Katy Perry and Eminem reign for second week while other benefit from Glastonbury performances

04/07/2010

US artists Katy Perry and Eminem reign for a second week as last week’s number ones, Katy Perry’s California Gurls featuring Snoop Dogg and Eminem’s Recovery, top the  Official Singles and Official Albums Charts respectively, Official Charts Company figures confirm today.

Perry has outsold her nearest rival B.o.B’s Airplanes featuring Hayley Williams, which climbed from last week’s number twelve to this week’s number two, by some 70%.  There are only two other new entries in the Official Singles Chart Top 10: Enrique Iglesias’s I Like It featuring Pitbull straight in at number four and Kelly Rowland’s Commander featuring David Guetta which climbs from last week’s number thirteen to this week’s number nine.

In the Official Albums Chart, Scissor Sisters’ third album Nightwork is the highest new entry at number two.  Nightwork follows debut Scissor Sisters (2004) and second album Ta-Da (2006) both of which peaked at number one.

There is one re-entry in the Official Albums Chart Top 10: David Guetta’s One Love, which peaked at number two last year, climbs from last week’s number thirteen to this week’s number ten.

Outside the Official Albums Chart Top 10, a number of artists have benefitted considerably from appearances at last weekend’s Glastonbury festival:  Glastonbury headliners Gorillaz see their latest album Plastic Beach (which peaked at number two earlier this year) climb from last week’s twenty four to this week’s number twelve, Muse’s album The Resistance (number one in 2009) jumps from sixty two last week to number thirteen and Stevie Wonder’s The Definitive Collection jumps from fifty seven to sixteen.

Finally, in the wake of the recent first anniversary of Michael Jackson’s untimely death, two of his compilation albums climb up the charts, Number Ones from thirty one to twenty one and The Essential from seventy to fifty.
