Sgt. Pepper Tops The Nation’s Favourite Albums List

Simon Mayo, who presented the run-down on BBC Radio 2 - said:
"It is a very impressive list and no surprise at all that Sgt Pepper is at the top. It revolutionised music and what we expect from an album. A fine choice indeed."

Darren Haynes, The Official UK Charts Company said:
The list of Number One albums is instantly interesting because it highlights the fact that such classics as Dark Side Of The Moon, Bat Out Of Hell or Ziggy Stardust or Hotel California failed to reach the Number One slot".

"Knowing that these would be huge favourites with the voting public, The Official UK Charts Company and BBC Radio 2 also asked the public to vote for a further 10 albums that did not reach Number One in The Official UK Albums Chart. Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon, which peaked at Number Two in 1973, wins the title in the ‘Best of the Rest’ list".

"With over 220,000 votes received from the great British public, this is the most definitive record of the nation’s favourite albums to date", says Haynes.
