Leona Lewis is among the most successful acts to emerge from a decade of reality TV pop shows in the UK, scoring a string of hits in the US and elsewhere after winning 2006’s third series of The X-Factor.
Hailing from Hackney, East London, the R&B singer songwriter enjoyed an explosive beginning to her post-X-Factor career. Within a year of winning the competition, she had scored two number ones, with A Moment Like This and Bleeding Love. In turn, her November 2008 release of the Snow Patrol cover Run became the fastest selling download-only release of all time.
She had also released two solo albums, Spirit and Echo, by the end of the Noughties, as well as gathering three Grammy nominations. 2007’s Spirit quickly became the fastest-selling debut album and the biggest seller of 2007 in both the United Kingdom and Ireland, and made Lewis the first British solo artist to top the Billboard 200 with a debut album.
