MURA MASA

Mura Masa - real name Alex Crossan - was born on April 5, 1996 and is a Guernsey-born electronic music producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. After playing guitar, bass, drums and singing in local punk, hardcore, deathcore and gospel bands, he started self-producing at the age of 15, teaching himself via YouTube tutorials and uploading a mix-tape called Soundtrack to a Death in 2014. Mura Masa started to gain attention when BBC Radio 1 DJs started playing his song Lotus Eater. He released his self-titled debut album in July 2017 featuring a host of guests such as Damon Albarn, Christine and the Queens and Charli XCX, and went on to be nominated for two Grammys. Mura Masa also co-wrote Stormzy’s First Things First song, which opened the rapper’s UK Number 1 album Gang Signs and Prayer. He also worked with Nile Rodgers on Chic’s comeback album It’s About Time, and won the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in 2019 for his rework of Haim’s Walking Away.
