-Tay & Zayn. Regarding Zayn, I don't think he's made a comment about SOTME yet.
I know, right? I thought Taylor was good at writing break-up songs, but Perrie nailed it! ;) LOL
Oh I saw your recent Facebook message & will try to respond to it a bit later today. Have you got your #5-peaking songs list ready for the BB200 article then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh i wanted to ask you, on google for the chelsea game it says 1-0 FT...what does 'ft' mean? and for your guys' game it says 1-0 live '13? well, my u.s. football team the giants are playing the dallas cowboys today >-< the cowboys have the best record in the nfl right now...gonna be a tough game.

and yes, i got my #5 list ready...what's the list you're gonna be doing again? songs that begin with 's'? oh speaking perrie, wonder if she gave zayn back that engagement ring or kept it? oh and that one zayn fan, i blocked him ;). a lil' too crazy :D

avatar

Piran

1

'FT' means 'full time', so the game has finished. I bet you're pleased that your team won then! :P
Live 13' means that the game is in the 13th of 90 minutes right now. Well I'll probably be doing 'S' & 'T' songs tonight, as well as re-posting my current Top 10 songs of the week (that's from the current Top 40 Crown Note charts that I posted back on Wednesday). I re-post them on Sunday because I want to give all of you an opportunity to share what you were listening to most throughout the week. :)
Well if you watch the SOTME video, Perrie throws a lot of stuff out of the car, including the teddy bear that was very similar to the one that Zayn gave her when they were engaged... :O
Yeah, I would just ignore them. I don't think you have to worry about IDWLF debuting at #1 on the Hot 100, because using Simm's formula & some figures that another commenter told me earlier, it will probably debut in at least the lower Top 10 on the 19th.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah, sorry mate, your guys' football is still confusing ;). see with us, there's 4-15 min. quarters and we have a 1st half (2 quarters) and a 2nd half (same) and then a break in between *halftime*. we never have draws...you play until someone has a higher score and we do have overtime, 1st team that scores will win. lemme know if you ever wanna check out a real football game ;D i have a few games to recommend ;)

well, i hope perrie kept the ring ;D usually in an engagement, @ least over here, if the couple decides not to get married, you would give back the ring. and she threw out the teddy bear he gave her? wow! or a similar one? too bad she didn't have a pic of him on a dartboard or something :D

and i wasn't worried per se' about the new zayn/tay-tay single....i just don't feel zayn has been around the block enough as a solo artist to nab that feat. i mean, of course, it is what it is...i just felt it would've been too easy if he did get that record feat. whereas back in the day, feats like that were very difficult, rare and unpredictable.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

listen mate, i'm gonna grab a quick bite and do a few things, incl. going on that longer walk ;) i'll be back around 12:30-1pm my time ok? and you can also spend some more time with your family...if i'm not back, i'm prob. too tired, but i'll be back later today, so you can go ahead and be the first comment on the 200 article ;D catch ya later :P

avatar

Piran

1

Haha! Well we have 2 halves as well, both of 45 minutes & there's also a break at 'halftime'. So what American football games do you suggest I watch then? :)
I wonder what Zayn must've thought when he saw the SOTME video for the first time, like whether he couldn't care at all or that he felt really bad about what he did... :P LOL
Well when you eventually get to hear the new singles from Louis & Zayn, then please let me know what you think of them! ;)
At least Zayn isn't going to be a one-hit wonder now, but I have to agree that without Tay-Tay, I don't know if IDWLF would've performed as well as it has to be honest.

avatar

Piran

1

That's fine Sunshine Gal! :)
Well you should actually be back around the time the BB200 article posts then, given that Billboard don't put it up really late. :D LOL
Anyway, I look forward to chatting to you later. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

hey mate!!! i sent you a fb message...sorry i'm back on a lil' later...ok, so aren't you glad i let you be the 1st comment on the 200 article? oh speaking of laughs ;D i got lm's 'shout' on and every time i hear perrie say the first verse, i can't help cracking my up! the hilarious thing is: zayn has all those tattoos, so he has lots of endurance and can take a lot of pain. but his other 'dept.' doesn't have endurance? :DDD!

alright mate, if i don't see you tonight, i'll chat with you 2mor and i'll see you on the 200 article ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate!!! i sent you a fb message...sorry i'm back on a lil' later...ok, so aren't you glad i let you be the 1st comment on the 200 article? oh speaking of laughs ;D i got lm's 'shout' on and every time i hear perrie say the first verse, i can't help cracking my **** up! the hilarious thing is: zayn has all those tattoos, so he has lots of endurance and can take a lot of pain. but his other 'dept.' doesn't have endurance? :DDD!

alright mate, if i don't see you tonight, i'll chat with you 2mor and i'll see you on the 200 article ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

so, for the liverpool game, was it a draw? no winner or loser? see...that's the most confusing thing. i think the score was 2-2. well, the football game i recommend, you should check out superbowl 2008. the new england patriots were undefeated and up against my guys. the final score was very tight and they had already beat us in the reg. season. and i'll even say, i thought my guys didn't have a chance. everyone was saying it...but try watching the whole game, esp. the 4th quarter ;)

maybe zayn's embarrassed cuz it might be true! :D i'll say this, he's being a good sport about it ;). but it's just so funny, a guy tatt'd up like that...might not have 'endurance' elsewhere ;D. well, so what's the news on lm's new single? is it gonna get the proper promotion over here?

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! I responded to you there a few minutes ago. :)
You 'let' me be the first comment?? LOL! Seriously though, I'm pleased that you're back on. It's really quiet on the BB200 article tonight though. :/
I'm going to be on for two more hours at most, so I'll see you over there. ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, the Liverpool game was a 2-2 draw. You'll be pleased to know that Chelsea are the #1 team in the EPL right now though! :)
Well Little Mix just performed 'Touch' on the X Factor final & it's slowly rising up the UK iTunes chart. However, I hope it gets sent to US radio soon, especially considering it seems to be a popular track from 'Glory Days'.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

that's right i sure did ;). thanks for putting it in your recommendations...i'm just letting the page load up in another window. oh wasn't jesy dating a uk pop star? how did that work out? i like her part in that song too..sounds like she was talking to someone directly :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

so, when there's a draw....nobody won? dang! you guys need to revise your system ;). well the giants and cowboys play tonight...and it'll be a tough game.

well, anything can happen here in the u.s. music scene...if it took whitney houston 1 yr to finally make it on u.s. radio *back in 1985* and no internet back then, you never know what can happen. but i hope this time around, the girls can get a better response.

avatar

Piran

0

You're welcome! That way more people can get there quicker. :)
Jesy was dating the frontman from Rixton (they had a Top 20 hit in the US called 'Me & My Broken Heart'), but they're not together anymore. :/
Imagine if SOTME is a break-up song about two people! :P LOL

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, a draw is where there is a tie, so no winners or losers. This obviously doesn't happen in tournaments or competitions, but it does in league matches. :)
Anyway, it looks like there are more people on the BB200 article right now, so you came back at the right time. Promotion is going to help Little Mix in the US though, so I personally think that they need to do more radio interviews & live performances in your country.

Congratulations on Clean Bandit for making it 5 weeks at number 1! I`m still in love with rockabye and and enjoying it more and more every listen! Happy the weeknd remains strong this week also,, Starboy is still my favorite song right now! Also, brilliant that Mariah is back in the top 10 after so many years. Hopefully the pogues can follow, fairytale of new york is my all time favorite Christmas song! Shame Clsoer is out of the top 10, i still am not sick of that song also.
It`s good to see Human hit the top 10, it`s actually a really good song.
Shame Bruno is out of the top 10, 24K magic never did well on streaming so it was inevitable ii guess. Haliee Steinfeld and Drake are slowly falling which is a shame becausei still love both them songs and feel drake deserved longer in the top 10 with Fake love. Its very underrated IMO. Happy to see Zara Larsson doing well, i think she could hit the top 10 next week if streams pick up for her. Same goes for Jonas Blue who is also doing very well sales wise, hopefully streaming can pick up. yes By your side has a similar vibe to TIWYCF but its still a fantastic song imo.
I`m also predicting Zayn and Taylor to debut VERY high next week.
Finally, very happy to see NEIKED finally hit the top 5 with Sexual..Overall not a bad week at all.

Redbone is fantastic. Best song on the chart this week by far.

that's what i think

Congrats to Clean Bandit on their 5th consecutive week at number 1. You can see some songs rose mostly due to the holidays. Nice to see Zara rise a lot with her song. Happy to see Adele reach the top 50. Water under the Bridge is my favorite song from 25 so that is cool. I am ecstatic to see Gaga re-enter with Million Reasons at 60. Her X-Factor performance was great and it has been top 10 in sales since then.

The Weeknd is still killing it with so many songs on the chart. Good chart overall this week. Next week look for Zayn and Taylor to debut in the top 5 or higher most likely.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Jstar! I hope you've had a nice week. :)
I was also very happy to see 'Water Under The Bridge' jump 61-49 this week, so hopefully it will be in the Top 40 soon. I thought you would be happy about 'Million Reasons' re-entering though & you could probably guess how I've been feeling about 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' today! I agree that this was a good week for the Official Charts today & next week's looks like it could be even better. :D
Also, what are your thoughts on the 2017 Grammy nominations & the 2016 Year-End Hot 100? ;)

J

Jstar

1

My week has been fine. Hope everything went ok for you this week. Well I know you are happy that Taylor released a new song to end 2016. Well her and Zayn lol. It should have a large debut. My guess is definitely in the top 5. Maybe even at 1 with how low the rest of the songs in the top 10 are selling.

I haven't had a chance to check out either yet. I will get around to it though. Anything that you found interesting from either?

avatar

Piran

0

My week was quite good thanks & I'm pleased that yours was too. :)
Yeah, I certainly wasn't expecting to see Taylor & Zayn collaborate, but I fell in love with IDWLF at first listen as expected! I agree that it will get at least a Top 5 debut & maybe even #1 if it can keep up the huge sales. Taylor has never had a #1 over here before, so that's why I would be ecstatic if it did debut at #1 next week! :D
Well regarding the 2017 Grammys, JB & Adele did very well with nominations, as did Beyoncé. I currently predict the following wins in the general categories...
Album Of The Year: Beyoncé - Lemonade (though Adele's '25' has a chance)
Song Of The Year: Adele - Hello
Record Of The Year: Justin Bieber - Love Yourself
I was surprised & disappointed that David Bowie's 'Blackstar' didn't get an AOTY nominations though & that Alessia Cara was not a nominee for Best New Artist.
As for the 2016 Year-End Hot 100, everything went as expected really. It was cool seeing JB have the #1 & #2 with 'Love Yourself' & 'Sorry' respectively. ;)

J

Jstar

1

I won't be surprised if their new single manages to sell about 300k. I still haven't heard the song yet but will try to listen to it later on. She will eventually get a number 1 single in the U.K. Maybe this will be it.

The Grammy nominations seem normal for the most part. I am disappointed that Alessia didn't make the cut though. So JB had the two top songs. Good for him. I know What do you Mean? might have sneaked in there too, I may be wrong though lol.

avatar

Piran

1

I'm looking at the US iTunes updates & they currently has five times the sales of the #2 song on that chart! :O
Well even if IDWLF doesn't go to #1 (I still have a good feeling it will!), then there's a good chance Taylor could top the UK charts with a single from her next album. :)
'What Do You Mean' was at #31 on the 2016 Year-End Hot 100 by the way. Oh Sunshine Gal should be back on here later & has more throwbacks to post. ;)

avatar

Dan Love

1

Rockabye isn't Clean Bandit's best single, but it is catchy

The worst song in the top 10 in my opinion is All I Want For Christmas Is You :(

That song I Would Like by Zara is generic

Water Under The Bridge is quite a good song imo

Surprising that Gaga even re-entered, but still Million Reasons is ok

Weeknd still has loads of songs in the chart, but it would have been cool if they would stay in for ages like Justin Bieber last year

J

Jstar

1

Well considering the number 1 song this week is expected to sell only in the 60k region. I am not surprised by its lead in sales lol. Well I know this must be awesome end of the year gift for you to have a Taylor song heading into 2017. Taylor still has a good number of years left probably to score a number 1 hit in your country.

I know Sunshine Gal is busy preparing to move. She told me she probably won't be here on Sunday last time I spoke to her. JB really was dominating this year. Do you know how many songs Taylor had on the 2015 year end list again?

J

Jstar

0

It isn't Rather Be by any stretch of the imagination. But it is a good song nonetheless. A lot of people seem to like that Mariah song though lol. It is not my favorite Zara song but I like her. We agree about Adele. I wouldn't say it is surprising Gaga re-entered considering her song has been selling good all week. I don't see The Weeknd having the same dominance as JB. But it is still impressive anyway.

So what was your favorite thing about the chart this week?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it's cool to think that we're going from the lowest sales week of the year to potentially the highest! A new song from Taylor is definitely an early Christmas present for me. :) LOL
On the 2015 Year-End Hot 100, these were the songs that Taylor had on it...
#7: Blank Space
#15: Bad Blood (ft Kendrick Lamar)
#18: Shake It Off
#29: Style
#57: Wildest Dreams
So that's five songs from her that made the 2015 Year-End Hot 100! :D
The latter also appeared on the 2016 Year-End Hot 100 as well. In 2015, Drake had six songs on that list if I remember correctly. ;)

J

Jstar

1

Good thing Taylor and Zayn dropped this song this Friday. The number 1 song might have sold in the 50k region haha. That would of been a ugly sight lol. I presumed all 5 of those songs made it. Do you know the highest song Taylor ever scored on the year end list?

Well I will have a lot of new songs this week on my favorite top 10 songs of the week. I will even have 5 songs currently not on the hot 100. But one of my songs is big in other country's.

avatar

Piran

1

We'll ask Simm & Ines on Sunday to see where they think it'll debut (they are right almost all of the time), but right now I'm saying at least Top 5! The highest a Taylor Swift song has appeared in a Year-End is #5, which was done by 'Love Story' in 2009. :)
Is the song that you're talking about that got international success also big in the UK? Also, are you still planning to do a list of #5-peaking songs on the BB200 article this Sunday?

J

Jstar

1

That is cool Love Story was her highest considering that is your favorite song from her. I don't think Kworb updates until Monday though. But they might update it earlier since this song should have big sales.

The song is big in the U.K too. But my list might have 2 songs you haven't heard. That is the list I plan for this week. I got all my picks ready for 6, 7 and 8 too.

avatar

Piran

1

Well if it was available on YouTube & streaming, then IDWLF would be almost guaranteed a Hot 100 #1 debut! I'll keep you updated on it's UK chart performance throughout the week as well. :)
I'm going to sign off for a bit Jstar, but I should be back on a bit later. Chat to you again soon!

J

Jstar

Take care Piran. Maybe see you later on or on the weekend.

Sunshine Gal

hey!!! ditchin' us for the brits? :D i haven't seen you on bb in awhile. :(

J

Jstar

1

I am moving to the U.K. Not really lol. I am at work now.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i was about to say...when did you strike it rich :D. and don't forget about our rematch 2mor night :) you guys are coming on our turf ;)

J

Jstar

1

I'm still at work. But I am by myself though. With all the OT at do at my job I might be able to move there lol.

The Heat so much this year since we lost like 3 of our best players I forget who we are playing lol. I rather we tank this year and get a good draft pick.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

wow...you finally admitted the heat :D well, all i know is that the bulls don't ;D. anyway, are you gonna be on bb this sunday and mond.?

J

Jstar

1

I knew the Heat wouldn't be that good this year from the beginning. I knew the Bulls would be better this year. I am not delusional unlike some certain Gals last year who thought the Bulls could beat the Heat lol.

I will be on the Billboard articles on Sunday and Monday this week.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ohhhh!! so i'm delusional?? who thought that 'uptown funk' would top 'one sweet day'? LOL! believe it or not, next jan. will be 2 yrs since uptown funk was #1 all those wks ;). remember all of us to predict how long it'd stay @ #1? :D

well, what's your thoughts on the tay-tay and zayn possible #1 debut coming up? i'm not agreeing with bb on this one...i think zayn is too new of a solo act to have a history making feat like that.

J

Jstar

1

It would've if it wasn't for See you Again though haha. It was a massive hit in all 3 categories. Sales, radio and streaming.

Well we will have to see what the initial estimates are before we can see if it can debut at number 1. But this number 1 debut though would be more because of Taylor then Zayn. But it is a dual single so both would have to be in the record books with a number 1 debut.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i gotta be honest, i hope it doesn't debut @ #1 :D well, tay-tay won't have a record feat, she'll just tie britney. mariah's the one ahead of everyone....but zayn getting that 2nd #1 debut?? i gotta disagree with bb on this one ;). if it was a solo single or if he notched a calendar run of hits, that's one thing. but just to have a history making feat due to youtube and all that....i dunno. i guess we'll have to wait and see what happens in next couple of wks.

J

Jstar

1

Well it would be the same rule for anyone since he is a lead artist on the song. It just so happens that he has a big advantage having Taylor on the song too. But o don't care either way. I will be happy to see a new song in the top 10.

But the song isn't on YouTube or streaming sites just yet. So this high debut will be mostly from sales and radio.

well, i care LOL! if he gets the 2nd #1 debut, i just don't feel he rightfully earned it...i dunno. we'll see, either way i'll happy for him, i suppose :D but i know there's nothing he can do about it.

Well I see you do care. Maybe you should stop caring so much and throw yourself a party or something since you are moving lol.

Are you talking to Piran also?

J

You just gotta chill and relax lol. I haven't been on the article. Is it pretty peaceful. Usually Taylor attracts some haters.

J

I was just joking lol. So how is that Taylor article? Thanks for letting me know about Piran. I am doing songs that peaked at 5. Do you think you can guess one of my songs?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

you better be joking LOL!! but yeah, being a heat fan, can't tell a good joke :D don't worry, it's all good. well, if you click on my name you should be able to find that article about zayn and tay-tay.

oh ok, songs that peaked @ #5...def. a gaga song :D lemme guess...applause? did that peak @ #5?

J

Jstar

1

I had Applause on my list last week so your guess is incorrect. I will have a song by her though. Maybe I'll swing over there to the article. I just use Wikipedia to find all the peaks of the songs. It is very helpful.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

so, gaga didn't have any songs peak @ #5? did telephone peak @ #5? well, it's just me, chasexox and joseph on that article now. but yeah, it was fun and entertaining reading and commenting back to everyone ;)

She has had 2 songs that peaked at 5. But I will only make include one. That is cool you had a nice conversation with everyone.

I wanted to ask how has the packing gone. Are you almost finished? I know it must be tiring when you are moving things.

Here are some of my observations from the UK charts this week:
- Clean Bandit earn a fifth consecutive week at #1 with 'Rockabye', which now becomes their longest #1 single. I have mixed thoughts on this; I definitely like 'Rockabye', but I prefer 'Rather Be' much more.
- 6 Christmas songs appear in the Top 40 this week, including the biggest climber in the Top 40, 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' by Mariah Carey (29-6). This is the highest the song has peaked since it reached #4 in 2007 & this is also the tenth consecutive year it has re-entered the Top 40.
- The Rolling Stones earn their 12th #1 album with 'Blue & Lonesome' today. The rest of the Top 5 is: 'Together' by Michael Ball & Alfie Boe (#2), 'Glory Days' by Little Mix (#3), 'The Wonder Of You' by Elvis Presley (#4) & '24HRS' by Olly Murs (#5).
- Zayn & Taylor Swift could get next week's highest debut with 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever', which is for the upcoming 'Fifty Shades Darker' movie. At the moment it's hard to determine where it will debut next week, as it has very strong sales right now (#1 on iTunes), but is not available on Spotify or YouTube & that will put it at a streaming disadvantage.
- It was a good week for Rag'n'Bone Man, as he earned his first UK Top 10 single with 'Human' & he is the BRITS Critic's Choice Award winner for 2017.
- From her X Factor performance last weekend, Zara Larsson is the highest new entry this week with 'I Would Like' at #21. The winner of the current X Factor series will be announced on Sunday night, also making them very likely to get at least a Top 10 debut next week.
- Finally, there are just two weeks to go until the 2016 Christmas #1 is announced.

found it mate! who's the male and female artists with the most #1 single debuts over here?

avatar

Techfan

1

Hey Piran! I'm sorry to have missed you on the Official Charts chart. One song I'm glad re-entered the chart is Feed the World. Unfortunately, due to the recurrent rules in the Hot 100 the number of older Christmas songs that can re-enter the chart during the Holiday is very small compared to what I'm seeing in the UK.

Oh, interestingly the charts from this week from BB, would be dated Christmas Eve. I guess in the UK they place more emphasis than in the US for the song ruling for that date.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Techfan! I hope your day is going well. :)
Well I counted 20 Christmas songs in the entire UK Top 100, so a fifth of the whole chart & there's still two weeks to go until the Christmas #1 is announced. I was also very happy to see 'Do They Know It's Christmas' re-enter & nearly make the Top 40.
Yeah, it's a massive honour to be #1 on the Official Charts on Christmas Day over here. Is it not a big deal like that for the Hot 100 then?

avatar

Techfan

1

I hope by the time you read this you have gotten home "Safe and Sound". Anyway, I do like the fact that Christmas songs can chart easily in the Official Charts in spite of radio airplay not being accounted for.

Regarding the #1 on the Hot 100 for Christmas, I don't people generally give it too much thought, compared, for example, to the BB 200 #1 that results from the week preceding Christmas (remember 25 achieved it's third 1 million selling week last year?). It seems in the UK, Boxing Day seems to help people remember certain events more. I mean, the EPL has games that day while all the other major football leagues of other countries outside the UK are in vacation (on another note, what's happening with Man. City?). I saw the article regarding the Christmas Day #1s of past years in the Official Charts website. I doubt Billboard has ever done something similar.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Techfan! I hope your morning is going well. You'll be pleased to know that I am back home now. :)
Well the Christmas songs actually got a boost from streaming online Christmas playlists & you know how much streaming counts towards the Official Charts. Yeah, I thought that the Christmas #1 was only a really big deal in the UK & nowhere else. Regarding the EPL, Man City are fourth in the league right now, but they got beat a lot by Leicester City earlier! Sunshine Gal will be pleased to know that Chelsea beat West Brom, so hopefully Liverpool win later.

avatar

Techfan

1

Hey Piran! I'm doing OK. So that means you'll be able to read your messages more frequently. I'm probably halfway through my Hot 100 Year-End review so I'm probably looking at tomorrow or Tuesday to actually post it.

The rules of the Official Charts for Singles do help the Christmas songs to re-enter the chart. Not having to be in the Top 50 also help.

Man City have had a bad streak in the EPL. I do hope Liverpool wins. Too bad Chelsea already won and Man U are winning. BTW, I don't know if you follow La Liga, but Real Madrid has been really lucky in their unbeaten streak. As you probably know, I'm a Barca fan.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I should hopefully be on a bit more than I was when I was at University now. I'll be home for the next four weeks. :)
So which article are you going to post your Hot 100 Year-End review on then? Please tell me when you do, because I'm very excited to see it! :D
No, I don't watch La Liga. How are Barcelona performing in that league? ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

I'd think so. So what do you think of the J. Cole album numbers. I'm surprised he'll have much than those of Starboy.

I'll post the review on the article that mentions Adele as the #1 Artist and 25 in #1 BB 200, and Love Yourself as #1 Hot 100. I think some people will not agree on my reviews, but it's definitely biased. :)

Barca are 6 points behind Real Madrid. The latter have been very lucky. They played El Clasico Saturday last week (I think you were probably studying or something) and Real Madrid got a stoppage time header by Sergio Ramos. Real got a tie during the week against Borussia Dortmund to finish second in their group. Yesterday, they got another stoppage time header by Sergio Ramos. Barca had a bad stretch for about 3 weeks before El Clasico.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Techfan! Sorry I missed this reply of yours. :P
Anyway, I look forward to seeing your Year-End reviews. Don't worry, most people didn't agree with my re-ordering of the 2016 Year-End Hot 100, but it was still a fun thing to do. :)
Well I don't follow the Spanish league in football that much, but I hope your team do well! ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

Hey Piran! Thanks for replying. I hope you're enjoying your time home.

Yep. Everyone's a critic the saying goes.

Regarding the Liga, it isn't quite as competitive as the EPL. It's almost impossible for a small market team similar to Leicester to win.

avatar

Piran

1

Well nobody was expecting Leicester to win the EPL, especially with a 5000-1 odds! :O
Did you say your review would be ready by tomorrow then? :)
I am enjoying my time at home thanks. It's been good seeing family & friends again after a few weeks away. ;)

avatar

Techfan

Hey Piran! I found it unusual you haven't commented on today's updated chart. It looks likely that I'll be posting my review until tomorrow or Sunday.

In my case, I have already done 2 holiday get togethers and have 2 others pending within the next two days. For the one on Sunday which is for my first aid organization, I have volunteered to do the cooking! :)

See you on the BB 200 article if they post it then.

Piran

Hey Techfan! I hope you've had a good week. :)
Well the reason I was late commenting on the Official Charts article today is because my Disqus notifications have been down for the past 24 hours & my laptop had to restart! Anyway, my thoughts have finally been posted now! :D
I saw your review as well & I agree that it's good to see lots of Christmas songs eligible to chart. AIWFCIY is performing much better in the UK this year than it has done in the past few years, so I'm hoping the same will happen on the Hot 100. Speaking of the BB200, isn't J Cole's new album predicted to debut with nearly 500k copies? ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

Hey Piran! Thanks, I do hope yours went well as well! :)

It's weird that Disqus had issues, but I usually receive my replies via e-mail. Although since you wrote me a couple of days ago I haven't posted anything.

I saw your review and it must not be common to have two debuts in the Top 5 in the Official Singles Charts as it is in the Hot 100, I'd think. I do hope AIWFCIY (currently #11 in iTunes) manages to finally enter the Top 10 in the Hot 100 before it goes into hibernation. Pentatonix is having all sorts of specials in the U.S. (once's with Dolly Parton), which should result in Hallelujah (currently #4 in iTunes) rising in the Top 40 if not Top 20. Mary Did You Know? is #17 in iTunes so it should rise more in the Holiday chart and maybe even enter the Top 5 of it and there's probably a chance of it re-entering the Hot 100 before the season's over.

Regarding J. Cole's album, HDD ended with it with over 511K. Pentatonix appears to have 2 albums in the Top 5. 24K Magic got a nice boost from Bruno's performance in Carpool Karaoke in addition to The Voice's final. Have you seen the former? It is quite funny. As a consequence, Versace on the Floor is #23 in iTunes and Chunky #82. Some of Bruno's older album have returned to the Top 100 of iTunes as well.

avatar

Piran

1

My week has been great thanks! Also, Disqus seems to be working again for now. :)
Well believe it or not, two debuts in the Top 5 in the same week was quite common before the streaming era began, but I don't think it's happened many times (or even once) in 2016.
Well it's great to see Pentatonix climbing both the Hot 100 & BB200 charts this week, but they never made it big in the UK. After the week Bruno has had, I'm hoping that '24k Magic' can go at least Top 3 on the Hot 100 (it has a good lead on US iTunes right now), but I'll definitely have to check out his Carpool Karaoke later or tomorrow. James Corden is hilarious! :D LOL
I hope 'Versace On The Floor' is the second single from Bruno's new album. Anyway, what do you think of the new singles from Zayn & Louis then? ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

We'll see about 24K Magic. If it manages to surpass Closer this week or next, as long as IDWTLF doesn't do to well in streaming now that it's available in Spotify and there's a lyric video in YouTube.

Versace on the Floor is still a promotional single. I just heard those two songs I just heard for the first time and I guess they'll have to grow on me over time, although I didn't dislike them, which is a good start. I did hear When Christmas Around definitely like it on first listen. ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Well 'Closer' & '24k Magic' are great, but you know I'll be wanting IDWLF to go to #1 more.
'Just Hold On' was just decent for me in the first listen, but that grew on me fast. Interestingly, The Voice is much bigger in the US than it is in the UK, but the opposite is true for the X Factor.
It's great to see that you like 'When Christmas Comes Around'. Ed Sheeran's song-writing skills never disappoint! ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

Interesting. Anyway, we'll see a lot of The Voice in the charts. I had no idea that WCCA was Ed's work. ;D The interesting part is that it really doesn't sound like a holiday song, except toward the end.

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, I'm really excited for Ed's next album... hopefully he can finally get a #1 on the Hot 100! :)
I definitely remember seeing last year's winner (I think it was Jordan Smith) almost reach the Top 20 with 'Somebody To Love' once. I don't follow The Voice US that much, but judging by the iTunes chart each Monday, I knew Sundance Head did very well. It turns out that he actually won the show. :D
Anyway, it's getting late over here Techfan, but I'll respond to your other post regarding the Holiday songs tomorrow now. Have a great night! ;)
