ELLIE GOULDING

Ellie Goulding is one of the most popular British pop acts of the last decade. Emerging in 2009 with a glitchy, electro-pop feel, her debut album Lights contained hits such as Starry Eyed and the bombastic title track, while in 2010 Ellie's cover of Elton John's Your Song was used to soundtrack that year's John Lewis Christmas advert and became a hit in its own right.

Ellie's 2012 second album Halcyon moved in a more electronic direction, while 2015's blockbuster Delirium was the sound of her aiming for pop's A-List, aided by the chart-topping Love Me Like You Do and hypnotic On My Mind, both produced by Max Martin.

2020's chart-topping Brightest Blue was a fascinating experiment to mould Ellie's two musical identities - folk-leaning singer-songwriter and ethereal pop star - together, while 2023's Higher Than Heaven was an unabashed dance record, while that year's Miracle with Calvin Harris netted Ellie her fourth UK Number 1 single, and a BRIT Award.

Overall, Ellie Goulding has amassed four UK Number 1 singles and albums on the Official Charts; she is not only one of the UK's most successful female pop stars (she has the third-most Number 1 singles ever for a female solo act, shared equally with Dua Lipa, Rita Ora and Geri Halliwell) and one of its most enduring.

Bit of a shaky start - but glad it's clocked so many weeks on the chart and still in the Top 40 in 2015!
